I was at school in Boston for the 2003/2004 seasons, living about a half mile from Fenway. As a lifelong Sox fan, there was no better place to be. You would hear a roar come from Fenway, know something crazy had happened then see it on tv after the broadcast delay. I vividly remember dancing on top of overturned cars on Lansdowne after we took out Oakland in the 03 ALDS. Everything else aside, it’s difficult to fully express the insanity of the 04 ALCS to anybody who wasn’t living there and sooo heavily invested in it. I was at Berklee studying music production so *at least* during the day I was able to dwell amongst the music nerds and get a mental break from the insanity. But every night after game 3 was a long, protracted anxiety attack. Extra innings, elimination at every turn, walk-offs, bloody socks, controversy, record setting victory. Forget the 04 World Series…that was just the final nail in the coffin. It’s all about the 2004 ALCS. To this day, that remains the single greatest baseball series I’ve seen. It *might* be the greatest 7 game series ever played…
"As a lifelong Sox fan, there was no better place to be." This sentence is ungrammatical. If you start with "As a lifelong Sox fan," then you should continue with the person who was the lifelong Sox fan. For example, "As a lifelong Sox fan, I wouldn't want to be anywhere else."
At 22:11 look at Mariano Rivera’s left arm. It has some shiny stuff on it right on his forearm but nowhere else on either arms lol. Idk spider tack was being used back then lol

My brother was born in 2004, just mere months before the World Series. I was born in 2007, mere weeks before the World Series that year. My mother is a die-hard Red Sox fan since her dad used to work for the T on the green line and she would sometimes come down and visit him at work and they would go to Fenway to see the Red Sox play. She watched season after heartbreaking season of the Red Sox failure, and then when she married my dad and had me and my brother, the Red Sox finally got it done. She’s always joked that my brother and I were the Sox’s good luck charms.

I was at the game behind home plate within earshot of A-Rod.. the night before A-Rod did a dirty slide into second so we were yelling at the top of our lungs at him calling him a dirty player .. I think we got under his skin because he was hit by an off speed pitch.. the rest is history !
In actuality it was about 2 abd a half weeks later when the Sox really turned it on in early to mid August. After they traded a disgruntled Nomar, and got some pieces that would later play a huge part in October. The Sox got to within a half game of the Yanks, after a incredible ( another) comeback against Mariano Friday night. Thanks in part to Kenny Lofton going half heartedly after a fly ball. They had good success against Mariano ,the greatest closer ever that year. But a rumored hungover Derek Lowe was blasted the next day and list a heartbreaker that Sunday. The Sox would go on to take 2 out of three the next week at the stadium, but finished a very respectable 2 games behind. That year NESN did a post season rally and really got the fans going. The Angels were just the warm up act. Big Papi was born, and there was that feeling we never felt before. Even down 3 - 0 we believed. Something was different this year. Magical, mystic. Hard to believe it's been almost 20 yrs. What a time to be a Sox, Patriot fan. A Boston Fan as well. It's something missing badly today.
The Yankees signed Babe Ruth, Wade Boggs, Roger Clemens three of the greatest Red Sox ever.. plus Johnny Damon and Jacoby Ellsbury. If the Red Sox sign Judge, the Yankees would see would see how it feels.
Chemistry is the most important part of any team. I truly hope that the 2024 management team for the Sox understands this. If the players are happy with the team they are a part of, they will excel.
One of the greatest years as a Red Sox fan of my life! 2004 definitely made up for the massive disappointment of the 1986 year when I was a little kid. We own the Stankees now.
The 2004 Red Sox were the comeback kids of that year because after being down 3-0 to the Yankees and then come back to win all four games was out of this world and I was so happy for Boston because I live in Massachusetts. And on a side note I have a you tube channel type in Russell Mills May 22, 2017
when i was growing up this was the sports rivalry i hated the red sox with a passion since i was a yankees fans this is the last great baseball rivalry nothing will ever match how much hatred there was between both sides at its peak
It's shame this didn't mention the American League Championship Series (ALCS) of 2004, which was Yankees vs. Red Sox. For the first time in the entire history of professional baseball, a team (the Red Sox) won a seven game series after losing the first three games. Game 3 was especially demoralizing for the Sox, losing 19-8 in their first home game of the series to go down 3 games to none in the best-of-seven. The Sox squeezed out extra inning wins at home in games 4 (with a blown save from Mariano Rivera tying the game in the 9th inning) and 5, then miraculously took the next two in Yankee Stadium. Game 6 of the series became known as the "bloody sock" game; Sox pitcher Curt Schilling had some temporary sutures to hold a tendon in place within his injured ankle to allow him to pitch.
Mueller's comments were very funny. As a Yankees fan this rivalry and these series were so much fun, nothing better than beginning of September and yanks in first and Sox in 2nd, were more fun when Yanks won but... What was INCREDIBLY annoying was all of Boston (Sox and people) try to claim NOmah was anywhere near Jeter! C'mon man NO NO NO NO
For Joe Buck to say it’s the most exciting part of his career says it all. He has called NFC championships and Super Bowls, so for any baseball to rival that means it’s intense...
15:33 What Varitek said is very misleading (if not completely untrue). Alex Rodriguez was clearly walking towards first base (not towards Bronson Arroyo). Rodriguez was definitely yelling "throw that sh-t over the f-cking plate" to Arroyo, but he was physically moving towards first base (not towards Arroyo). For Varitek to say Rodriguez was "going after Bronson" is very misleading (to say the least).
I remember I Iwas fishing on the beach in Rhode Island with my Yankeehater hat on when I ran into a Yankees fan, who said that I was a dying breed, and should just give up. I told him we will see in October. Wish I could have run into him again after the 3-0 choke.
In a game in the mid- late 70s. Sox hit a fly to deep center and Mickey Rivers leaped to make a catch and crumbled yo the ground in a heap... When they put t ,you could see the ball hit the wall ,then Rivers' face . Whoever did the replay then played the replay to show ball to face , and ran it back and forth in fat motion ...ball- face ,ball -face . Rivers was hated in Boston ,and as he lay there on yhe track ....I never heard 30,000 people laugh so hard at once in my life . $ 2 bleacher seats back then ...every game was a drunken ,brawling bloodbath every night .
Jason Varitek will forever be a cult hero for that shove to A Rod 😂😂😂😂

Thats why I believe in the Red Sox no matter who they have on there team. Every year i will support them
I’m a Red Sox fan and my friend is a Yankees fan and we literally argue all the time about baseball😂
F##k both y'all teams😂, GO CUBS! I actually grew up a Yankees fan when i lived in CT, BUT I've been a CUBS fan for 21 glorious years. That era (2003 and 2004) of yanks vs sox was the most exciting baseball I've ever seen, except of course for 2016.
July 24th 2004 was the turning point for the redsox and their history. 4 championships in 15 years and counting!! Lets go redsox!! Love ya❤

I love this game and since then, I became a Red Sox fan. Go Red Sox!

The game was perfect.

Unbelievable that 2004 season !!! I loved it cant explain the feeling
This was the weekend my son went to Marine boot camp on Sunday. This was when I started watching more and more, and more baseball. The Boston Red Sox had a lifelong fan.
To this day if I ever saw Tek or anyone from that team, I'd buy them a beer.
I never realized how toxic and salty the Yankee fans were until I read these comments.
They're just salty they haven't won anything since 2009
@@matthewdowling6549 very true we are on top again in the rivalry
@Dragon77 Ask Isiah Kiner-Falefa & Aaron Judge how salty & toxic Yankees fans are. They berate their own players! 👎💩
Go Sox. Keep this great content coming!!!

My book best season comeback ever, peak of baseball

I am 62 soon to be 63, I hate the Yankees, it is who I am. My Family showed all the games we lost against them, cannot tell you all the games I saw, not only the Yankees, Bob Gibson, St. Lous Cardinals and SO MUCH MORE. In 1967 I became a bonafide Red Sox Fan and have never looked back, NO MATTER WHAT. One more thing, I hate the Habs too, lol
Just about identical to my sox story. First time I saw "yaz" on our Saturday game of the week the only televised game in 67 I became a Red sox fan. My older brother has been a yankee fan before that so a very interesting life in sports. I don't hold anything against the habs. Go aves.
Red Sox Nation 💯
No. The turning point was when Roberts stole second base in the ALCS game 4 that year. Period.
Indeed
Could there be a more perfect match of beatches other than aroid an jlo. Thank god almight she is too old to breed.
Turning point to what? its more of a fan-whining thing...they spent plenty of money and blamed it on a curse? Honestly i think the Tampa New York rivalry is more heated...theres more hate there involved. it wasnt a curse, you finally won it. now go crawl back into your 3rd place hole.

This is why varitek was the captain he stood up for his teammate and was not gonna let anything happen to him
I was 13 in 2004 was amazing I was so happy my grandma unfortunately died after the Sox won it and she missed 2007 2013 and 2018 she loved the Red Sox so much miss her so much ❤❤🙏🙏
I was at school in Boston for the 2003/2004 seasons, living about a half mile from Fenway.
Back then Yankees Red Sox was must see television! The rivalry is dead now, but the stories live on.
Do you believe In miracles. I've been a Red Sox fan since 2004. 17 years strong. Boston Strong.
At 22:11 look at Mariano Rivera’s left arm. It has some shiny stuff on it right on his forearm but nowhere else on either arms lol. Idk spider tack was being used back then lol
Trading Nomar a few days later was also part of the turning point. Cabrera brought something to that team that was needed.
JV lives to scrap for his teammates in these moments. He knew he was putting the Red Sox Nation on his shoulders. He was just looking for a spark...He found it in that moment, and passed it on to his whole F*ckin team. What a F*ckin Legend!
I had family deaths before the World Series. They were for those family members!
Reds fan here I have a real appreciation for the Yankees Red Sox rivalry Cub fans & Cardinals fans believe their rivalry is right there with Yankees Red Sox they aren’t even close.
This game had it all chaos, suspense and a wild ending. Plus Varitek punched Alex rodriguez in the face it was awesome.
Yeah, like when Nettles beat the shit out of Bill Lee, that was kind of cool as well, eh? Those were the real fighting days of the rivalry.
Lest we forget Fisk vs. Munson.
every baseball announcer has ever started commentary on a fight with "here we go"
The Sox had to beat the Yankees to reverse the curse….. 04’
Who’s here after The Sawx sent the skankees packing in the wild card?!? 🙋🏻♂️

Ed K here.. I was at the game behind home plate within earshot of A-Rod.. the night before A-Rod did a dirty slide into second so we were yelling at the top of our lungs at him calling him a dirty player .. I think we got under his skin because he was hit by an off speed pitch.. the rest is history !
Boston Red Sox won the world series in 1918 and they did again 100 years later in 2018
In actuality it was about 2 abd a half weeks later when the Sox really turned it on in early to mid August.
The Sox are the best
One of the greatest years as a Red Sox fan of my life! 2004 definitely made up for the massive disappointment of the 1986 year when I was a little kid. We own the Stankees now.
teddy smith yeah troll and how many games did your team win? Better yet how many championships have you won in the last decade or ever?
@Jim Johnson Yeah, and how many times have the Angels made the Playoffs with Trout? Fuck off.
The 2004 Red Sox were the comeback kids of that year because after being down 3-0 to the Yankees and then come back to win all four games was out of this world and I was so happy for Boston because I live in Massachusetts. And on a side note I have a you tube channel type in Russell Mills May 22, 2017

Giants v Dodgers is the best rivalry in baseball. It spans the country and the teams have been pretty evenly matched for over a century.
You gotta get in line behind Yanks v Red Sox and Cubs v Cardinals. Can't those Missourian muppets lol

when i was growing up this was the sports rivalry i hated the red sox with a passion since i was a yankees fans this is the last great baseball rivalry nothing will ever match how much hatred there was between both sides at its peak

We're still in it! ALCS game 5 tonight!!!
Next to the Giants/Dodgers rivalry, going back to the days when both teams were based in New York.
Don't mess with Tek.
It was not anymore.
Respect for Kevin Millar, can’t hate the guy for believing. He was spot on!
Yeah exactly . Alex the. Said “ f you f you . The guy was totally not telling the truth
@@mona31ize You're being sarcastic. But let me ask you: Before Varitek got involved, was A-Rod physically moving towards Arroyo, or first base?
'03-'04 Sox-Yanks was as good as it gets.
