Dunno why a handful of my vids evaded the NBA Broadband block. I wasn't banned, obv, and I can still see my own vids, but they're blocked worldwide for everyone else. Sucks, but even in 2010, I knew one day it would happen out of the blue and it did. Got no warnings, nada. Never monetized anything since I began in 2008, either.
As much as Pau used to piss me off with his soft, underwhelming play at times, he was as close to a perfect supporting star for Kobe as could possibly be. He was a classic #2 and I genuinely mean that with the utmost respect. He was Kevin McHale to Kobe’s Larry Bird. You could pretty much pencil in an efficient 19 and 10 a night from Pau. On a sidenote, people always look back at Kevin Durant, Russell Westbrook and James harden and wonder how they weren’t able to win a championship while they were together, but the 3 years they were in the playoffs together they lost to teams led by Kobe Bryant (2010), Dirk Nowitzki (2011) and perhaps the first “super team” led by LeBron with D Wade (2012) They lost to teams featuring 4 all-time greats still in there prime.
plus, harden didn't become the player he is today until he left okc for houston so who knows if he still would have been putting up 30+ a game had he stayed alongside durant and westbrook agree with you about pau. still wish we knew what happened in those '11 playoffs. he was really never the same player with the lakers after that
@@Ducksrule123 True, but tbh most the of the Lakers were burnt out making you 3 straight finals in 2008-2010, and ran out of gas in 2011 vs Dallas. Same thing happened vs the Spurs in 2003 after 3 peating 2000-2002. About Pau btw, as much he can be soft at times, at least he toughen up after the 08 finals lost and was willing to suck it up and play Center when Bynum was injured. Anthony Davis’s refusal to play center and his reliance on jumpers make Pau Gasol’s offensive skill set look like Hakeem in comparision.
We don't win anything without Gasol. And he should've been the 2010 Finals MVP. Perfect compliment to Kobe...allowed Kobe to chuck, stayed efficient, got others involved, and was professional enough to endure Kobe's often hypocritical criticisms. Yeah, I said all of it. RIP, but basketball wise, he gets all this credit for being high IQ and would make some of the dumbest decisions with shot selection or gambling on defense or trying to be fancy with his dribble or passing, leading to turnovers. But wanted to excoriate everyone else ANYTIME they did it themselves. The true Lakers advantage from 2008 to 2010 was the size of Gasol, Odom, and Bynum. They just pummeled most teams, and did it efficiently (52.7% combined shooting on 32.6 shots in 2010). When Kobe was anywhere near on his game (ala vs Phoenix in the '10 WCF), you couldn't beat the Lakers.
Yes, his 15-30 record in the playoffs without Kobe really shows why he is one of the great underappreciated superstars in NBA history. Like you said, didn't gamble with the ball like Kobe (1 turnover less per game), got others involved unlike Kobe (averaged about half as many assists) and always showed up in the biggest moments (except for the entirety of 2008 WCF and a dozen other times). A road warrior as well. The fact that Kobe averaged 14 more points per game on the road during their 08-10 run was just a fluke. And thank you for bringing up Bynum's name as well. Really helps any persuasive basketball argument.
Manu, I see no lies (Altho I waffle on the 2010 FMVP myself). Pau would maybe once per year mention, in a passive-aggressive but still classy way, that he should prob be getting more shots. And it’s hard to argue with him - I’ve said to NPZ before they should’ve prob had him shooting 2-3 more times each game during his glory days. But that just showed why he was a great second fiddle to the Mamba
The true advantage of the 2008-10 Lakers in the post-season was the 2-man game of Kobe and Pau. Whenever Odom decided to show up as a third banana, they were unbeatable. Bynum was an utter non factor.
