I think it’s shit really. This series should not be finished yet, series 6 should have been a 12 parter with only half of the story we have seen. This was such a good series. Why was it not advertised more and pushed. Oh well, we got what we got at least.

Dominique's scream when she sent the Pella down was an ad-lib, it shows how invested the core cast was in the story. I don't know if they wrote a short story about the fate of Filip, but that would make a good one shot.
I was given five years to live 21 years ago, and I am still beating the odds, maybe Peaches will too.

I'd be interested to know exactly how streaming services like Netflix and Prime evaluate a series that they stream commercial-free. The litmus test for a popular network series has always how high the network could raise the price of commercial time. If you had advertisers pay a large premium for commercial time, you had a show which was sure to have a long run. Thinking about it a little bit, those commercial prices were probably powered by Nielsen ratings. Is Nielsen still compiling stats on each of the 10,000 shows airing weekly on the hundreds of streaming services and the remaining traditional networks? If so, no matter how excellent The Expanse was, you have to assume viewers will find it, first, and then become fans of the show. Even then, with so many viewing options available nowadays, what is the best a producer can expect in viewership when it is split among 10,000 shows?

Concerning Marco's death: It was incredibly satisfying because of how hung up he was on himself being the face of the Free Navy. He said it wasn't about him, but everyone who paid attention around him knew he saw himself as the center of it all. Last season, he even said Filip was insignificant but that he would take over the Free Navy - the throne - when Marco was no more, because he saw Filip as an extension of himself. Marco wanted to immortalize himself. But in the end, he had no spectacular death, no martyrdom, he didn't even go down fighting. His final words were words of retreat, he died shamed and empty - just like Drummer said he would. And NOTHING was left of him. He was obliterated, disintegrated, along with his ship. And his son? His extension of himself? Put the nail in the coffin by changing his name, erasing the Inaros legacy once and for all. I think when we see Filip change his name to Nagata was when Marco REALLY died.

Still and all, I would kind of liked to see Marco die as he had lived, in so much as his final statement should not have been "Veer Off" but rather, "I expected this, of course. It's all part of my master plan to rule the so--"

I am lucky to have watched the Expanse since the first episode aired on SyFy in 2015. It felt like a secret the first season. I couldn’t convince anyone to watch it with me until mid way through season 2 when “Home” premiered that I forced a friend to watch S1E1 and he joined me. That was my first rewatch on S1 and I became addicted to watching him react. It wasn’t until a few years later I found out people react to shows on TH-cam. That’s when I discovered this channel and started watching. It’s been great watching you catch up over the last few years but even more fun taking the final season journey together. I’m glad you caught up when you did and who knew watching two strangers enjoy something would bring so much joy and emotion. Thanks for making the world a little bit smaller.

"It doesn't matter if you ever know - you just have to try." Maybe Naomi will never know Filip survived, but she knows she tried. Holden called her very wise after she said that, which reminds me of more wise words from this wise woman: "Walking away is the only choice we have." She showed this to Filip when she impossibly left the Pella. What a role model for him to be so brave.

I love how there have been callbacks to the rest of the series-
Prax providing info on modified yeast to help Earth's food supply,
modified armour based on Protomolecule research,
Inaros' disguised ship and use of shipping containers to transport assault troops are the same tactics the Roci used in earlier seasons,
when the Roci saves Amos and Bobbi it lights them up with a searchlight same as it did at the start of the season when James was on the asteroid,
Bobbi's rocket attack on the railgun reactor is a callback to her introduction,
the transport used for the assault is the same type as the Canterbury
the analysis of the ring gate entities by the Ilus scientist helps wake them up to kill Inaros

Damn! I have seen the episode three times and every time barely held my tears. And couldn't hold them this time...
It is a beautiful story and I have actually subscribed to this channel thanks to the Expanse reactions for season 3 - it is pretty much the first reaction channel I've noticed in the internet so thanks a lot for your work!
Couple of points, so a lot...
Marco Inaros - we really rarely get so well constructed villains like him. Very smart, clearly charismatic, with deep convictions, however also a perfect narcissistic type capable of darkest deeds. In the past he could be a conqueror leading armies to reshape the world and in this reality he was very close to becoming one. I love how he has dealt with the problem how to defeat enemy fleets of similar size to his forces - all he needed (apparently to his enemies) was not to lose and retreat to the ring space, but he managed to entirely break the balance of forces by hiding the Pella in the weakest fleet and defeat Drummer's fleet. In the 5th season we can hear him saying 'you must always have a knife in the darkness' and this time the knife was the Pella.
A perfect opposite of Holden. Was only defeated because Naomi played something from entirely different set of rules, something he couldn't understand.
A very, very scary person and his defeat was very satisfying.
Laconia - the 'Spartan world'. I think that Duarte fashioned another blade from this world and its resources. Clearly a man who thinks a lot has to be done to 'defend the Humanity' i.e. kill Gods - I guess. I like that even with so little we have reached a level of a certain understanding of the man and that who he is is another scary realization in the series.
Drummer. Everything perfectly according of what we could expect from this person. The fact she will essentially hold one of the most important positions in the entire human civilization is very fitting. She has guts, she has skills and she is the best possible choice to do so.
In my opinion she is one of the best sf characters we have seen on a screen. Ever.
Beaten and bruised. The assault on the ring station. It is very good 'landing war sequence', but frankly what I like more is the consequences - how everyone seems beaten, tired, bruised (especially Bobby) - much like in movies such as Die Hard Ty & That Guy constantly mention.
And actually let's not forget that they've lost the battle and still decide to make a last stand which they win only thanks to Naomi.
What I also like a lot in the entire battle sequence is how lethal the single rail gun is - they've mentioned infinite inertia last episode, but I didn't expect such a deadly rate of fire. Makes sense and looked spectacular.
BTW I am sure you've noticed that already but the names of the landing marines are all from known sf movies, especially from Aliens.
Clarissa. Only some shows can do it - turn a villain of the story, a murderer into a character we like and are sorry for.
Plus isn't a chance for redemption a part of human experience and actual humanity itself? Just like in works of Terry Pratchett without those made up things such as morality we only have lifeless order of drifting rocks in silent vacuum.
Music. The entire show owes a lot of to Clinton Shorter th-cam.com/channels/Ng7XBPxFUqif6Mkqno_56Q.htmlplaylists I hope the entire soundtrack will be available when they release the series on Blue Ray.
Personally I consider the show the worthy successor of Battlestar Galactica - the serious subjects, the amazing music, the story arcs and how semi-realistic (in BSG) space was. Everything is here in the Expanse, but better.
I also think in a way this is the Firefly we could never get.
The last episode was the great, the amazing, even the perfect way to conclude the story.
I hope that if we get something new it will manage to reach similar levels.
    Take care!

Also, unfortunately I can't watch the discussion after (so I could be wrong about this) but I did want to mention two things I haven't seen brought up on other reactions so far.
    1. One part of Avasarala's growth which people seem to have missed is in the interaction with the bridge officer. He questions her presence and abruptly she cuts him off like she always does when an underling challenges her.
...but not to tell him to shut up or do as he's told. She takes the time to explain to him why she made her decision. She doesn't want him to "just do his fucking job." This time, she lets him understand her thought process. A kinder, gentler Queen has emerged through all the sorrow and strife.
    2. In that final exterior shot of the Pella as it approaches its demise, the show tips its hand. Earlier, the skiff is clearly seen attached to the Pella's hull. But on that final approach, the camera moves in a way which reveals all sides of the Pella and there's no skiff there anymore.
To quote a line from a series which greatly influenced this one: "The details are everything."

You’d think they’d notice the skiff leaving, on their sensors if nothing else. Immediate thought would be deserters. It’d be targeted. Been a while since I read the book, I think the Pella is docked at Callisto and Filip simply doesn’t report back to the ship before it leaves.

      @AngeloBarovierSD 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

@@FreemanicParacusia Filip has command clearance and the fleet has been bloodied, including the Pella. A repair skiff getting underway seems mundane. The only person who would question the skiff's immediate departure is Marco. Everyone else aboard would likely assume Filip is on mission, and no one on the other ships wouldn't dare ask about the skiff leaving the whole formation if neither Marco nor Pella bridge comms mention it.
Filip slipping away under the cover of Marco's giant ego and penchant for secrecy seems entirely plausible.

Really like how Shoreh held her smile and flash a look at the camera. One cannot sure whether she is smiling for the press or Holden. Personally I think it's both, it's Avasarala the quintessential politician who keep everyone guessing. She had came far enough to give Holden and Drummer a chance, and that smile is both approval of Holden's choice and perhaps a bit of pride for her boy James had all grown up and pull a fast one on her. At the same time, she probably recognize Mars and Earth need time to rebuild so if things doesn't work out, she would remedy that her way, but now, need the camera sees that she gave support to Holden and Drummer.
On a separate note, LIang Walker (the pirate) sacrifice not only F'ed up Marco's ship. The other frigate (that Drummer and fleet fire at) had to clashed into his ship to save the Pella. So he took out a frigate, heavily damage the Pella, killed Marco's most competent subordinate, thereby let Filip see how Marco is not even concern with Rosenfeld -- all in all he really intimidate Marco sexually!
Almost forgot, for one more time. F U Marco!!!

For some reason Bobbie saying 'You never say that before a fight, you say Good Hunting' was what got me teary the most. Battlestar Galactica was my favourite sci fi show right up until the Expanse came out, now they're sharing that spot. To have such a direct reference (plus Kara Thrace as one of the assault team members) made me super emotional. Such a good finale. They did a stellar job with this and honoured so much sci fi legacy with it. Sad that it's over, but I am so happy with the way it ended, after so many shows I once liked butchered their final season/episode, this was a breath of fresh air. Looking forward to see what they come up with for the final three books - after this finale, I have complete faith that whatever will happen will be good. And so happy to have been along for the ride with you two.

So understandable that reaction to that last shot... Bittersweet and another amazing music score, which is something you thankfully pointed out a few times, how amazing the music has been. Clinton Shorter definitely needs more recognition... Really bummed that apparently the production company doesn't want to release the remaining music for S5 & 6 for unknown reasons.

If you read the names of those on the assault team on the computer screen, they are the names of heroes from various sci-fi franchises or the name of authors. These include commander shepherd from Mass effect, John Rico from starship troopers, William Riker from star trek, Gial Ackbar from star wars (admiral Ackbar), Bowman from 2001, Deckard from total recall, Jack oneill from stargate, and others.

And so, Marco robs Ceres blind, sabotages the docks, and vaporizes the station's remaining water supply, all by telling everyone what they wanted to hear. But now, Admiral Duarte has wrapped Marco around his little finger and strung him along for weeks or months before finally slamming the door on his fingers at a crucial moment, all by telling him what he wanted to hear.
Well, Marco, I believe this is what Inners refer to as being "hoist on your own petard." (You can look up the unfamiliar words while figuring out how to claim this was all part of your master plan.)

    • @richlisola1

It’s not that he put all is trust in Duarte, it’s that he has no alternative but to work with him. Marco knew the Mickeys couldn’t be trusted in the long run, and I doubt Duarte got any joy from arming the Belters to kill his fellow Martians. As we saw after the funeral on Laconia, Duarte felt bittersweet over the death of the Martian Dream on Mars. Laconia is the torch he carries for Mars, and he still cares about the folks left on Mars. But his course of action was necessary, so while he isn’t crying over their deaths, nor does he get pleasure out of seeing Belter mass murderers blasting Martian ships with Martian weapons.

Well, it wouldn't really be 'The Expanse' if Amos didn't get hit or wounded at least once per season.
Guess this is goodbye for now, Dan & Ty. Just finished reading 'Leviathan Falls', and you guys didn't disappoint. Never expected you to, either. Legends, the both of ya.
Massive props to the cast and crew of the show. It's rare to see one that communicates the source material's vision with such fidelity, despite all the crazy production challenges you guys had. Could say you fought as just as hard as the ground assault teams on the ring station.
Given how Clarissa's got ~5 years left on her, I hope this'd mean that we wouldn't really have to wait a decade for production to start working on the final trilogy. With more great shows taking the 'Hiatus' route (instead of Cancellation) when major prod obstacles pop up, I take comfort in the idea that we'd get to see The Expanse _properly_ wrap up on-screen in the future.
And as always, your reaction to the ep was excellent. Keep up the great work!

Clarissa has "average" 5 years.. meaning could be less or more.. usually means that its more if you dont have a big problem or a terminal illness (thats what averages mean as they incluide ALL factors in the number, some people die fast or have other illness where this problem was derived from wich cuases death in less time) but in any case even streetching it cant be much more than 7-10 years wich means they wont go the book gap but a shorter one... IF they do the final 3 books.

I discovered the expanse randomly when I had a Hulu live subscription and came across Godspeed (season 2, episode 4), specifically the scene where Miller is on Eros waiting for the Nauvoo to hit, ready to die, when it suddenly dodges (in his point of view), and I was so taken aback. I was like, this is the guy from Hung in space, what the f... and then I started watching it from the beginning... and you know the rest. I remember there being crickets when I searched it on tumblr.. I screamed into what felt like oblivion for a good long while until the show finally began to gain traction. Now it's an end of an era. I hope not actually. But if it is, I'm satisfied overall. And that says a lot with what little they had of episodes this final season.

My understanding is that Book 7 is a 30 year jump in time from Book 6, which is why this was a very "natural" stop point. That said, its obvious that they are not done with this yet, the entire Laconia story was basically a "waste of time", unless something else adds to and builds on that story (there was no conclusion or anything, just hints of what the future could bring). So at some point, i *really* hope that we'll see more Expanse, in some form :)

And as someone who has lived almost a half century (48), I’ve seen a hell of a lot of SciFi in that time. I’ve even started the books, which is something I never do after watching a TV/film adaptation. That’s how much I want to learn more about the world Dan & Ty created. What really makes me hopeful that something is in the works is Shohreh did an interview the other day where she specifically said when asked if she would be willing to play Avasarala again, "Any time, if they give me a call and tell me they’d like to do another series or a movie. There are still the final three books and I think the idea is to turn it into a movie, like two and a half or three hours maybe. There are millions of people out there who would like to hear the rest of the saga." And they lined that up really well with the way Duarte rejected sending any more munitions. At first he needed the Free Navy to hold the ring space, but something changed and he didnt need that anymore, right after he was staring up at the ship with that satisfied look on his face.

With regards to them losing pods faster than they anticipated during the ring assault. Amos provided a clue when he said Naomi normally never makes mistakes with math. What happened was that since they woke the ring entities during the assault they actually lost some of the dummy containers during the ring transit meaning that there were actually fewer of those containers in the ring space so now the probability of getting hit goes up.
The fact that they sent a mass of very small objects through the rings and could observe at what point the ring entities awoke meant that Naomi could also get a good handle on how much mass and energy passed through the rings before they reached the tipping point. It is a bit like trying to use a balance scale to measure 1.5 kgs and you only have 1 kg weights available (big ships) to measure with. You know one is not enough and two is too much but beyond that, you have no idea, If you are measuring using 100 g weights you would know that you need 15 exactly to get 1.5 kg. The small mass shipping containers were like that for her in that because they had such small mass she could get a very accurate view of how many transited along with the two ships before the ring entities awoke.

Let's pause for a moment in appreciation of a series that managed for 6 seasons to deliver a consistent quality of writing. Not once have they delved into the usual nonsensical mumbo-jumbo a lot of series do. Everything always made sense here, and even the secondary characters were always written with finesse. Just think about it, how often do you get invested in the fate of bad guys from the other side? How about once-off characters, appearing for a couple of episodes and having more depth than main characters from a lesser show?

Hey, you two, I really enjoyed your reactions and appreciation to my favourite show. As reader of all the books, I can say I am very happy about the ending. It was so, so good!!! And I really like the fact you (Sonny) will read the books, too. What about you Kat? Do you plan to read them, too? One thing I would like to say: The visual medium of the show was limited. Until book 6 or 7 this is not a big problem. But as reader, you will recognize how limited it is in the two scenes about Sauvatere and Marco getting eaten/dutchman. Because you can describe things you will NEVER be able to show. Books 8 and 9 have a lot more scenes, where I really don't know, how they would show this without loosing a big part of what is described in the books. So even IF there will be three more seasons, movies or whatever - I think to read the books will be a huge win in any case. Have fun with it. And I am truly interested in something like a podcast about your thoughts to the books.

The show was great, and the books even better. The station, above Laconia, plays a major part in the last three books. The final chapter....had me crying pretty hard......end the epilogue made me smile.

The books are real good. While some of the characters differ a little bit, I find it very fun to hold both portrayals up side by side and see what each one highlights. There's a lot more fun insight to be found as well as some very fun humorous moments.
I really hope you enjoy them.
Also, what a finale. Excellent work, excellent acting, solid writing that most importantly stayed true to the Expanse even though the story isn't finished.
