Holden was right about Marco. Simply killing him would elevate him to martyr status in the eyes of his followers. He would be unstoppable. Doesn't matter who kills him. Marco doesn't need to be ended. Marco needs to be unmade. His legend needs to be dispelled. Monica's documentaries are helping with that, but the two key people at large who can do him the most damage are Drummer and Filip. Drummer is in position to hand him humiliating defeats; Filip has it in his power to record and broadcast Marco telling how he really feels about Belters, in his own voice and his own words. Stick a needle in him and watch him pop like the foul gasbag he is.
Yeah, but he didn't spare Marco because of that reason anyway. His real reason as he just said to Naomi was because he didn't want her son's(Filip) blood on his hands. His selfishness will cost more lives before that war is over and Holden also gave Marco a perfectly good nuke to do as he sees fit. This season is brilliant, just like the season before, much like season 3. Excellent show. Don't you just love the dynamic between Holden and his would be killer? It is exceptional that Clarissa became such an interesting character despite the fact she was essentially a faceless villain in season 3. Great the show didn't just leave her by dumping her in prison and saying 'job done'. Philipp is changing I think, he is uncertain and is lashing out to hide it - he is facing tough questions about who he really is so tries to bury it in an outburst of anger just like he was hiding in keeping himself busy on Ceres. Camina - such an excellent character and pretty much built in the process of creating the show. Cara Gee is great actress to make it impossible to leave the character without more development. Plus the scene when they were boarding the supply dump is awesome. Also interesting how the main 'rogue Martian' admiral Duarte was introduced. You could do that in so many ways, but they've chosen this one which exposes so much humanity and gives out his justification. That can be scary. The scene when two people who have problems with expressing emotions express grief by singing is very good. Finally the movie made by Monica is very moving and so relevant in out troubled times of divided societies, hatred, fear and anger. Take care! And let's hope that 2022 will be better.
He's conflicted, and he's falling back on what he knows and what he has been taught. Truly interesting to see him grapple with the effects of what they are doing. In most cults, what is being purveyed is nonsense but in the Free Navy's/Belters' case, they have been wronged and they are fighting back. The problem with this obviously is that they are becoming exactly like the people that wronged them in the past. Hell, I'd argue that they are worse than those that came before them. Not only are they affecting Earth/Mars in a detrimental way, but they are affecting their own people as well, hoarding necessary resources and actively working against their own people on top of that, to stick it to the Inners. The whole entire reason why Filip is so unbalanced is because on one hand, he is like his father. He's been brought up by him, of course he's going to fall back on what he's been taught. His time with his mother though has obviously put a chink in that armor. They killed millions with the rocks, and they're putting billions at risk on top of that, and he's obviously hearing what his mother said in his head. He has tried to distract himself with women, alcohol, and visions of grandeur that he and the FN are doing the right thing. We'll see what happens, and which side will win out in the end, but it's been a very interesting journey to get to this point.
Remember what Sauveterre said to Babbage before being erased. Duarte wants a "perfect society" on Laconia. Failure = death So, the firing squad is logical even if it seems a bit extreme
I fear that I will die empty after internalizing the fact that there are just two more episodes. I know the excuses for doing a 6 episode season, but it's not enough.
24:38 I don't know if they're wrapping up the Free Navy, but Marco is definitely going down by the end of this. This episode has geniunely made me consider the possibility of Filip taking command of the Free Navy and leading it down a more compassionate path going forward.
Happy New Year!! Great reaction and analysis!! This show as you stated is something very special to me at least. This is an adult show yes. And it has something for everyone. But the thing that just amazes me is that the writing doesn't pick political sides but instead makes us as humans to take a look at ourselves in a way that organic and reach our moral compass. That is very special science fiction writing. GOD..... I'M GOING TO MISS THIS SHOW 😢
From now on, I am referring to Camina Drummer as "The Red Viper". However they choose to end this show, at least all of the characters aren't suddenly behaving like totally different people.
If you referring to season 8 of GoT: None of the characters in that season behave out of character . Sure there plenty of problems with the last season (mainly because it was rushed) , but out of character isn't one of them.
I'm not sure if you are aware, but they have bonus episodes after each episode that focus on a different character. Once the episode is over move your cursor and "X-Ray" appears on the top right. Click "View All" and then "Bonus Content" and you'll see the mini-episodes.
Redoubt means 'temporary fortification' and has nothing to do with the word "doubt". Also, the 3 words that Drummer used in her speech have nothing to do with GoT. They're from an old Native American quote, and quite fitting since Cara Gee is Indigenes. I hope that's the reason the writers put it in there, and not GoT.
A more general interpretation would be a fall-back position, which the episode seems to showcase. Avasarala's fall-back is to show people that the Free Navy is their true enemy. The Martian's fall-back is direct confrontation, whether it meets Crisjen's approval or not. Marco's fall-back is to space anyone who displeases him. Lucky for him he still has one subordinate willing to stand up to him. Holden is apparently falling back to the days of making really bad decisions for all the right reasons. It turns out well, but not for any of the reasons he gives. Killing Marco would be like killing Obi-wan Kenobi. He would only become more powerful than we could possibly imagine. Before he can be ended, his well-crafted persona needs to be vandalised.
Can't believe the show is almost over. I think this is the end of the road and we won't get any more Expanse, at least not with this cast and crew. Maybe they can continue with more video games after the Drummer one. Also you guys should watch Beforeigners on HBO Max.
We'll see. Ty Franck has been hinting for months that they might have something planned, but that may have been the video game. There's also been rumors the show just had to "end" temporarily because of some issue with how the contract is written, but that's unconfirmed. Alcon is the production company and they're predominantly known for doing movies so I wouldn't be surprised if they have some plans for it, but it depends how profitable it's been for them of course.
@@davebcf1231 It's hard to imagine the show jumping to yet another streaming service. And I think by now it's clear Amazon is done with the show. Shortened final season and not much promotion. Hiding the bonus footage behind a terrible UI.
@@knowyourhistory Amazon may not be interested, but they do own the streaming rights for all of the 6 seasons, for 2-3 more years. Maybe they'll give them up after a year...who knows?
@@knowyourhistory Ty said the shortened season was to get the most out of the budget, but I'm not sure how much he's actually allowed to say about why. There are rumors that the "end" of the run is due to something in the contract where they needed to "end" the show at six seasons and then "restart" it to make the money situation work, like I said. There's been an article or two about it, but nothing confirmed so who knows if it's true. Netflix is also an option since it's already one of the distribution platforms for it overseas.
Been a while Kat and Sonny, for some reason I was missing your video posts for a few months. Happy to be back with you. Happy to see you are enjoying the final season, its been good. By the way, have you read any of the books?
I can see Holden's justification for sparing the Pella but ultimately it's a selfish choice. He has put his personal relationship with Naomi above the larger cause which makes him a bad leader and a bad captain. I keep going back and forth over Filip coz sometimes I feel he will see the light and end Marco or at least leave him and sometimes I feel he's all in. I am glad the final season is not all action and there's still character moments though. I have a bad feeling that this will all end in heartbreak in the final episode.
From what he said to Naomi, it might’ve sounded selfish, sure. But there’s also another good reason - if Marco had died then and there, he would’ve become a martyr, and that might have made things even more difficult. As someone else wrote in a comment - Marco can’t just be killed, he needs to be unmade and outed for everyone to see. But yeah, you’re probably right about this ending with some sort of heartbreak in the final episode.
@@KatSonny The reasons that Holden gave Naomi is the real reason, anything else is just positive spin, isn't it? Holden surely wouldn't lie to Naomi about something as big as this. Regardless of that, you could compare Marco to a infamous genocidal maniac of the 20th century. Surely there's no argument to keep him alive. Even if Marco becomes a martyr, he's too dangerous on the loose. Naomi was right when she said that Holden has indirectly made her responsible for everything Marco does from that point on.
Squeaky wheels. I've been entertained by the season. Some episodes have more going on than others, but it's good stuff to tie the series up. All the past friends we saw last episode was great.
We get comments from unhappy people on approximately every episode that are negative about this series/season - they are few, but they are still there.
@@KatSonny Ahh, can't make everyone happy, glad you two are enjoying it as am I. I finished the last book and they really stuck the landing great series and should win several awards if the buzz is any indication.
I'm loving Rosenfield this season. She's a very different character than her book counterpart, but I dig her snarky loyal opposition attitude. If they continue the series and she managed to survive this season, I kind of hope they bring the actress/character back and let her pick up some other book-parts like Drummer did. She'd be a great substitute for the "Katria Mendez" character in the next bit of the story.
I think Marco, filip, and naiomi storyline will end. The liconia storyline will be open-ended…too be continued in the hopeful 7th(12 episodes!!) season.
Depends on what "all this" means to you. The season will wrap up book 6, and as a reader I believe they can end this in a satisfying way. But there are 3 more books full of story after that.
I'm so over Filip. As I see it, it's too late for any redemption for him, and I really hope they don't go that route. He doesn't have any redeeming qualities at this point, and even though I suppose it's more true to life that way, it doesn't work for me. It's been dragged out too long.
These are really good old school episodes, just not for the last 6. All the drawn-out Naomi stuff from the previous one should've been condensed to give room for THESE six episodes. So that this short last season could tie up the story of Expanse. Not just the story of "what's up with Marco and co." Now there are still two episodes left, but they can't possible change that dropping the entire rings/aliens story-line, was an unfortunate move, in my opinion. I'm really curious how it'll end, though.
They've already said that they aren't trying to finish it. Also in the books there's a 30 year time jump btwn books 6 and 7, and this was the best place to pause the story until another method (or time) comes around for more of the Expanse.
Yeah, Holden's selfish actions just gave Marco a perfectly good nuke. It was not worth it, even for Naomi's kid(Filip). Yeah, I get trying to do the right thing, but not at the cost of stopping a war and saving lives whether they're from Earth, Mars, or the Belt.
The whole Marco/Filip etc etc is nothing,,the big picture is how the kid is brought back to life by the space dogs..now that shit is scary and bigger than everything so far..and we won't get an answer to this this season,,or everrrrrrr
I don't think that the scene with the Hank Williams song worked that well. We have only seen Alex listeneing to music during one scene (as far as I can remember) and it was several seasons ago. That fact makes this scene feel like it's trying to make the viewers feel sentimental without having any substance behind it.
Saw Alex listening to his tunes on headphones on at least two occasions in season three, and saw him chasing free fall beer droplets to this very tune on speakers to relieve boredom in season two.
@@TheDetailsMatter Also in S3, his headphones were floating around with country music coming out of them, when Naomi found him injured in the galley. Way too many scenes for anyone to forget his love of that kind of music.

Filip is becoming more like his father. Instead of owning his mistake, he blamed others, instead of saying ''I am sorry, I got distracted"
Yeah, I think he’s about ready to break.
Remember what Sauveterre said to Babbage before being erased. Duarte wants a "perfect society" on Laconia. Failure = death
So, the firing squad is logical even if it seems a bit extreme
It’s a tame means of execution compared to what Laconians do in the books. No mention yet of the Pen…
I fear that I will die empty after internalizing the fact that there are just two more episodes. I know the excuses for doing a 6 episode season, but it's not enough.
I would have loved a longer season, but they managed to nail the whole of book 3 in half a season so I have faith!
24:38 I don't know if they're wrapping up the Free Navy, but Marco is definitely going down by the end of this. This episode has geniunely made me consider the possibility of Filip taking command of the Free Navy and leading it down a more compassionate path going forward.
I am loving Amos and Bobbie's friendly rivalry.
Waiting for the payoff when they finally bang
Happy New Year!!
Great reaction and analysis!!
This show as you stated is something very special to me at least. This is an adult show yes. And it has something for everyone. But the thing that just amazes me is that the writing doesn't pick political sides but instead makes us as humans to take a look at ourselves in a way that organic and reach our moral compass. That is very special science fiction writing.
GOD..... I'M GOING TO MISS THIS SHOW 😢
you look like a vampire prince and she an elf princess, light and dark couple lol
@@remliqa Agree to disagree.
As always good job.
Do you guys know about the extra scenes in the "bonus content" section of the episodes? They are only around 5 min. each but they are worth watching.
Yep. We have been talking about them in our intros, and will continue to do so 🙂
Philip is realizing what serving under his father means. If he is to follow Marco, that means killing belter lowda like Drummer.
I'm not sure if you are aware, but they have bonus episodes after each episode that focus on a different character. Once the episode is over move your cursor and "X-Ray" appears on the top right. Click "View All" and then "Bonus Content" and you'll see the mini-episodes.
We have been talking about them in our intros to each reaction, and will continue to do so 🙂
@@KatSonny Totally missed that--I've been skipping straight to the reaction. I'll have to go back and watch the intros now.
Duarte seems like a nice chap.
It make perfect sense to anyone else that Camina Drummer was a Dornish Princess in a previous life? 🌞🐍
“We are still here” was the giveaway. “Unbent, unbowed, unbroken” was an indigenous oath co-opted by Game of Thrones, not originating from it.
@@davebcf1231 The show isn't on Netflix anymore since its move to Amazon.
Are you guys going to react to the 5 minute mini-episodes in the bonus content?
watch the intros
@@KatSonny ah, sorry about that.
Been a while Kat and Sonny, for some reason I was missing your video posts for a few months. Happy to be back with you. Happy to see you are enjoying the final season, its been good. By the way, have you read any of the books?
Same. Maybe because they were almost exclusively watching Anime stuff for the last 8 months or so.
@@Riddler0603 should have still gotten notifications though. What animes?
Never mind, at least some of it was attack on titan.
I am curious as to where you are hearing the negative feedback, everything I have seen about this season on the webs has been positive.
Squeaky wheels. I've been entertained by the season. Some episodes have more going on than others, but it's good stuff to tie the series up. All the past friends we saw last episode was great.
@@artboymoy yep been super solid. Books stuck the landing too.
She looks like she's way too much ambitious and manipulative to stay alive long alongside Marco
@@axlm.808 Close proximity to Marco Inaros, in general, lowers your long-term survivability.
@@Reedstilt Staying away from the airlocks might reduce the risks
@@axlm.808 Once they're around Inaros for too long, women can help but throw themselves out of airlocks.
I cannot imagine how they are going to wrap all this up in the 2 remaining episodes of this last season and that has me concerned.
Ye of little faith and imagination. Pretty sure "they" know what they are doing - we should all know this by now.
I think Marco, filip, and naiomi storyline will end. The liconia storyline will be open-ended…too be continued in the hopeful 7th(12 episodes!!) season.
If we are lucky, a huge battle.
Depends on what "all this" means to you.
The season will wrap up book 6, and as a reader I believe they can end this in a satisfying way.
But there are 3 more books full of story after that.
Are you guys watching the X-ray bonus scenes off camera? Even if you don't include them in the reaction they're worth watching if you're able.
They talked about the x-ray from last episode in the intro
Watch the intros
@@KatSonny my bad, sorry
That lucky earther scene hit even harder when you look at Israel-Palestine today
are you guys watching the X-Ray content?
Watch the intros
are you watching their video?
I'm so over Filip. As I see it, it's too late for any redemption for him, and I really hope they don't go that route. He doesn't have any redeeming qualities at this point, and even though I suppose it's more true to life that way, it doesn't work for me. It's been dragged out too long.
Self-sacrifice might be the thing for him.
These are really good old school episodes, just not for the last 6. All the drawn-out Naomi stuff from the previous one should've been condensed to give room for THESE six episodes. So that this short last season could tie up the story of Expanse. Not just the story of "what's up with Marco and co."
Now there are still two episodes left, but they can't possible change that dropping the entire rings/aliens story-line, was an unfortunate move, in my opinion.
I'm really curious how it'll end, though.
They've already said that they aren't trying to finish it. Also in the books there's a 30 year time jump btwn books 6 and 7, and this was the best place to pause the story until another method (or time) comes around for more of the Expanse.
I'm in S05 and I passionately DO NOT LIKE NOR AM I INTERESTED in the Inaros family affairs, which is a lot of the season. Pretty disappointed hence.
sorry you're disappointed fam. Hopefully you are able to pull through cheerily enough and get past it
Yeah, Holden's selfish actions just gave Marco a perfectly good nuke.
Then u weren't paying attention.
From what I've seen from reactors, the scene appears to be having the desired effect.
@@deanadewall8400 ..and don't forget that Bar on Mars. ;)
