    I like how you drop the bridges to find the darker and light tones. Know lets get brave and start dropping the violins on the ground to find out what tone they have :)

      The good luthiers do tap on the top and back plates to determine the outcome of the violin prior to assembling.

    Beginner here: I need the two middle notes to have some space (one higher and one alot lower) so it will be easier to play. I keep on hitting both notes at once. My teacher said that's only for the advanced. I need it now. I stopped playing after 2 months - 4 years ago but thinking about starting again. Need better posture- that's why I stopped.

      😢 that is my current problem. I sound like cutting metal instead of making music.

    I am curious what a "pimp my fiddle" might look/sound like, eg: what one could expect in sound and playability from an OB1 with a high end bridge, strings, and tailpiece

      Hi James! A lot of people experiment with the fittings nowadays, and it's always worth a shot if you are handy. It could get expensive if you hire a luthier. It's amazing how much difference in sound you can get by just changing the bridge or strings.

    My violin bridge is bent towards the fingerboard and it's warped from the top. I had the violin restored about 3 years back and everything was well done, except for the bridge

    • @Fiddlershop
      @Fiddlershop  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ah, sorry to hear. But you might be able to get it back straight still with some correction. Even the best bridges will be pulled and twisted out of shape over time, so try to straighten them out when you see them starting to warp. All the best!

      I had a bridge like that once. I just soaked it in hot water and then placed it between two pieces of wood and clamped it. It straighten out fine.

    How do you tell the difference between an apprentice luthier and a master? Look for bloody fingers and bandaids.

      I think they are avoiding leaving greasy fingerprints on the bridges, not to sweat over the absorbent wood or somth

    Michael, because steel strings are much higher tension than synthetic strings aren't the string heights lower than the standard 3.5 mm for e and 5.5 mm for g string. I'm just into irish, scottish, and country folk fiddling and I have been using 3.0mm & 4.5mm for a long time.
    I mention this because I am buying a new Fiddlerman violin in a couple of weeks. Either the Artist or the Master. Any suggestions? Keith Campbell , a long time customer.

    • @Fiddlershop
      @Fiddlershop  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Keith! We don't change string heights based on string type, unless requested. I'm personally not a big fan of steel core strings, because I like the lower tension of synthetic core strings (along with other reasons). But we're happy to set up your violin with lower string height, or even flatter bridge if you'd like either of those things. Just leave a note in the order, or give us a call. All the best! -Gibbles

    Is it true some luthiers use lipstick to find out if their bridge feet is exactly aligned to fit the top plate and then sand out the coloured part to get a perfect fit?

    I brought kremona violin pickup but My violin bridge eye slot is too small so can I gently widen the eye slot using a fine sandpaper? Is there any issue in widening the slot does it affect the sound of violin?

    • @Fiddlershop
      @Fiddlershop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's possible that you could have a "buzzy" or metallic sound from a string groove being too narrow. This isn't as common as when that's the case at the nut. Luthiers usually use a fine file to adjust the groove, so I'm not sure sandpaper would be the best choice. I suppose if we step back for a second, I'd ask, before making changes to the bridge, are you sure the problem you are having is in the string groove's fault? There are lots of common reasons why instruments buzz, I'd recommend exhausting other options first.

      I also recently got the Kremona. Love how it sounds! I have had a buzzing that is really annoying before the pickup but maybe more now? I have tried to find the source of this buzz for a year now. Only got the pickup a few months ago. Any ideas? Thank you!

    I got a fiddelman Violin deluxe last year but the bridge is curling, bending strangely...Is that due to a low quality bridge material... How can I fix it?

    • @Fiddlershop
      @Fiddlershop  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! I'm so sorry to hear this. The Fiddlerman Concert Deluxe violin comes with one of the best bridges available, the professional level Despiau Three Tree. The bridge is most probably warping due to it leaning the wrong way. Over time, with regular wear and tear, the bridge will start to lean over toward the fingerboard. A bridge should regularly be adjusted, to prevent warping. If the bridge has warped too much, it will unfortunately not be able to be saved. My suggestion is that you send us a picture of your bridge to support@fiddlershop.com so we can take a look at it. Here is a link to a video, that shows you how to adjust a leaning bridge: th-cam.com/video/80WMoAgwJTs/w-d-xo.html

      It's called "Steps" by Anno Domini Beats, but I also added a few layers of violin to it. th-cam.com/video/5NZAQCaZCyk/w-d-xo.html.
