    Just got one. Awesome piece of kit. I’m a Dewalt nut and have a lot of Dewalt tools, and I mean a lot. This is my favourite of the lot. Smacks of quality. Its small size and oodles of power make it a very versatile and useful tool. My angle grinders will be left on the shelf more often than not from now on.

    I bought one a couple of weeks ago. I was surprised at how well this works, even thought I read several reviews saying that it worked well. It’s quieter than I expected. I would have to say that the only thing I would prefer is having a shoe for metal cutting so that I could cut against a straight edge when cutting metal. But I’ve used it to cut several feet of 0.050” stainless and using the multi blade it cut like butter. I used the blade in reverse for that. It does leave a fair size burr on the bottom, but my grinders can easily remove it. I usually mill the edges anyway.
    It’s got plenty of power. The high speed, with a 3” blade, which it maintains pretty well during the cut, really gives fast cutting. Just remember guys, you MUST remove the plastic guard when cutting metal. The Torque Test Channel shows it developing two thirds of a horse power with the 5 amp flat stack battery, or the regular 6 amp. That’s a lot more than the Milwaukee.

    Just picked one up today for my home shop. Great little tool ! I’m heavily into cordless. Both Dewalt and Milwaukee. I’ll tell you this…I work in a welding shop and most of our tools are corded and air. I spend ten hours a day jerking around with cords and air hoses. There are situations that require special corded tools. But I’m sold on the thecordlees platform 👍

    Right. I think this tool fits in the same category for all of us. It's one that'd be nice to have, but is not a necessity. We all have grinders. We all scoff when we first see this, because we can make all of these cuts with our grinders (and some even with our multi tools). But from that first scoff...a seed is planted. Then we start thinking of all the precision cuts that this would make easier. The longer we wait, the more we torture ourselves.
    haha, which is why we all buy it, sooner or later. I held out for a year, but finally ordered mine today.

    I picked this up too a couple months ago, its nice and works well. It does really drain the battery quick though if your cutting something thick and its loud enough to be annoying.

    • @TonyTheTechnician
      @TonyTheTechnician  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha ya I've used mine a few times and it's been super handy. I guess I didn't pay much attention to the battery I was just doing the rest of my exhaust and then I used it to cut the parking brake flex sheathing and a few other things so nothing to big or thick. But it's worked well

    Good video mate, I’ve got all Milwaukee 12 V and 18 V
    I bought this 20 V DeWalt cut-off tool the other week
    And rather than having to get their battery platform. I went onto flea Bay and bought an adapter for 20 bucks
    so I run the 18 V Milwaukee battery to the 20 V DeWalt tool via an adapter its not a bad set up.
    At least Im guessing it would be a better setup than the 12 V Milwaukee cut-off tool
    All the best from Melbourne Australia

    I waited till the Christmas sale and got it free after purchasing 2 batteries for 199. Very nice. I've seen someone modify the Milwaukee version by putting a wood blade on it converting it to a mini circular saw. Wonder if it's possible with this

      Don’t put a toothed blade on these things. First of all, it’s VERY rare that a toothed blade is rated for 20,000 rpm. Usually they are for 11,000 or lower. Very dangerous. They can easily throw teeth at those high speeds. DeWalt not only states to not use them, but says that they can jam in the cut and give a lot of kickback. Believe it!

    • @harrigro
      @harrigro 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    What do you do if the blade is loose and will not come off?
    When I try to loosen or tighten it just spins.

    • @TonyTheTechnician
      @TonyTheTechnician  ปีที่แล้ว

      You have to press and hold the button on the side near the blade guard which will lock it so you can tighten or loosen it. Make sure you don't have a battery in the tool either. You don't want it to start while changing the blade.

    You should purchase the Milwaukee 12 V band file when it comes out from the Depot. Although I would wait till Father’s Day when it should drop down from $250 to $230, m my and then I would go to the big Orange Depot. Or you could just go to your local mechanic shop and pay around $240.

    I've had the Milwaukee M12 3" cutoff saw and honestly it's a disappointment. It's noticeably underpowered. I was working with some aluminum sheet earlier this week and it was painfully slow. Blade changes also are more cumbersome than the Dewalt. I have a good supply of Dewalt 20v batteries and I think I'm going to replace the M12 saw. The only lick on the DCS438 is the propriety Dewalt connection on the vac/extractor port. Sometimes, as you say, being first to market comes at a price.
