Thanks again.. good advice as always! About an hour after watching this, I found a Sony CD Walkman NIB at Goodwill. It was marked $25. Before I saw this, I would have tossed it back, but I decided to grab it. An hour after listing it on eBay, I already had a $150 bid with 4 days left. I guess I owe you a beer!

Good find. There is only ONE time I have found a portable CD players still new in a box at a thrift store, and I go pretty much every single day of the year. I found a Panasonic one new in box with headphones everything in original cellophane. I paid $8.00. By the time I woke up the next day, it sold for $100. Probably could have gotten $150

    I'd buy the vintage desktop.
It's absolutely priceless for running older operating systems, playing older games, and general tinkering around with equipment that's cheap.

Be careful buying used DVD-Recorders, about 50% of them I come across at the thrift stores display an error code or fail to power up. If you can get them to "play" a DVD (display the time counter moving), chances are good that they will record. If they instantly display an error code or fail to power up, it's usually power supply related (bad capacitors...), although I've seen other issues. A non-working high-end unit should still command decent prices. The burning laser has a finite amount of hours so be cautious when investing "a lot of money" into a recorder you don't know the history of. Also make note that older (~2006 and earlier) DVD-recorders may only record on older slower speed media (such as 4x and 8x DVD-Rs / 1x and 2x DVD-RWs...) that have become fairly difficult to find today. It helps to have a stockpile of this older media in the shop to use for testing this older equipment and maybe even including a few blank discs with the unit. Unlike much of the rest of the world, DVD-recorders are no longer being marketed in the US , this is actually mostly due to copyright concerns. When selling a DVD recorder, it might help to mention that. Aside from a few commercial units, Blu-ray recorders have never been marketed in the US unfortunately.

  • @CharlesMichaelSidwell

Pete, as usual, you are a wealth of knowledge, and I thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to enlighten the rest of us. You have a good heart! A lot of people in this game would never presume to share advice on what to look for, because they want it all for themselves. For almost a year, I always passed by VHS players, until I saw your videos. Now I find so many of them, they are cluttering my house. But they sell! They really sell. And fast! After watching this video, I won't pass by the DVD player/recorders either. Again, I see them all the time in the Goodwill.. And much of the other stuff you have pointed out. The Garmins I see all the time, too.. But they rarely come with manual ad accessories.

+Huydgh Yghggj. I use a UV pen to mark items that I sell on eBay. Any items that are returned to me can be checked with a UV light. So far no-one has returned a different item, but it will happen at some point in the future. Don't leave yourselves open to fraud, and mark everything you sell with a UV pen for peace of mind.

I look for just 3 items at yard sales and flea markets for a small amount of money. I see them frequently often enough that I don't even need to look for any thing else although I do get other things to sell. My profit turnaround is 14 times what I paid for it in the $100 to $250 range each and they sell quickly with only the proper sales pitch they require for a successful sale. Others have tried and can only make one quarter of what I sell them for. It's my little secret and most people I buy from think these items are worthless.

Just went to a Goodwill store in southwest Michigan, prices were ridiculous. $30 for a crappy sony cassette deck, $50 for a crappy electric drill. $20 for a stupid little boom box that would probably get $5 tops on Ebay if it even sold. This was the worst Goodwill I've ever seen, and thankfully I live about an hour away from this shit hole. Management must be onto the pickers for sure.

I've had to look into these "newer" vintage items as the stuff I used to get has gone the way of the wind. The 70's and early 80's stuff. I used to pick up mint Marantz, Pioneer, Sansui for $10 a pop...Yes, even McIntosh....Sadly, all our Goodwill's in southern Ontario were closed down and a lot of thrift stores now send a lot of electronics to recycling right away....The horror! My personal stereo right now includes a Sansui AU-11000A, which I got for free, a Lenco 75 turntable that I paid $12.99 for and a set of Klipsch tower speakers that were also free. I also have a matching era Sansui tuner hooked up and an original Sony discman, with power adapter to play CD's. Cheers!

Tips... Sony MD players have major issues so be sure to have a MD to test the loading system before selling as working. Still a demand for parts units as Pete said. Oh hey Pete, Paradigm is pronounced "para-dime" - just watch out for foam rot issues, nearly every Atom and Titan need woofer repair and the grills do not come off to inspect. Nothing worse than selling vintage audio and having it defective, just about as bad is not packing turntables properly.

Yamaha holds value for it's name, not for it's quality. That goes for a lot of popular brands of electronic stereo equipment. I don't understand how you think that those vintage cameras sell for good money when you are including 20 to 30 items in the bundle for $160.

  • @joeshmoe781
    @joeshmoe781 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Vintage electronics is good and it sounds good, AFTER all the electrolytic capacitors have been replaced. The average labor bill is $300 to do it. So don't go running off to the bank just yet.
30 years and all the caps are either out or on their way.
When you buy that take it into consideration. I know how to do it, where and what caps to buy, do you?

I've been looking for a beta player for awhile and recently found one locally. The problem is that it's really hard to find working condition beta players. As for the beta tapes, they can be good to sell in bundles, but they are not worth as much for collectors. For instance, a rare title will be worth more on VHS than beta because there isn't as much customers/collectors for beta than VHS (the VHS collectors communities are pretty big on Facebook and you can sell directly to collectors there).

I often see these items he mentions at flea markets on the tables repeated week after week sitting there months later getting scratched up and damaged. Most are in good shape and working. The prices where also fair in the $5 to $50 range still they sit. I would not buy any of it working or not unless you want to hoard stuff for months just to make a small sale in exchange for your sanity and time. Just remember that when you sell it you have to make sure that it works 100% or the sale could backfire.

I had a couple of SLR cameras, some guy just bought the lenses, later, another guy bought the bodies. Lenses brought good money, the bodies, not so much. Lenses that will still fit digital cameras seem to be the most popular, like Nikon will fit the Nikon digital body. I do a good bit in this area, or did, was selling a lot of this kind of thing, then it seemed to drop off.

How are you determining the cost for shipping? I've found with large items sometimes determining the correct amount for shipping is difficult. I have a scale but the large boxes can present problems. Thanks.
