  • In today's video I'm fitting a capacitor kit to my Nintendo Game Boy DMG . Capacitors have a certain life span, and the fact that this Game Boy is over 30 years old means that mine are a potential ticking time bomb. I got a kit from this guy on eBay ( www.ebay.co.uk... ) and I work through it in this video.
    The desoldering iron that I used is the YIHUA 929D-V Desoldering Iron -amzn.to/3txFUkP
    I really hope you enjoy it!

    Just 2 tips: 1) you don't need to use flux when soldering directly with the solder wire if it already has flux inside
    2) using too much solder at the joints increases the stress on the joints and could potentially rip the pads. Learned that from other repair technicians channels i watch

    I had a similar "desoldering gun" that you use. It was actually much better than I've expected. The tip lasted for like 6 months before breaking to pieces. Unfortunately I haven't got any spares and I'm not sure if it is even designed to be replaced...but I don't mind, it was very cheap :) It's a good start!
    On the other hand, I have mixed feelings about replacing the capacitors on a Gameboy DMG. It has pretty good caps (unlike the Sega Game Gear). The only time I've found a bad capacitor on the Gameboy DMG was when someone plugged a charger into the headphone jack. One of the capacitors just EXPLODED.

      There’s replacement tips on Amazon . Even though there weren’t any failed caps, it was a nice first go at something like this!

    Hi, but if I put a 10uf 25V capacitor instead of 10uf 16V. Am I doing any harm? because Ali's ones have a different wording. And I can't find the 16V ones!

      That will be absolutely fine, a higher voltage is okay, the uf value is the critical one.

    14:42 why is the screen flickering?

    • @kiphakes
      @kiphakes  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s just because the refresh rate of the screen doesn’t match the frame rate of the camera. It’s not something you see when looking at it in reality

    I got clickbaited. Never heard anyone to recapping as "fitting a capacitor kit". Weak.
