  • This is a mini-series of videos about the mokume gane technique in polymer clay.
    In this first part I am presenting to you a short history of the technique and how to pick your colors in a very simple way to create the most successful combinations.
    Here are some links to the websites of some of the artists I am mentioning in the video

    This video is packed full of information. I think I've exceeded my quota of learning new things for the day!!! My brain is full! lol Just about everything (except that it was a Japanese metalworking technique) was brand new info. to me. I really appreciate that you gave us the history and timeline of the application of the technique to clay. Looking forward to part II.

      Thank you! I will try to do at least the first part of part 2 - waiting on my clay order that might be delayed, I explained in my blog. But I'll do at least the first part.

    I love the background information in your tutorials as well as the drawings and pictures you use for explanation. I have zero art background and I don’t have any understanding of colors. I have multiple color wheels and can look at them all day long, but it was your photo with the definition of hue, tint, tone and shade that started to sink in. It was simple-black background with white lettering with the wording short and to the point. I kept a photo of that and referred back to it when you showed your color version of hue, tint, tone and shade. By the time you got to the clay and started mixing colors, I actually understood what was happening! Thank you!

      Wonderfu;! I am really glad! I try to cater to all levels of expertise in my channel, but I have to say that I do a little bit more for the beginner-intermediate level. I am so glad that it helped you!

      Day, I also am stumped by the "color wheel" and what colors work with what colors...your explanation was super and helped me greatly. Picking colors is my hang up when I want to do a project. With limited $ I fear wasting clay and ultimately get nothing done. You have helped me be braver which is a BIG DEAL. Thank you!

      Thank you! Still working on a more detailed tutorial on color theory but there's a lot of image editing and possible animation. As soon as the drs fix me and I can stay awake longer in a day, I will be able to finish it faster lol

    Hi, I watched this yesterday and loved it. I want to see it again, but the video won't load. Any suggestions?

      It's an issue with whatever device you are watching these videos on. If it's a laptop, be aware that there were recently a Windows software update as well as the following browser updates. And I know there's been phone OS updates as well. The video runs just fine on all my devices. Do you see any error message?

    Hi everyone and Day,
    where did you get the long, firm tissue blade?
    Babs

    • @KalyanaDesignTutorials
      @KalyanaDesignTutorials  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The long firm one is the Amaco that can be found at Hobby Lobby. It's much more rigid than the other Amacos that can be bought online. But it's not good at all for shaving mokume gane. I'd suggest for that the Jili blade that Polyclayplay brought in at my recommendation, that is the best blade to use for this. Now you can even get it cheaper in a kit with a 4" blade that is perfect for slicing canes polyclayplay.com/8-flexible-clay-blade-in-storage-case-plus-bonus-blade/?aff=2

    *laughing at the person who put a thumbs down. Are you upset that you can't say anymore that you're the one who invented this stuff?
