- Unedited, high definition video of Christchurch city centre recorded some months before the 2011 earthquake.
I had the pleasure of spending a day in Christchurch and enjoyed the European feeling of the city as well as the climate and the city centre's relaxing character. It was a pleasant place to be.
Since the quake, however, many of the buildings are gone and I feel that the quake took a lot of Christchurch's character with it. Rebuilding works are ongoing and I hope it can soon return to its former glory.
Whenever I come across videos like these it always make me a lil sad because I have lived in Christchurch my whole life and I was 10 when the earthquakes happened and over time I forgot what the city actually looked like before the earthquakes. Thank you for the great video.
I left NZ before the quakes and felt out of sorts when I first came home in late 2011 and barely recognized what street in the CBD I was on. But I haven't been back in almost ten years, so I have the opposite. I remember what it was, not what it has become. I miss home!
Excellent shot of the Night 'n Day Foodstore where I used to work @ 3:34 till 3:47. Which used to be the National Bank; this site now has Mr Sergio's located thereat. From 6:39 till 6:54 has shots of The Strip; with associated bars which were excellent to dine at!!
Lovely tour. :-) Thank you for preserving pre-damage Christchurch at least in this footage. Hopefully the reconstruction will be able to renew at least some of the historical buildings.
Very nice. Thank you for this
Got to love the early 2010s feel. Very nostalgic and saddening.
In some ways the infrastructure of the city has benefited after the rebuild from the devastating Christchurch earthquakes; it looks more modern now
It looks generic, just cubic concrete buildings and carparks. Far less trees in the CBD now it seems too, almost feels depressing these days.
