A word of advice: Never, ever, ever use a live version of a song as your introduction to the song. Listen to the studio version or watch the official music video first, _THEN_ you can do a live version. The studio/official videos are produced and designed to be a person's first exposure to the song, even to fans of the band. The concert versions are usually meant for people already familiar with the song, thus the reason the artist interacts so heavily with the audience, such as having them sing portions of the song. There are a few, rare exceptions where a live version is at least as good (for a first time hearing) as the original, but the best bet is to play it safe and go with an original version first.

You are cracking me up! Love your participation-- and Lou Reed's "Take a Walk on the Wild Side" is another one I didn't understand for at least a decade!
Ray knew Lola was a man but didn't tell Robert Wace, the man (and Kinks Manager) who was enchanted by Lola. I guess Ray felt there was a song there. The original recording makes a reference to Coca Cola but had to re-dub Cherry Cola to avoid a possible suit from Coke. But, when you go to one of those clubs where they have "dancers" and you order a drink for them, they invariably ask for Champagne, which they seldom drink. If you were to taste it, you will likely find it tastes like Cola. This helps explain his naivete. Ray has always been a great observer of people and his ability to encapsulate their characters in 3min or less is among the very best!
@Nicole Jessica I guess we've secured your opinion on that. I'd say a smart person should care if Canada(one of the largest ice sheets on earth) melts or not. So, "Nicole Jessica", where do you live?
I don't know how I missed this one. This song is from 1970; the show is later. The audience knows all the words because this was played on the radio a LOT. It never got censored. Now, I didn't really get that Lola was a man for a long time myself, because I was a little girl when this song was released. But I sure knew the words, and sang along right in front of my parents. This song kicks ass, and so does your reaction.
This song was a bit of a shocker when it came out in 1970. I'd been a big Kinks fan since 1965. I got to see them play in a small club around that time. always been a big Ray Davies fan. Check out Waterloo Sunset or Dedicated Follower of Fashion
I was 16 when this song came out. I don’t think any of us comprehended what he was saying. It was always like...huh? I must not be hearing right. Lol! As I listened over a few years I was like.....ahhhhhh! I got it!! Lola is transgender.
Please try waterloo sunset and so many more love there sound my sister used to go to clubs and knew them when they were starting out. Very definitely English (londoners)
Omg u kill me. Haha fun song. It's really fun watching you explore new music. And that you can see how many fans does bands have. Had a really cranky day today, still out of work and it is driving me crazy. had to share this to Facebook just now. Seriously, you always make me laugh brother LOL
I believe it's based off a true story that happened to Ray Davies. He told his father about it, and his dad said it was great and suggested he turn it into a song.
@@IFeltFelt I believe the actual story is it happened to their Manager. Davies said of the incident, "In his apartment, Robert had been dancing with this black woman, and he said, 'I'm really onto a thing here.' And it was okay until we left at six in the morning and then I said, 'Have you seen the stubble?' He said 'Yeah', but he was too pissed [intoxicated] to care, I think". However The drummer said it was partially inspired by visiting transvestite clubs that a friend owned.
According to what I read online, they go all the way. I thought that the lyrics "I walked to the door" meant that he went to leave the bar, but apparently Lola took him back to her house.
One of the best author's of songwriting, his ability to put words and music together. It's a combination of great storytelling and music, beautiful imagination so many of his songs play out like a great short story. So fortunate I got to see them in the early sixties and seventies always put on a great show
the kinks were part of the "british invasion" of 1963-65, when england had given us the beates, rolling stones, the who,the animals, and the kinks. their best song is surely "destroyer". i like the under-rated "superman". in the 80s they came out with 1 more hit "come dancing". then there is "you really got me", which was big, but the van halen version is better in my opinion.
Ps: Lyrics: '' Well, I'm not the world's most masculine man But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man And so is Lola Lo lo lo lo Lola, lo lo lo lo Lola .. '' ;) yesyes

Mr Video, I am 53 years young and this is the song that played on the radio, the first time I made out with a guy when I was 16! I just love watching you discover music. Best wishes to you!
Mr. V, now that I've watched the whole video I should clear things up for you. It's hard to understand the crowd. When he says Cola, they say "C * O * L * A cola" Same for the first Lola. They spell the letters out then say Lola. Also, Lola is a man. There's a story about their manager dancing with a woman, only to find out she was a cross dresed man.
I saw the kinks at the campus in boulder col in the late 80's.college town, college girls and some good friends.kinks were great and the flat iron mtns in the background was one of the best concert settings i ever attended.they were on the low budget tour.awesome.
Unusually, Ray Davies (one of Britain's stand-out pop songwriters in the 1960s) was rather keen of the US, even while writing essentially English music. The legendary tussles between him and his brother (the other guitarist pictured, Dave Davies) are well documented. Nowadays he almost seems like a throwback, but one of the few English artists to write a song called 'Have a cup of tea' and mean it...
Without context that could also mean that Lola is a woman who appreciates her man. You have to tie it up with the earlier hints like "walks like a woman and talks like a man", "nearly broke my spine" and " sat me on her knee".
Showing my age but I have the original song bought when it first came out and now converted to Digital. This song said the champagne tasted like Coca-Cola but was removed from sale after a week under threat of being sued by Coca Cola company. They re-released it using Cherry Cola.

@@edithrobertson3127 The Canadians are good at Canada dry.
Listen to more Kinks! "you really got me" is a classic, "well-respected man" is another cheeky song, "come dancing" is another popular one. Please please please listen to more Kinks, they're truly legends!
Right, so now that you're into the kinks as well as queen I can confirm you've passed the test, you're officially British now
DUDE!!!!! This is without a doubt your best reaction where you misunderstood the song! When you said you would hit Lola with him and you gots to meet Lola, I spit my drink out. You are the best at reaction videos! Many can say they don't research a song before listening, but you proved it here, my brother. Best reaction channel on YT!!
Mungo Jerry in the summertime
No matter how good this song is ....it is impossible for me to not have Weird Al's "Yoda" in my head instead.
Dude! Canada is across the lake. You know what their flag looks like.
I guess our Maple Leaf isn’t big enough. lol

@Nicole Jessica
I guess we've secured your opinion on that. I'd say a smart person should care if Canada(one of the largest ice sheets on earth) melts or not. So, "Nicole Jessica", where do you live?
You're so much fun to watch! Keeps my mind off of 2020. Thank you!
That's....that's a UK jacket bruh. Canada is your neighbor to your North. Our flag is the red and white one with the leaf. This is one: 🇨🇦
Kinks are the bomb. They are the grandaddies of many genres of music.
Ray Davies is a great social commentator and the Kinks are loaded with great songs
I think he is talking about hooking up with a transgender, and getting into it. Could be wrong.
You would be correct
Love your reactions lol . The Kinks have a bunch of great songs . Iconic !!
In my head these guys are always young, this was a shock ^^
Ps: Lyrics: '' Well, I'm not the world's most masculine man
But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man
And so is Lola
Lo lo lo lo Lola, lo lo lo lo Lola .. '' ;) yesyes
I'm with you, Miranda. At first I thought he was going to be watching one of the original live versions, and was taken aback by a seasoned Ray Davies.
This is one of the best reactions I've ever seen.
I laughed so loud I think I disturbed my downstairs neighbors!
Cake going the distance
Yes please!
I'd never seen this performance before. Bearded dude in the audience at 6:12 was really going wild for Lola. A real man can appreciate this song!
Please watch Queen at Wembley, Under Pressure.... especially if you want to see crowd participation before the song!!
Classic. And green day concert crowd singing bohemian rhapsody. I cried.!
The Kinks were part of the British invasion in the early '60's with the Beatles, Stones etc.!!! I've seen them a couple of times, they are sooo much fun live!!!👌✌😎
AEROSMITH has a song called Dude Looks Like a Lady. Supposedly based on a true story. Ah ..... Rock and Roll. If it’s weird, it’s in Rock.
He wrote it about seeing Vince Neil from behind thinking he was a girl
I do love this song. It’s best to hear the recorded version, you get the story telling and it rocks.
1 day to go bro!!! And for the love of God, hit that joint man.
What a rotten version of one of their most iconic songs !
Nice. now you gotta hear the Weird Al Yankovic parody version: "Yoda". Its even better than the original.
nah.
I love Weird Al. I heard Yoda first, debuting on Doctor Demento back in the day. As to your comment? Nope!
Weird Al is so fkcing cringey. I used to think his songs were funny when I was like 10. Now they just seem corny.
@@keithgraham8588 so dont listen to him. They are corny.. that's kinda the point. Fact is he and his band are probably better musicians and performers than any band you can name. Also.. the guy has stuck around in pop culture for the last 35 years... most bands dont even last 5. Ya know what's really cringey? People who use the word "cringey". Please.. get a thesaurus.

This song has been famous since the 70’s.
they're English... LOL!
These old songs are so much fun! 😉Can't wait to see what you listen to next, this one surprised me! 😂Hope you're having a great day Mr. Video! ✌
You should do low budget by The Kinks
The Kinks are from my neck of the woods Mr Video - North London. They're a '60s band . Glad you enjoyed it. x
"I'm not dumb but I can't understand why she walk like a woman but talk like a man" I was 8 playing guitar in the French Quarter and "Lola" (Sandra Sexton) was in the doorway and called me over to play a song for her. When she started talking I knew what she was (you grow up fast in the French Quarter). Here she is facebook.com/pg/Sandra-Sexton-321228834572757/posts/
Transgender.
Mr Video, I am 53 years young and this is the song that played on the radio, the first time I made out with a guy when I was 16! I just love watching you discover music. Best wishes to you!
Here’s your first TH-cam trophy, 🏆 , for participation! Lmao u know I’m clownin. 🤡❤️🖤😂😂😂
Thanks for that. Great reaction to a great song. Good to see you young ones enjoying good music. 🎶👍
You need to listen to the studio version of this so you can know what's going on. LOL
Great British band. Love this song.
Oh hell yeah this ride is gonna be priceless just by the title. Thanks. Strap in and enjoy.

💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾🔥🔥🔥
Squaddd
Yes, definitely should do studio versions before live ones
You missed the important line. " I'm glad i'm a man and so was Lola".
Canadian? What makes you think he's Canadian? He's English.
