Check out Eric's song "Wonderful Tonight" another song written by him for Patti Harrison, this one will get your lady to love you. Back in the 60's and 70's there was signs around London claiming "Clapton is God" no arguments here about that one. What a lot of people also don't know is that the opening riff of this song came from Dwayne Allman, another great guitarist. Layla is my daughters name by the way, yes after this song 💖💖💖

So background on the song. Layla refers to George Harrison's wife at the time (Patti Boyd) Eric Clapton was madly in love with her, and wrote this song. Since she and George were breaking up he was okay with it. Patty and Eric eventually got married. And George attended the wedding George and Eric remained friends till the day George passed away. BTW, on the last night of his life, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton had a cutting contest. ( cutting is basically a guitar duel) it is on TH-cam you have to look for it, but it was obvious by the end that Eric knew he had been beaten. It was quite a fitting way for Stevie to go out. ..

I read something that said after his son tragically died falling out of a window of a high rise building he quit writing. Just couldn't do it any more. Then when the movie Rush was being made his buddy asked him to help write the main song for the soundtrack and while writing the song Tears in Heaven he was able to deal with and come to terms with the loss!

“Layla” was a song Clapton wrote, with Dominos drummer Jim Gordon , about his forbidden love for the wife of his close friend George Harrison (she eventually became Clapton’s wife). The song was inspired by Clapton’s reading of the classic Persian unrequited love story, the epic poem Layla and Manjun.

Btw if you're doing lives, do Leonard Cohen 'Famous Blue Raincoat' *IN DUBLIN!*, the older he got the deeper and better his voice got. He did it after his friend/business manager ran off with over $5mil of his money so he did a big tour. He was 71 and always hated touring (after this, though, he warmed up to it a lot). Then he gave a big chunk of his earnings to The Heart Foundation. Amazing man AMAZING VOICE and amazing poetry!

Bro, ya he is a cool dude, after he got off of Heroin, and coke, he found out that Stevie Ray Vaughan was i n hospital in England, he went to visit him and offer him help, they had never met before, SRV got clean, due to Eric's help. they became friends, the Night that SRV died in the helicopter crash At Alpine Valley, , Eric was supposed to be on that helicopter, but he gave up his seat to SRV because he told eric, I need to get back to Chicago and do some business, Eric did that, otherwise Eric would have been killed that night, it is you never know Man, this is a true story , check it out, r.i.p. to all, and the Music will be heard forever, Cousin Figel

The, Clapton giving his seat up for SRV and the they had never met, portions of your story are not true. The only truth to any of this story is that Stevie died in a helicopter crash and that Clapton beat dope and visited Stevie in rehab(they’d known each other for years prior) and provided motivational support. I don’t know if Clapton is cool? I don’t make assumptions. Sounds like you were told the Buddy Holly, Waylon Jennings, Big Bopper story. The SRV story is that Stevie, Jimmie & Connie Vaughn were told that 3 seats had been reserved for them on one of the four helicopters being used that day. When the Vaughn’s got to “their” helicopter, Claptons agent, body guard and asst. tour manager were inside buckled up, with only one seat vacant. Jimmie & Connie are still with us today. How the story ended is self explanatory, tragic and now history. During the deposition of the wrongful death lawsuit the Vaughn’s won years later, we were told that Stevie had offered Robert Cray the fourth seat. Whether the Cray story is true or not, I don’t know. I do know it’s irrelevant and it’s what we were told.

Eric Clapton was at the Crossroads of Rock and Roll. He played on a Beatles track, then married George Harrison's wife. Great guitarist who had an Allman play on this, probably his most famous song. Probably helped a lot of people discover Bob Marley via his version of "I Shot the Sheriff". Never wanted to be a front man, just loves the music. Major problems with drugs, and has said some very controversial things. A good example of how people are complicated and capable of amazing, and sometimes awful or sad, things.

Clapton, for his longevity, so many classics, is in the top 10 maybe. but im not a guitarist. most great guitarists can do what they all do, but thinking of it, writing it is a different thing.like in this video, the guy playing the catchy guitar tune, isnt Eric, its the balding guy next to him, yet whats his name? who knows :)

Three great love songs all written about the same woman. As others have mentioned, "Layla" was written about George Harrison's wife Patti Boyd. After she divorced George and married Clapton, Clapton wrote a song called "Wonderful tonight" about her. Long before all of that, when he was still in The Beatles, George wrote one of the greatest love songs ever written..."Something"...also about Patti. In the '90s, after they were divorced, Clapton toured with George and they performed both "Something" and "Layla" together. Speaking of love songs....I haven't commented in a while because I got married last Wednesday! Lockdown love! - GOAT in Thailand.

This is not well known, but after Mr. Clapton's son died in a tragic accident, he actually became a Christian. He released an album called "Pilgrim" about his spiritual journey. "My Father's Eyes" was the most notable hit, but I thought the whole album was masterful. He is referred to in musical circles as "the slow hand" for his style of guitar playing, which he is completely amazing! He does an "unplugged" version of "Layla" which I find amazing! He has done SO many other albums, from blues to rock. I would recommend "Blue Eyes Blue", "Cocaine", and "Wonderful Tonight". "Tears In Heaven" is a must listen. You're my favorite reactor!
