I knew to polymer clay and just heard about this technique yesterday so I decided to Google Lisa and found this video and much to my surprise I actually have that stamp she is using in the demonstration ha ha I’ve had it for probably 15 years but don’t remember where I got it.
I have never seen or heard of this technique, thank you for sharing this with us, as someone who is new to clay work I am hooked, no bad for someone who is 80 plus, once again thank you.
I love the Sutton slice and I shave mine the same way. I always run my clay through my machine and thin it out and lay it over it and then press in. That works for me and it's not a ton of clay to take off. Thank you for the tutorial! Love this channel!
This technique is so awesome. I have never seen this done before. I have a small box I would like to cover and give to my daughter for Christmas. This would be perfect to do.
Thanks for such a thorough and inspiring tutorial, Lisa. I absolutely love your teaching style...extremely professional, friendly and encouraging. The Sutton Slice technique produces gorgeous veneers! I was thinking that another way to add color is to use a solid color topped with a Skinner Blend...although I'm sure that's been tried!
Another great video from Lisa. This technique has certainly changed since the first time I did it. I've made several things with the Sutton Slice but some of the newer moves she did in the vid I will have to try. Thanks again for a clear, concise instruction.
The placement of the blade and swinging it rather than just bowing it a bit and pulling the whole blade. Also, the way she releases it so it can be adjusted if some of the clay sticks. Before, I tended to try to hurry the process by putting down bigger pieces of clay to put into the crevices but now I will discipline myself to use smaller bits. :-)
There are lots of cool tools for polymer clay, but most of my work is done with a Pasta/Clay Machine (the biggest investment), a clay blade, hobby knife and a smooth ceramic work tile. That with a started clay kit are all under $100.00 and you can make a lot with just these items. Clay costs pennies per project, but of course we "Polyholics" have to have other tools like texture stamps, cutters, etc. You can add these gradually to your collection, but it's such an affordable and economical medium to work in!
Absolutely beautiful work. I didn't quite catch the tutorial site you suggested to learn how to do the gradient. Will you please let me know the name again?
Hi Lisa - great teaching videos! Both my wife and I love to work with polymer clay as well as paper clay, natural clay and cold porcelain clay. I love this technique you're showing! Annika - I'm Robert's wife. I have an off-topic question for you that I hope you won't mind answering: The scarf behind you (Pashmina?) is gorgeous, and I'm hoping you sell them, or wouldn't mind telling me where you bought it - or even point me to a video where you dye it and demonstrate the technique. Thanks in advance! Anyway~ thank you from the both of us for your informative tutorials. Robert & Annika
So glad you two are enjoying Lisa's videos! Actually that scarf came from our local Goodwill so we don't know where it originally was donated from. Sorry about that!
Thank you for this video. I tried this technique for the first time this week using these Lisa Pavelka molds. I made sure to add clay softener to my clay, so it was very soft and sticky. However, the mold is leaching the clay, so by the time I'm ready to roll it onto the base sheet (especially if I don't have time to do it all in one sitting), the clay is dry and cracked. Have you heard of this before? Is there anything I can do to the molds to keep them from leaching the clay?
Hi Almond and thank you for your patience. Our in-house jewelry designer, Rose, is stumped. She has used Lisa's molds many, many times and have never had this happen. What type of clay are you using: polymer or air-dry?
@@FireMountainGems Thank you for replying. I'm using Premo polymer clay. It is old, but I added clay softener and liquid Sculpey to it before using it, so it was definitely soft and sticky when I put it in the mold. Maybe I'm too slow? I'm thinking of rubbing the mold with baby oil or liquid clay before I try again. What do you think?
I love this. When I click on the link for the texturing stamps it says not found. I'm having a hard time finding them on the website...any suggestions? Thank you.
Cool technique! My hands and wrists are quite arthritic, so I'm not sure I'll be able to do the "happy finger dance". Have you tried using a brayer for making the background layers stick to the clay inside the stamp/texture sheet?
In earlier questions about this, a brayer can prematurely lift the clay from the cavities and place it into another, ruining the effect. For hands that have painful conditions such as arthritis, tendonitis, etc., you can tamp the closed end of an acrylic clay rod down, over and over to get the same results without the same type of fatigue on your hands Michelle. Happy Claying!
Thanks, good to know. I didn't see previous questions when I skimmed down the page. Too many to look through. Appreciate you letting me know a brayer is not a good idea for the tech.
Great if you have texture sheets but useless if you have any other kind of texture stamps :( Would really like suggestion on how to remove clay from stamps if you have any? Other than pressing into "watered" clay I don't see another way
You thanked us for checking out your items but I only saw you show two of them. You were surrounded by items that cannot be seen because the camera was so far away.
You're very well-spoken and it's very refreshing. This is so cool!
Thanks for watching!

Great to hear Carla. I think you'll find smaller amounts work better and are easier to control. Happy Claying!
Awesome as always! I would love a video on scrap clay!

Awesome, thank you!!
Have fun playing with clay and this technique!
I can't wait to be able to afford all of the accessories. I'm so excited to do all of these projects.
Polymer clay is tons of fun. Once you've invested in the tools, you don't need to constantly replace them, either.

How clever. Love it.
Very interesting video.
Wow!
Wow Lisa! Here in South Africa we do not have this available so I hope that I will be able to order this! Your videos are fantastic!!! Thanks so much.

Fantástico que bonito su trabajo como puedo comprar las gomas con las figuras gracias
You're very welcome. Thank you for watching.
thank you. :)
I like how the "background" clay looks like tooled leather when there isn't any contrast added.
nice videos , my favorite too
Isn't it so much fun?!

I know you asked a while ago but I’m sure a ball tool would be good too as I also have arthritic hands!
Very nice, I liked the job, this is not a silver clay, right? And you don't need a temperature to solidify it, right?
Hi there. This is polymer clay, which does require some time in an oven to cure it. Thanks for watching!
Have you any problem with the Poly Bonder after many uses like the plug sticking itself ?
If you clean the brush after using it, before putting it away, and tighten the lid snugly, there shouldn't be problems with it plugging up.
Thank you !
Once it it finished... how many minutes and temperature on the oven? Thx
Baking times depend on which polymer clay you use. Please check the packaging for full baking times.
hello,it is baked ?
Yes, polymer clay is always baked.
It's possible to have on french please. ?
where can buy base

Hi Kimberley. We've got a video on that - watch as Lisa explains how to get stuck clay out of stamps. th-cam.com/video/BsyOFClH5AI/w-d-xo.html
Thanks. I guess I meant that I can't do Sutton Slice with mounted rubber stamps as I can't "roll" it out. But thanks for the prompt response :)
I love this and want to try but, its a little pricey for me...
It is a lot of fun! Do you do any polymer clay stuff right now?
trying this method always ends up with a stamp that has cuts in it 😢
It's a skill that needs a little practice. Goodness knows, I've done it, too :O

Thanks for the video! Has anyone ever told you that your voice sounds almost identical to that of Lily Tomlin? 😆
No, it doesn't.
No offense but I'd rather see her hands vs your set
Thanks for the feedback!
I like what you are showing and how you speak but the setting reminds me of news studios and capitalism.
