    So I want to be a social worker, I need a masters and my GI bill only covers a bachelors, I can apply for Vocational Rehab and get the masters? Do I do that through a school or VA office directly?

    • @FormerActionGuys
      @FormerActionGuys  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your school should have a VA rep assigned to them. If your job requires a Masters degree then you can qualify for VocRehab but you have to show them why it is required. I would contact the VA rep for the school you're applying to and ask them what exact information they need.

    If I use up the majority of my post 9/11 leaving roughly 3-4 months left and I am graduated would it be possible to change my field of work going to a trade school that would be 7 months long using about 4 months of Vocational rehab?

    • @FormerActionGuys
      @FormerActionGuys  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, but you have to justify why you're leaving that field for something new. The work increases effects of service related issues, the job market is oversaturated, etc.

    Do you get paid any BAH while using Voc Rehab? Or is that only when using GI Bill.

    • @harutbadalyan1517
      @harutbadalyan1517 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      From my understanding. You can rate BAH with VocRehab as long as you have some GI bill months remaining. So you can continue receiving BAH per your area. If you exhaust all your GI bill benefits and go into Voc. You’ll receive a small stipend which is a couple hundred bucks. So best is to plan a year or 2 out before using all your post. Best of luck!

      I’m currently on Voc Rehab. I used my GI Bill while attending college and I used most of it up. Once I had 4 months left on my GI bill, I applied to Voc Rehab and yes Juan I continue to receive my BAH. It’s an amazing program brother, go for it!

    • @dgjdub7
      @dgjdub7 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@joewtfx1996 in the interview you need to be certain and convey why you want to do what you want to do and why you need it due to your disabilities. I will share my experience as an example. I was fired from my job after I was involved in a self-defense incident and my PTSD played a role in using force. Therefore, when I was terminated I found myself unemployed and I had to convey to my VocRehab counselor that in order for me to get a job again in society I needed more education than the average bear in order to be hired. Next year I will complete my bachelors and I will continue to pursue a masters degree. Once again, I have a criminal record now so I need more education in order to be hired. That’s how I conveyed my “need” for Voc Rehab.

You realize that most veterans are at a high-school education level and most aren't even that. I get that you're a minority trying to look intelligent but you can also speak to the common man.

    I wish veterans and the VA would treat Ch. 31 as a rehabilitation program and not as a education program.
    If VRE didn’t have the secondary gains it has which are largely monetary wouldn’t see the influx of applicants it has.
    Retraining can be important and needed on an individual bases. However, education alone shouldn’t be the primary goal of EVERY applicant.
