Yeah for real, it's disappointing stuff like this doesn't exist anymore. It's wild how all the music played thru to the starting lineups is iconic now.
It didn't even feel like the Nuggets played THAT badly, but then you looked up, and they were down 15 in the 2nd quarter. That's how quick that '87 team could pull away.
I grew up in long beach and i wasnt a lakers fan, im a sixers fan. For some reason this intro is emotional 😢 to me. Maybe its because it reminds me of innocent times of being a teen
I too grew up in North Long Beach a big, big Laker fan who didn't miss a game....I was 16 when this game was played....I get extremely emotional watching this.....
From 1984-1988, when the Lakers and Nuggets played- it was a trackmeat! The Nuggets led the NBA in scoring during those years and just loved to force the pace, which was right in the Lakers wheelhouse! Regularly, the Lakers would have games where they scored 70+ points against the Nuggets in the 1st-half, and had a couple of games where they scored 80+! The difference between the two teams was, the Nuggets had a terrible defense, whereas Lake Show had a championship defense!
This NPZ dude is somethin else, man. He's the ONLY Laker uploader who gives us this kind of rarity in this kind of clarity. He's the DUDE!!1 He's a weird dude, but he's a COOL dude.
@@nonplayerzealot4 I don't want to spoil your joy, but actually this version is quite common. For instance, I got it seven or eight years ago. It also includes a big interview with Pat Riley - I wonder if you have it.
@@V284 You could be right, I got it more than 8 yrs ago. I first got the alt non Chick vers and then this one. It's the only version of this on on YT rite? I'll change the title.
@@nonplayerzealot4 Could I ask you a question? In what year you started to record NBA games? Actually I would like to know wthether you have something rare from the golden Lakers seasons (1984/1985 and 1986/1987) - I have a plenty of those videos (although I am a sports journalist, not a genuine collector) and definitely could offer you some interesting matches. For example, do you need these ones? Bulls vs Lakers (2nd December 1984) Lakers vs Rockets (5th February 1985, TBS) Suns vs Lakers (31st March 1985) Nuggets vs Lakers (9th April 1985)
Referee Joey Crawford when he had hair! The Nugs were just outclassed. Alex "Flick" English had 25 pts, 6 asts and 5 rbds. Mo Martin had 18 pts, 2 asts and 3 rbds. Fat Lever had 13 pts, 4 asts, 5 rbds and 4 steals. But that was about it. Magic had 16 pts, 14 asts and 7 rbds. Big Game James had 22 pts, 7 asts, 3 rbds and 3 blocks. Byron had 25 pts, 7 asts, 4 rbds, a steal and a block. AC had 18 pts, 1 ast and 10 boards. Kareem was the only starter to score in single digits with 9 pts, 5 asts, 6 rbds, 5 blocks and a steal in only 25 minutes. A well-balanced attack from Coach Riley's most well-oiled team. Total domination. This game was in the refrigerator at halftime.
We did get a very weak Western lot in 87, but not totally our fault because SEA had a big upset of Dallas, which would've made for a more competitive CFs (maybe). Tho they were rollin so well at that right time, maybe we take out the Mavs in 4-5. But the Nuggs were trash. Lakers still appropriately stomped em 3x as they should have at least.
I remember everyone being legit offended when Doug Moe came out before the series and said “We got no shot to beat the Lakers” but he wasn’t wrong. They won 28 fewer games during the season than L.A. and they were never in any of these games.
NPZ do you recall why they switched from Keith Erickson to Stu Lantz? I think it was around 88. I can’t recall why? kE had done color for many years. Was he just over it?
Yes, Keith simply wanted to retire and I remember that mentioned at least a couple times in games around that time. Guys giving up that spot is a rare thing if you consider Stu's been in there since 87/88, but Keith had enough, I suppose. And had enough money.
That intro 0:00-1:00 brings me back to my childhood. Great memories of watching the "Showtime" Lakers on Channel 9 in Los Angeles.
Seriously

No doubt!
Chick’s clarity, focus, humor, and his pure knowledge of basketball keeps me coming back for more. Thanks very much NPZ. 🇺🇸

Alex English had one of the sweetest shots.
AC played with Shaq and Kobe...Ironman
The lakers push the ball after made baskets like no team in history

Nobody could call a game like Chick Hearn. Remember it's a simulcast.
PBP: Chick Hearn.
Color: Keith Erickson
Classic...I remember the following year when they added in Magic's Baby Hook over the Celtics to the intro.
The Lakers had too many weapons.

It’s not the entire match. Shame.😊
Bro, it's 40 minutes of vintage Chick and you're whining because we don't have all the filler??? You put yourself in the popcorn machine.
It’s really annoying not to have the opportunity to watch the full match. Otherwise is boring.
