This is an amazing bit of restoration as well as electrifying the Brat. Nicely done! 1st gear is for rock crawling or going up the side of a hill. Heck, if the tranny is fit, maybe the Brat is Moab-capable on a good set of off-road tires! I’m sure folks have tried with older Subbies and their gas motors. The Hyper-9 and 1st gear, who knows. Fun to try at the very least!
James, enjoyed meeting you today and talking about the "car" today in Hutto. Looking forward to seeing the last video, though I know it's road worthy 'cause you drove it there. Best to you and the gang, your younger helpers and the giggling girls!
I miss my Brat so much in 81' Dad picked up an a new 80' that was sitting there .. had it for 25 years before the floor pans fell out .. I wish I had kept it but then I didn have the tools/skills needed to fix it ..
I rarely see any other first gen brats on the internet or on the road! Thank you for thinking outside the box with this motor swap. I may have to electrify my 78 Brat?
FYI, you can swap over Toyota 6 lug rims, 2 bolts line right up. You can either drill the rims for the remaining holes, or drill our the hub for the remaining 4 holes for the rims. This will allow many more options.
@@dissrepair Wow, that's some serious power pack(s) for such a small car! I'll bet you get massive range, when it is all dialled in and still retaining the transmission, leaving it in higher gears on the highway, I'll bet you can get massive ranges! Which gearbox is it? The spinning tires was that just the front or all four when you did that? haha
Great Job guys! Really liked how you managed to installing the batteries where it does not take away from the car's original design space.

Congratulations guys! So much hard work and frustration, but so much fun! Great work!

Car/truck- who's keeping track?

Lucky that we found a rust free one
That's freaking awesome. I want a Brat but no right hand. That's rad. -Brian Morris

I want to try this with my 2005 Forrester XT.
I've been waiting for this, thank you!
Thanks . The end is worth watching !
Excellent job guy's!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey are you going to make a compilation video of how to do this? I am very interested in preserving my BRAT and would like to do this swap.
Our next video will be performance testing. Then I am going to put together a wrap up compilation video
That’s so damn awesome! I was going to ask if the brakes required any upgrades at all but apparently not.
Actually once we enable the regenerative braking it’ll need even less braking capability.
@@dissrepair I did not think of that. I’ve been using engine braking to help me stop. Regen is genius!
Hi, would be interested in the overall cost of the conversion? And would like to know if the same conversion process could be applied to the Baja?
😊😊😊 love it.. so cool
Thank you !!
Spinning all four in second gear?? Holy crap
I want to do this so much!!!!!
I have a 2009 Mercedes r class 320cdi bluetec that can get converted? 🌞
Now you can sneak up on deer, and your wife won't know when you got home from drinking with the boys
😂 never thought of that
What kind of range are you getting with the 5 modules?
We haven’t had enough road testing yet to know for sure . The next video we plan some performance testing. Stay tuned .
@@dissrepair awesome thanks y'all
Did you have to have the front subframe off to fit the motor?
We removed the subframe only to clean it all up and paint the engine compartment. Other than that, no need to remove the cross member.
no boxer rumble :(
good work though!
I might need a wave file of boxer noise to upload so we can make some noises!
@@dissrepair there is a device that goes with the rpm... i gotta find it again..
@@dissrepair XLR8 app for android, check it out on youtube...
Where did you get the adaptor plate from?
We custom fabricated it for this application
Is it a straight DC setup thus no regenerative braking?
How many kWh does it have?
Love it :)
Remarkably this an AC motor and yes it will have regen. 26.5 KWh. Thanks for watching and your question.

What is the single charger milage it gives??
100 miles is the max range with the 5 Tesla modules
Is this something you can do for someone else?
Yes absolutely. Contact us @ flashdrivemotors.com we’d love to hear from you.
