    I'm going to add my 2 cents. For 1 year I've struggled to get my 1.3 golf MK1 Citi to run properly. I've replaced carburettor, fuel pump, fuel lines, replaced the tank, fuel sending unit, fuel hoses, petrol filters, fuel separator I even put a t piece just like in the video with a reducer nothing worked. So this is what I found. The mechanical fuel pump pressure is to low to pump fuel with all the connections and fuel separator. Yes t piece does increase a bit of fuel pressure but still not enough. So the 2 options you can do. Number 1 add a low pressure electronic fuel pump to help the mechanical fuel pump then you will have no issues whatsoever. High pressure pump will kill you spark plugs and over fuel the carburettor. Number 2 go straight to fuel injection but be prepared to dig deep into the pockets very expensive to do. In my experience add a low pressure electronic fuel pump to help the mechanical pump to get the right amount of fuel to the carburettor.

    As far as the vapour separator goes, I have moved it away from the egnine using a bracket that I made. I replaced it and the car still had fuel starvation only when hot. I discovered petrol boiling in the separator. Up here in Gauteng, our petrol has some ethanol in it that lowers the boiling point. When I pulled off the outlet when the symptom appeared, I could hear it boil. When I moved it away and the problem stopped. My engine was at the normal 80 deg C.

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy
      @pjs-golfmk1-diy  ปีที่แล้ว

      The restrictor in the return line ensures that only a certain amount of fuel runs back to the tank..if it was just free flow you will not have enough fuel pressure to your carb and engine will cut out or jerk at higher speeds.you must have a restrictor ..Try smaller spares shops or second hand scrap yards .I don't think Goldwagen stocks these

      Question: nearing the end of a long drive (45km) our Chico Mk1 begins jerking @ 100-130km/h & thus loses speed. We slow down and it travels fine until we have to go uphill around 40-80km/h (on this long distance) and then it starts jerking again.

      @@hyperiondig fuel separator is a reservoir which holds fuel ready to be used by the carb...it also removes bubbles and vapour from the fuel before it reaches the carb.....some believe it's not necessary ,....... it has its disadvantages too...for example, it tends to get hot ,causing the fuel to boil as it's too close to the engine.,and that can cause jerking and fuel starvation etc,and they can also become clogged up over time with rust particles etc...so good to change it from time to time..

    • @pjs-golfmk1-diy
      @pjs-golfmk1-diy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well the whole video is focused around removing or identifying any form of blockage which can cause fuel starvation. So, when we remove the fuel sender our intention is to determine if the fuel pick up is blocked, and that I have indicated in the pic of the fuel sender, where I specifically made a note in the pic, that you need to clean the fuel pick up pipe. Once I've done this the car starts and off I go UNTIL the next bit of congestion where the car is crawling along and BAM, Daar vrek die ding!! Open bonnet... repeat .... petrol tastes K@K! • @pjs-golfmk1-diy
      @pjs-golfmk1-diy  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Its because the high temp is causing the fuel literaly to boil in the separator.. Because it's very close to the engine. Some guys have found a way to put the separator away from the engine.., like at the end of the cylinder head, but u will need to make a bracket to make it fit. Or just go the route of the t piece. Do you have fuel starvation symptoms... Does the car cut out and jerk?.. If it is, check how strong the flow of fuel is from the pump,by taking off the pipe running into the carb.it should give spurts of fuel ...not a gentle trickle.Your pump may be new ,but it could just be bad quality..

      @@hadleypetersen8873 the petrol filter is not meant to fill up while the engine is running ... The suction of the fuel pump does not allow the fuel to settle in the filter... its just supposed to flow through the filter. The most important thing is if you have nice strong Spurts of fuel coming out of the pipe going into the carb.. Have you checked on that yet?. In my latest video I talk more about this.
