    Golden rule: If it is dry, freeze dried, frozen, vacuum sealed, pickled in salt or vinegar or preserved in alcool, go for it! Otherwise: no go. Also, expired seafood and rye bread (or rye in general) can kill you.

      Very true, even the CDC says a lot of foods in those states are perfectly fine past expiration dates unless you can visibly see or smell they're danger (mold and stuff). They are literally made with preservatives in mind, so just go for it! No need to waste it

I loved how the ** SPOILER ALERT** box that fell off the table at the beginning happened to be the box with the MOST EXPIRED cabbage I have ever seen, just to reiterate it's expired status... So glad only a small amount was consumed of that one, or this could of been the last time this bacon danced.... :-)

    From what I was told the "best before" or "expiration date" of a food item is just for the stores to know when to take the items off the shelves. It's just the "shelf life date" and normally doesn't affect the food itself. Still, be a little bit careful with "expired" items cuz you never know what could end up making you sick. Keep up the incredible vids and stay happy and healthy!

    • @marianocolsin8968
      @marianocolsin8968 2 ปีที่แล้ว +49

      Some items expiration dates are a lot more estrict than others, so keep in mind that two or three days of fridge is not the same for chicken than for eggs

    • @putrijoyceirawati2638
      @putrijoyceirawati2638 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      From what I've learned is that expiration dates are for freshly made items, think breads, instant porridge(in the video), milk etc. And best before is mostly for dried and canned items, best before indicating that a food item tastes best at a certain time frame and is still consumable after some time but may not taste as good. I got sent boxes of dry instant potato flakes during the pandemic in 2020. The best before is 2021 but I can still use them no problem no change in color or consistency as long as the bags aren't tampered with.

    • @CookingWithCows
      @CookingWithCows 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Canned goods can be good for 2-5 years past date, dry goods can be good for up to 10 years past date, there's no iron stomach involved, the only thing a date on a package means is best by, meaning that's when the manufacturers will still stand by quality,not when it goes bad, the only food that have an actual expiration date are fresh foods, and even those have wiggle room, like milk that goes bad before the date it says, or after, sealed yogurt can be good a month after the date because it's already aged

    The usual culprits of expiration are any seafood or dairy base. The key for every other instant food is to not let them get wet, but that is a big issue in tropical climates where humidity can kind of do this.

    I've worked at a store for years now and can tell you that a decent amount of these aren't actually expired. Unless it says "E" or "expiration" The date listed is usually the 'best by date'. The items without that will still be fine a good 6-8 months after the date listed.

      I had a container of cottage cheese(us)that had been hidden in back of the fridge.
      It was 4 months out of date.
      We were going to toss it but since it was still sealed we decided to open it and see what it looked like.
      It looked fine and smelled fine then I got brave and tasted it. It was absolutely fine. I decided that we would just eat it.
      We were fine. I think it had a richer taste but I buy the highest fat content cottage cheese. My daughter tasted it and thought it was fine too.

    Here are my conclusions:
    1. The expired food is much worse on taste if it was on styrofoam or a cup and the food is directly touched its package (examples: Japan and Korean noodles in this video used styrofoam like and a normal cup noodle and the noodle's taste is gone bad because it touched the package directly); UNLESS it was expired no longer than 3 months (the 1st noodle still fine)
    2. Food that are packaged again on a separate package such as aluminum like packs or plastics like packs are tend to be fine (the 2nd noodles, and most of the food in this video such as milk tea, chocolate porridge, pancake mix)
    3. Never ate any expired dehydrated food or pre-cooked food after it's expired because it must gone bad (the clam porridge, and the lamb curry is seems okay but the rice is not so good looking, also all the dehydrated vegetables after expiration date seems to lose their nutrition and went completely dry, although it seems still edible)

    Dried instant packaged food will not be off for a long time, just watch out if it contains dairy powder etc, but it will still last years if store correctly. Not sure why you would think instant noodles would taste bad after only a year or two.

    I can definitely say, some dried and flash dried versions are ok. Almost like the miso, but you have to use it within two weeks after the expiry. Since there only good for travel purposes or hiking. As for other stuff, forget it. But yeah, I can see why it doesn’t taste good with certain noodles that you tried.

    I rarely throw away expired food UNLESS it is canned meat(botulism is deadly) or dairy things. Not because I am poor. It's just that my friend who works in a food company told me that those dates listed on the product are not actually expiration dates, it's more like " Best to use before this date". So yea, I don't throw them away, I just eat them, and so far I've never gotten sick from it, and they taste the same, not stale as well.

    I ate an expired boxed soup years ago. I didn't check the date, just made it. It was a chicken type soup. I ate half. I had a cold so really couldn't taste it. About an hr later. I became deathly sick. I took the box out of the garbage can and it was 6 months expired. I was never so sick in my life. It took a month to get back to myself.

    Usually expiration dates are suggested dates. Dry noodles like any pasta will last until the next ice age. When you have to watch dates is in fresh food such as meat and even then if you freeze it you can get an extra 6 months out of it (I always add additional wrap on meats and chicken products and keep in the deep freeze NOT the freezer above you ice box) Exasperation dates normally mean that that the seller will guarantee the product to be at its best quality. Note that the date stamp DOES NOT mean that on that date the product is no good at all.
    Dairy products usually will last 7 days after the expiration date, ultra pasteurized dairy products will last up to the date printed and usually about 10 to 14 days later but always check...unless you like curdled milk chunks

    11:40 How spicy we're talking about? Ghost Pepper noodles are the spiciest by far; I had to stop for a good moment until I finally finished it. Compare to it, Korean spicy noodles are more tolerable, though still need something to combat that spiciness.
    Most instant foods were freeze-dried(so they were called) to last for quite a long time, even past the expiration date. If there are things we did learn from wars and apocalypses, stocking up on them is the best way. Semi-liquid should be acceptable, but be careful if they begin to grow molds, smells bad, or both. And especially the kinds that were packed in the can; metal cans, to be precise. In fact, rusts is a big turn-off(you're free to check the contents, however).
    Speaking of dinner danger, though.... Those nearly expired items at the supermarket might be a good run, too. Just be careful if you happen to stumble upon milks; some actually went bad before their expiry date. Blegh! But really, just my luck that I got a bad one before, but the others should be fine. But again, a little taste test first before picking it up.

    As always, some foods are perfectly edible beyond the stated date on the packaging, especially when it is stated as "Best Before". Those foods are usually canned foods, dried, powdered and freeze dried. Frozen Foods can be also eaten safely even while expired.
