That practice legitimately paid off- Notice how almost all the speedrunning techniques Cherry had gotten on his first try he couldn't do in the actual run, where Doug was able to be consistent with what he knew even if he couldn't do every trick.
Man literally foretold his own win and explained exactly why and how he would win and got it 100% right

Could be wrong but I think they develop a tool assist AI to run through the game and whatever tricks they do the speed ruined goes to see if it’s possible

SPOILERS This is such a perfect of example of work and dedication v Raw talent. Doug was awful while training, couldn't complete the simplest of strats meanwhile cherry was perfecting everything, getting hard strats excellent first try. Difference was, Doug did them many times perfecting his craft and learning the tactics and why they work while Cherry just moved on to beat the game.
Doug won by almost 10 minutes in the end. You can't possibly script this

It's funny how during the actual run, Cherry made almost all the same mistakes Doug did when practicing, and Doug did as well as Cherry had during practice
Wow, Ive never tried it but learning BLJ in like ten minutes is actually insane, I figured it took most people hours and hours of practice to even succeed occasionally. Serioualy, for one of the most speed-runned games of all time, top 1000 on first try is unbelievable
1:40 that very well might be a problem with the emulator. All controller sticks have a little bit of give. Devs have to implement a stick deadzone in code to prevent this
He probably used it for non emulated games and that's how he knows
You can set deadzones in most emulators
Doug being almost sub 30 first try with only 3 hours of practice is actually scarily impressive

Whether you do it, Doug, or somebody else does, I would like to request a video titled "The face of a speedrunner" with nothing but your reactions to your own successful and failed attempts in this video.
This was easily my favorite stream that I ever witnessed live, tensions were so high while you were trying to get your controller working. Thanks for putting this on TH-cam, I can finally relive the excitement.

Went how I expected. Doug struggles in trial and error, but his ability to recall what was learned during the trial and error period has been tried and tested over many, many, many hours solving problems that nobody has.
