Hard to believe this game was one of the starts the the entire romance of the kingdom series. I do feel as you do and would love to see this remade, and updated i would even play the non-translated version. Maybe some day on a rom somewhere :P.
The commander & warlord battle themes are just amazing. My personal favorite's. Had a brutal time against Lu Bu and Si Ma Yi back then when I was younger.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms meets Final Fantasy! Thanks for uploading this. The Three Kingdoms track at 1:16 is one of the best overworld themes in all of 8 bit rpgs.
I LOVE the menu theme!!! I went for days listening to that damn song on a loop this one time. Ended up drumming on my desk improvising a catchy beat to it after a while. ^^;
Oh thank god the mp3 link is finally up. It took five freakin' months but it's finally there. I know you must be really busy to have waited so long, but the wait was killing me. I jam these game soundtracks in my work truck while I drive around fixing things.
coool love this soundtrack so much memory ! But there is a little error haha the warlord battle is at 14:24 and major battle 15:27 you just inverse them :) thanks for the ost
Man you are so awsome for uploading this and all these old school scores. Amazing game and amazing music, wonderous what kind of music they could make back then. Such history, thanks again man 😆😆
I would seriously recommend this game to anyone who can appreciate that retro Final Fantasy-style jRPG and want to mix in a lil' bit of Pokemon-style make-your-own-team action in with it. The soundtrack is amazing as well, thank you for this. I was hoping you'd get to this one eventually!
Good times, excellent game back in the of day. Oh how many times I "lost my head" those of you who know in game that feeling with a few warlords. Blech, Peng Tong was always a hard fight for me over the last boss.
The best soundtracks in this game is the Management and the Palace. This game had a huge impact to me as a kid and became one of my best games in nes. It wuld be in my top5.
This was one of several NES games I played that taught me about old school Japanese warriors and geography. This was an awesome RPG but had a few frustrating parts. For example, there was a spot I got stuck at for a week trying to figure out how to get past it. Romance of the Three Kingdoms, Shingen the Ruler and Nobunaga's Ambition were three of my other Japanese favs.
CptNut Technically it's about Chinese warriors. Liu Bei and the rest are all characters in Romance of the Three Kingdoms, which is about ancient China :)
How you don't remember this game's music more often is beyond me. This is the same dude who wrote The Moon, which is considered by almost everyone as one of the top 3 NES songs of all time.
In certain places, the melody is echoing from the left channel to the right channel too slowly, to the point where it feels less like an echo and more like a round.
This game has torn such a hole in my heart. I have yet to legitimately beat it. My battery died on my original, so I would always duplicate my games & hope they survive. Even then, my best bet was just to leave the system on. I got the final boss down to literally 1, having used up all my Power Pills, and then he recovered to full! I was so robbed!
LOL remember the first time you get Lu Bu!? You pimp him up and POW! He leaves you for Dong Zhuo... Never did the same mistake again! 🤣 Those were the days ✌️
This music brings visions of Chun-Li, even as much as I love the original game. Saw it was made by Capcom, and now I want to see this referenced in the next Capcom Vs. game. Can we get a Lu Bu appearance in a fighting game, please?
This game made me hate Zhou Yu. Between his An Sha and his Hong Shui - I was like holy crap can I ever beat this guy. Water tactics were SO OP in this game.
They’re OP because they were very restrictive where you can use them. If you’re not near any body of water (which is a good chunk of the battles in the game), you can’t use them. Whereas the fire tactics you can use at any time but were weaker. And nothing felt worse than getting An Sha’d by Zhou Yu.
5:36 is a little weird. Listening from Famicom the long sound has tremolo feeling (like playing a Pipa) but here it doesn't. I remember most of the emulators and fake Famicom consoles cannot make that sound either.
I have a request for a soundtrack. It's rather hard to find and there appears to be no music from it available on youtube. My choice is the very first Romance of the Three Kingdoms on NES.
I recently played the sequel of this (translated by fans). It is pretty good! But it's kinda the same story over again, albeit with a lot of variations from how it was told in the first game. I didn't like that so much, but whatever. It's mostly more of the same. HOWEVER... the music in it is merely good. I had expected it to be great, like in this game! But it's only just good. The graphics are better, anyway. I'd take better music over that, though... There are also TWO different Destiny of an Emperor III games! One was some kind of war strategy game (as opposed to being a party-based RPG like this was) I think? And it was on Super Famicom. The other is supposedly a fan-made game for a Sega system. When I was looking into this I seemed to find that neither was available in English. Maybe I missed something though? Oh well.
This was an underrated game. I wish this was remade.
Have you played any of the fan remakes ?
Hard to believe this game was one of the starts the the entire romance of the kingdom series. I do feel as you do and would love to see this remade, and updated i would even play the non-translated version. Maybe some day on a rom somewhere :P.
This is my favorite NES Game......thanks for uploading. I played this everyday for last 2 months waiting to download.
The commander & warlord battle themes are just amazing. My personal favorite's. Had a brutal time against Lu Bu and Si Ma Yi back then when I was younger.
I've been humming the song at 5:30 for months. Finally searched it and here I am. Thanks!
Romance of the Three Kingdoms meets Final Fantasy! Thanks for uploading this. The Three Kingdoms track at 1:16 is one of the best overworld themes in all of 8 bit rpgs.
Yes! If I remember correctly it changes to this after Zhuge Laing joins your ranks.
Rad soundtrack!! Great game too, a very underrated NES RPG. Has a snappy pace that most NES RPGs don't have.
I LOVE the menu theme!!! I went for days listening to that damn song on a loop this one time. Ended up drumming on my desk improvising a catchy beat to it after a while. ^^;
Nice to see another yinzer likes this game!
I received this game when I was 7 or 8 years old. I'd go back to the starting town just to hear that music.
thankful for this games existence. wouldnt be into videogames at all if it wasnt for this. game and music are great
Menu theme on this game has been with me for life and I love it to bits.
Oh thank god the mp3 link is finally up. It took five freakin' months but it's finally there. I know you must be really busy to have waited so long, but the wait was killing me. I jam these game soundtracks in my work truck while I drive around fixing things.
One of the most underrated NES RPG games of all time. March forward my fellow DOE warriors, we're heading off to unify!
Oh god, so happy, please please don't let there be delays. I need this in mp3 format as soon as possible. Wiiguy have mercy!
coool love this soundtrack so much memory ! But there is a little error haha the warlord battle is at 14:24 and major battle 15:27 you just inverse them :) thanks for the ost

You are doing God's work, WiiGuy.

I havnt played since 30 years ago but can still hum all the melodies with accuracy
OMG brings back so much memories. So nostalgic *tear*....... ty sir

Oh my god this soundtrack is so lovely!
It's the same guy who composed Ducktales' soundtrack.
Wow I had no idea, awesome! No wonder it kicks so much ass.
This OST will not leave my fucking head ever since I played it on a homebrew PS1 NES emu disk. Jesus christ. Absolutely memorable.
I like this a lot, sounds very Megaman in places.
This game was hard as hell which made it that much more enjoyable.
Always thought this has the most epic sounding main title theme of any NES game.
This was one of several NES games I played that taught me about old school Japanese warriors and geography. This was an awesome RPG but had a few frustrating parts. For example, there was a spot I got stuck at for a week trying to figure out how to get past it. Did not know that, makes sense why these tracks are all so memorable then!
Si Ma Yi & his Wan Fu tactic is so overpowered.
In certain places, the melody is echoing from the left channel to the right channel too slowly, to the point where it feels less like an echo and more like a round.
And this is from the same guy who composed Ducktales.
Yes, but too bad CAPCOM didn't do the PS3-PS4 remake THEMSELVES, instead of hiring a Non-Japanese developer to do it, like WayForward.
Jeremy M what's wrong with WayForward doing a game?
Love Warlord Battle theme.
I forgot I played this when I was a kid!
Came here for the menu song
thanks giantbomb
I haven't played this game but it has some great tunes and hey Free Mega Man Sticker!
underrated game on the NES from capcom
with the composer from Ducktales
This brings back some great memories. My dad and I would just walk around and collect generals. Lu Bu was a bitch...
Romance of the Three Kingdoms RPG
Easy to overlook that this is an rpg with an ALL human cast.
Not really
This game has torn such a hole in my heart. I have yet to legitimately beat it. My battery died on my original, so I would always duplicate my games & hope they survive. Even then, my best bet was just to leave the system on. I got the final boss down to literally 1, having used up all my Power Pills, and then he recovered to full! I was so robbed!
I know your pain, Si Ma Yi is a dick
Dude, Si Ma Yi and his damn "Wan Fu" tactic.
Ce Mian, it's the only way!
That is so robbed.
Anyone do the trick to get to lv51?
Si Ma Yi used Wan Fu
Me: FFFFFFUUUUUUUUUU!
+Neon Pegasus Zhang Bao used Ce Mian, Bei Ji, Power Pill, GG
Haha, Jiang Wei used Ana Sha! Haung Zhong was decapitated!
CAN NEVER FORGET THAT FEELING!
Manage to get him a few times through the years tho. But that first kill was VERY satisfying!
✌️❤️
15:27 OMG! Lu Bu!
LOL remember the first time you get Lu Bu!? You pimp him up and POW! He leaves you for Dong Zhuo...
Never did the same mistake again! 🤣
Those were the days ✌️
im soooo happy now! im gonna cry :'3

I take it you mean something better-known (and more competitively viable) than World Heroes?
The major battle theme activates my PTSD
This game made me hate Zhou Yu. Between his An Sha and his Hong Shui - I was like holy crap can I ever beat this guy. Water tactics were SO OP in this game.

This video made me think one thing over all...I REALLY wish I had that free Mega Man Sticker...
guitar tabs for this anywhere?!
Beat this game thank god. One of the best but ALL I have to say is: that damn Wan Fu 😠😠😠
BBQ QUEST!!!
Our town has an intense crackhead problem!
5:36 is a little weird. Listening from Famicom the long sound has tremolo feeling (like playing a Pipa) but here it doesn't. I remember most of the emulators and fake Famicom consoles cannot make that sound either.
15:27 is totally not used in Ducktales. nope
have the sounds effects of this game?
I have a request for a soundtrack. It's rather hard to find and there appears to be no music from it available on youtube. My choice is the very first Romance of the Three Kingdoms on NES.
At 14:24 shit got real
i wish this game was remade for ps4 ps5 with destiny of an emperor 2 the sequel to the first game in english
Free Mega Man sticker!!
Hey can you add the download link pls^^ if you are not to busy :)
Liu Bei routed Lu Bu.
