Thank you! Solution #2 worked for me even though I have a galaxy s8, which battery can' be removed. I just turned it off, did the tapping, turned it on and pressed hard on the home button (or where it's suppose to be because the S8 doesn't have a physical button)

Excelente !!! para los que estan aqui esto pasa por que algun liquido genera humedad en el boton home por eso no detecta la huella asi estaba desesperado con un pie en un centro tecnico pero me funciono el metodo 3 ! Con una secadora durante 3 minutos deje enfriar solo al cel como 10 minutos cuando lo encendi fui a la huella dactilar y enseguida me detecto el dedo!!! Thanks my friend Android Savior

Solution #2 worked for my Tab S 8.4. Battery is non-removable but simply pressing Home button while booting and releasing after boot up helped it. Thanks a lot !

How strong my beacause it didn't work on my galaxy s6
I had this issue on my LG G6 few days ago. The fingerprint option disappeared in the settings. After a few reboots, it reappeared. I quickly added all my fingerprints but I keep getting this messages again.
My fix was to assign all your FP then remove fingerprint #1 and keep all the other fingerprints enable. Haven't seen an error since. GL
TRY THIS METHOD
I did it on my NOTE 5 and it worked
1) download side sync for pc and for your phone
2)TURN OFF DEVELOPER SETTINGS ON PHONE*
3)Connect your phone to your pc using the methods side sync provides, USB will suffice(work just fine)
4)Once connected , access settings through the side sync app on pc and go to lock and security settings
5)select fingerprints option
6)add the fingerprints through your phone (do not press the home button as such ,just glide your finger through the sensor)
7)VOILA ,Victoire

#2 wasn't a permanent fix for mi, the scaner stoped working as soon as I realised the button, but it allowed me to change the type of unlocking.
I didn't even know that this phone had a finger print sensor

I have the Samsung galaxy alpha and the second one worked when taking the battery out slacking the back and holding down when turning on method. honestly lol I didnt think it would work but it did. idk if it's coz we have the same phone but ty for the help!
The fingerprint scanner without error message came on eventually, but when I wanted to scan my finger it didn't register. When I tried again, the error message came on again. :-(((

I'll be damned. The 2nd fix works.
I have just done it but the sensor failed the moment I had released the pressure from it. Gonna red, but now I know for certain that my sensor is working and hey, I haven't even seen 3 yet so that still remains ti be tried in the case that 2 doesn't solve it.

None of these steps actually worked for me... I had to carefully open my phone and I noticed that the sensor was actually unplugged
I have the Samsung Galaxy S6 (SM_G920V)(Verizon) and none...NONE of the above worked. I backed up my phone, and performed a forced Factory Reset and not only is my Finger Senor working now, but the battery performance improved.
