This was a really fun video to watch! I really appreciate this so much. I was actually 5 when the earthquakes hit but its nice to see what old chch looked like.
The city feels so limited now. I arrived to Christchurch in 2011, after the earthquakes. Seeing the city before, is crazy. As you said it was so much bigger. Now, the city centre feels tiny.
Thank you for making this 🙏 I'm the same age and have spent my whole life here but I find any memories from before 2009 are super fuzzy and I can never remember how anything looked, I found it quite sad that I couldn't remember the setting to most of my favorite childhood memories but this helped clear it up a lot, I really appreciate it 🙌
Thank you. I lived in Durham Street North in 2010 and 2011. It’s sad that so much of architectural merit has gone but much of the city was bleak. The new buildings seem clean and beautifully designed. I must come back.
This brought back so many memories, thank you. I hardly ever go to the central city now... wish there was a book of then and now so you could tour the city.
so interesting to see how much its changed, i was to young to remember what the CBD looked like before the quake, now it just looks amazing, the new world coming through, sad to see the Cathedral still in the same state it was 11 years ago
I think they have done a great job on the rebuild. However the soul is gone. I live in Dunedin and if we lost all our old buildings it would be heart breaking.
Moorhouse Ave was always ugly. Any improvement should be of benefit. I lived in old Christchurch for a while and have good memories of it. Modern Christchurch is beginning to take shape nicely. Certainly I would like to bring Cathedral Square and some of the other older buildings like the Catholic Cathedral on Barbadoes St and Cranmer Courts from before earthquakes through to 2022 Christchurch, but the show must go on.
I remember going in the smaller building next to it like 15 years ago to pick up an MP3 player I bought on TradeMe. It was a small cramped office type building from memory. It's funny though. I was 23 when the earthquake happened and had walked those old streets so much but yet now I couldn't tell ya half of what was there. I'd forgotten about Boogie Nights but always remember mad lines outside Shooters

Town feels so much more modern now... wow
I was in my last year of high school when it happened. I don’t actually remember much of town.
I loved the old city 😿
So much better then than it is now.

It was such a beautiful city, sucks it was totally destroyed.

ive been in the building at 11:21, time is completely frozen inside, old newspapers and timetables. one whole floor is burnt to a crisp too
