I loved it! It's great to see that one is not the only one with a bunch of projects at at time, and that one gets bored or tired of a project and can sit there for ages, etc. I'm not alone! LOL Do these whenever you want, I thoroughly enjoy them!
Hi Barbara, Glad I'm not alone. There are benefits to being scattered. The fun part is when you suddenly realize that the scattered projects have now become finished jewelry. Amazing. Take care and enjoy the mad frenzy. Oh, and thanks again. Nancy
Thank you Nancy. It is freeing to see that others toy with things, and may not necessarily finish something right away. (Like in the next 10 years.) You are so generous in sharing your knowledge.
Wow Nanc! I bet your brain gets tired, working on and thinking of so many really intense and intricate pieces at the same time... Loved this vid. Thanks!
Nancy, you are a genius! I'm still fairly new when it comes to jewelry making and acquiring tools/methods. Your videos are like a continuous revelation. Thank you for teaching people like me and helping us fill in the gaps. You rock and are so much fun!
Nancy, thanks! Love your adroit sense of humor- it’s really half the draw for me! You’re just so natural and relaxed about your process, whereas I get upset with myself, so you help me to normalize my process. Another thing I identify with and love is the combination of your artistic, technical, and scientific processes. You figured out that you needed to be on TH-cam, and you were right. I would suggest that as next steps, you may want a team! You have fabulous ideas, and there would be only too many jewelry students who would be happy to learn from you! What about offering internships to one or two carefully selected folks to help you with product testing and the business of creating repetitive parts (I’m thinking links for chain), cleaning cat fur out of flux...? 😍
Perfect video! Experimentation... great world... you make everything look so easy, as it should be. And you are very charismatic, thanks again, was really enjoyable and inspiring to see your working process from the beginning.
This is A FANTASTIC video! A big thank you. I love watching all your videos. It has added to understanding processes. I have nature in my sketchbooks for painting, color, shape, etc. Am new to jewelry making (last few years). I appreciate your videos so much!
Really enjoyed this video Nancy. Its nice to see and know that someone as productive as you comes up with design ideas from all sorts of humble beginings ... thats inspiring for me :) kisses from the UK xx
Hi Deborah, So, the deal is you can solder them together ONCE only. After that, there has to be a vent hole. It always makes me nervous though so, I always have a little vent hole for the first or final soldering. In the case of the pods, they have little hole in one end, that I pre-drilled, where the wire for the necklace will attach. That way - no flinching while soldering. Thanks for bringing up a good point. Solder girl appreciates it! Take care. Nancy
Nancy, I am just getting around to looking at your video and I must say You are a true artist. I love the way your inspiration comes from and oh my, what stages you work to get a product done. I am not at that stage yet because of monies but I work with what I have. I am so glad I came across your channel of which I have learned so much. Hat's off to you, I love your style!!! Now I am going to view your other video. Thanks so much for sharing!!!
I loved seeing your design process. I always felt disappointed in my self when I was unable to finish a piece. Now I understand I'm not the only one and that there is hope that the final inspiration may yet arrive! Thank you for sharing this!!!!!
Thank you so much JaZz. Lots to learn, I'm still doing it. I think that is part of the adventure. Wish I could figure out a way to take care of the daily routine - dishes, cooking, teeth brushing, etc. and still find a way to create. Take care and thanks again. N
I love how you embrace the randomness!!!! I'm bipolar and my thought process is very much the same, I can be working on a bunch of different projects at one time and it drives my husband nuts. I cannot wait to watch more on how you create!
We're a lot alike in respect to doing a lot of different projects at once. LOL! I LOVE your ideas, and can't wait to see what you do with those huge stones!
Thank you Jan. So far, the Everbrite looks great. I applied it to the heat patina and the colors didn't change. Usually, especially with liver of sulphur colors, when a sealer is applied the colors change. I still need to test it with the LOS next. I'll let you know. Thanks for writing and the fabulous comments. Take Care. Nancy
Hi Nancy! Great video! It's very interesting to see other artists' working processes. Please keep us posted about the EverBrite testing. I work with copper/red brass and had contacted you a while back concerning their tarnishing issues. You'd told me to embrace the natural patina, which I have, but still am on the quest for some sort of protective coating. As always, I truly enjoy your videos and you stellar wit! Jan
Love love love your work! I've been to your site and had a look through your gallery too. You are one talented lady! I would love it if you could do a tutorial on pierced bands with set stones. Also where do you come up with patterns if you can't draw? I so appreciate all your sharing and thoroughly enjoy watching your videos.....very inspiring.
Hi Gloflyer, Thanks. Guess there's a bunch of us out there. I have TWO huge boxes filled with failed experiments. I should send them to the refiner but...something could emerge from the depths that I will embrace - even ten years later. Have fun. Nancy
enjoyed the window into your world/desk/thoughts, found the new vid today on the portrait necklace will be doing that so thank you, would love to learn more as I never feel like I can get what's in my head to my work lol, I too multi-task my work, tweak drawings but I lack in knowing how to do some things I hope to learn from you... again thank you for your videos, taking the time to do them ~JaZz~
Haha. I went to Tucson this year and they tried to take all of my hard-earned cash but, I tricked them and only went for 3 days, instead of the week I had planned. I have banned myself from any future gem shows until everything is used up. Happy creating.
Hi MaryRose, That's a good question about the EverBrite. I'll try it today! Great suggestions on the pods and appreciated. What I came up with that worked beautifully, was to paint a layer of fimo liquid polymer clay, embed glass, bake and repeat. They look fabulous. I'll post a picture somewhere??? The problem now is finding black steel wire that is thick enough. I just ordered some that may work, from Metalifferous. I'd love to see (privately) a pic of your space. Ran out of room ...
Wow, what a great discovery I made this morning when I stumbled upon your video! I work a lot like you do - many projects going at the same time and experimenting with different materials, etc. I work mainly with ceramic clay but took metalsmithing classes last year and are experimenting mixing copper and clay - lots of ideas for next year. Will be following your videos. Best wishes for 2013.
Hi again VC, yeah, it gets depressing sometimes - when the reject box is bigger than what's on the desk. We make about $.06 an hour - taking into account all of the research and development. Lordy! Thanks for comment and know that I feel for you! Take care. Nancy
Barbara, I'm so excited that I have a groupie! Thank you!!!! Hope you had a fabulous Holiday. Me? I'm thrilled that it is over. Way too much cooking and not enough jewelry making. Take care. Nancy
Hi Nancy...this was a blessing to me. I have been a metalsmith/beader for over 20 years and have all these projects that I just sit and stare at and wonder if I am going crazy or not...ha. But if I am not in a certain zone I cannot attempt to create, so I just keep putting them to the side.
Hi Christi, First off THANK YOU! Lovely comment. I will note your suggestion. My patterns, hmmm...Well, sometimes I trace them from clip art books but, what I usually do, is sketch out an idea and refine it in Photoshop. If you don't know photoshop, you can use drafting templates to create smooth, straight lines. Here are two books that I use a lot (available on Amazon): Plants by Jim Harter, Floral Victorian Ornament by Karl Klimsch. Another good video idea! Thanks. Nancy
Hi again, part two. I really want to play with electroforming. It looks like fun. My friend has Sherri Haab's system. I'll have to borrow it...How are you handling all those little bumps that form on the electroformed pieces? Curious. Thanks again. Talk to you later. Nancy
I LOOOVVVEE the creepy baby faces!!!! I think that would be the coolest idea for a themed Halloween line! I might have to get some polymer clay to play with now.
Hey Digsup, how are you? Those huge stones are beckoning me everyday. But, I don't want to start any more new projects as I'm already a bit confused. I try and ignore them but, they are insistent. Soon... Glad I'm not alone with the creating frenzy. Take care. Nancy
Hi Nancy. I really enjoyed seeing what's on your desk. Have you finished the testing with the everclear and the other spray lacquer. I have been wondering if the everclear was worth ordering. I'm on an extremely tight budget after my divorce so can not do the product testing that I would like to do. Can you please share your results and let us know what spray lacquer you used?
Thanks for sharing, we are kindred spirits! If you could see my workspace and process I think you would feel right at home! Can you dip chains in EverBrite? I was thinking about your seaweed pods and wondered if you had tried electroforming? ( what I'm currently playing with ) or thinning out metal clay ( maybe one of the base clays ) and painting on layers over the seaweed - after you have a thick enough layer cut it in half, fire and make a mold? Thanks for posting! Mary Rose
Lokeelee, Hi again. Due to overwhelming demand, I've embraced EverBrite! Hah! Actually, so far so good. I've got it in a tumbler with ceramic medium and it outperformed the spray on product. Also, the colors from heat and liver of sulfur remained bright. So, so far I like it a lot. More later. Nancy
Nancy I love your videos and work, was wondering if you have ever done a video on the Navajo shadow box ring? I really love them but for the life of me can't figure out the top of that type ring. If you know of any videos can you lead me that way? thanks
Hi Nancy, great video, as always! I thought that if you soldered two shapes together to make one hollow piece- like the pods- that they could explode? lol What do I know?!?!? I am not solder girl apparently!
Hi Clayborn, glad you got inspired. Would you be willing to send me a picture of your art? I'd love to see it. I've found another way to add the salt crystal although, I like your idea a lot. I painted a thin layer of Fimo liquid polymer clay, embedded the German glass, fired in the toaster oven and then put on one more layer. I love the sparkle. Now to finish the necklace... Thanks and have fun. Nancy
After watching a youtube clip there are normally suggestions for other videos that are similar. Well after your video there is nothing but bodybuilding/bench pressing clips. LOL Anyway, I would LOVE to see how the seaweed necklace looks when it is finished :)
Hi Dew, yep finished the testing. You can check out my finishing page at my website (here, altered because YT doesn't allow links): nancylthamilton (dot) com/techniques/finishing-jewelry/. Scroll way down the page to the heading "Sealers" to see the results. I can tell you that I liked it. Of course, I haven't had years to put it through the paces. Eventually, varnishes and lacquers will have to be redone - especially, if they are used in high wear pieces like rings or bracelets. Thanks.
Hi Lavonne, Bodybuilding? Oh, how funny is that! Must be the "bench" in the title. I can't stop laughing.... Seaweed necklace is evolving...Take care. Talk to you later. Nanc
Hi Strube, yep, brain pain. Actually, I just get confused and often wander around wondering what I was supposed to be doing. You know, acting normal. BTW, the "theft" occurred at the gem show. The vendors robed me. Although, I did get some pretty pretty chain and shiny stuff in exchange for a lot of my hard earned money. Later numero uno. Nancy
HOw you fixed the crystal point on 11:30 ?? Do you glued it? Maybe with bicomponent resin or you only set it in the bezel like any other cabochon? Thanks
Wow, thanks Desiree! Glad we found each other. Looking forward to lots of creativity and videos this year. With any luck, I'll get something done!!! Guess I have my resolution covered. Sounds interesting, what you are doing. Would love to see your work. Email me, if you wish. Take care and HNY! Nancy - ps: check out my website for more information.

Love your tutorials - I'm a beginner and work with the same schitzo style. Thanks so much for sharing and letting us explore your world.
We're a lot alike in respect to doing a lot of different projects at once. LOL! I LOVE your ideas, and can't wait to see what you do with those huge stones!

Maybe you could use silver filings for on pods. It looks nice and gives texture. Just a idea i have used👍
I love loud videos it’s more interest I will he enjoyed your video this time don’t worry beads are busy I enjoyed it
Nancy this is an older video; do you still get a chance to have so many creative projects going on simultaneously?🙋🏻♀️🙏🏼🌺
What was your final opinion of EverBrite, Nancy? Was it a succes?
