@@CourtCloud For a 7 Footer I would even say he was lightning fast in his early days compared to all the other tall guys. And when he was young he could jump through the roof. Just ask Rick Pitino who worked him out before the Draft. Dirk just decided to not play above the rim, which clearly prolonged his career. And he never was a good blocker (not because he couldnt jump) but because he never had the right feel and timing on the defensive end. But believe me, when he was young, he was way more athletic than people give him credit for. But there was one weakness he always had: he never had good lateral speed.. even in his younger days.
@@CourtCloudwhat a shitty take 😂 everyone here in this chat says the opposite of your statement. He was way more athletic than other power fowards. Don’t think you have been covered the nba in the 2000‘s. Don’t try to get attention on a topic you have no clue
Dirk in his first 7 or 8 years was the fastest tall player in the league (at least on offense). There are a lot of people who only started paying attention to him after he won the title in 2011 when he had already changed his game.
Dirk Nowitzki is often mischaracterized as an unathletic NBA player, especially when compared to other elite athletes in the league. However, this perception overlooks the unique blend of physical attributes and skills that made him one of the most effective and versatile players in NBA history. Firstly, athleticism in basketball is not solely defined by explosive speed or high-flying dunks. It also includes balance, coordination, agility, and endurance-all areas where Nowitzki excelled. His 7-foot frame combined with exceptional footwork and agility allowed him to be a matchup nightmare on offense. He was able to move fluidly on the court, navigate around defenders, and create his own shot, often against faster and more physically imposing opponents.
I don't know if this applies here, but I experienced similar misconceptions in combat sports. People call athletes "more explosive" or "faster" when they actually aren't any more explosive or faster than taller opponents. A smaller person running at the same speed just looks faster, because they need more steps. In a similar sense the same jump looks more impressive if its a smaller person doing it.
@@BennoSattler it's far more likely that this is just another example of either Americans being stupid or TH-camrs not doing the minimum amount of research.

Unathletic, hell no ! you are either too young or completely ignorant my friend...
The title of your video exposes you either as a 20 year old or someone who does know little about Dirk. As a young guy he was no where near “non athletic”. He was special, also athletically at that size. He moved quickly, was agile for his size. Don’t reduce him to his later years
Thanks for sharing bruv. Never knew they were 2 games up in 06 against the heat. Men! That was mad fuel for 2011. Looking at the line up, they had no hope against the 2011 heat who cud have beat Dirk n done a 3 peat. But dirk cut it short to 2 peat, cos 2011 was revenge for 06. So no matter what, he was going to beat them this time, & I'm indeed happy for him. That he accomplished his mission eventually. Whilst White Chocolate of the heat got his one n only ring in 06. Dirk had to come back n get his 1st n only ring in 2011. Proud of him men!!!!
I'm somehow missing the fact that he agreed to get paid less so that his team had the money to bring in players that allowed them to run for a championship. And I recall comments that cited the voices from back then that he was 'soft' after the championship ;-)
I feel that Dirk was quite athletic and a great dunker in his younger playing days, and as he got older he adapted his playing style accordingly. Which ... speaks volumes of his longevity. Jokic also fits the mold of a very skillful player who foregoes atheticism. Also reminds me of Arvydas Sabonis, whom NBA fans saw play well past his physical prime, but was nevertheless an outstanding center with surreal passing & shooting skills.
Dirk‘s fadeway was an incredibly athletic skill. Not to mention all the fast pace offense you show while introducing the „NBA‘s Most Unathletic Player“.
Dirk Novitzky is a legend of basketball in the USA and Europe. I was very happy when I saw him supporting and watching the baketball games of German female and male players at the Paris Olympics. 😊
The title couldn’t be any more misleading. You clearly saw Dirk from 2013 until he retired. Prime Dirk was faster and agile than most big men in the league. Do your homework.
The music is supreme, just like Dirk! He is a legend. By far the best basketball player in Germany. I think he is one of the most famous athletes here as well.
And today a lot of the greatest players use the one-legged fadeaway in some games. look at durant for example. using it a lot. so proud of my fellow german. nowitzki is with michael schumacher the greatest german athlete of all time. as a die hard celtics fan i would never ever wear some others teams merch besides nowitzki jerseys.
Dirk really is a great guy. As a person and human being, not just as a basketball player. Unfortunately, his career has taken a toll on him, a couple of years ago I heard him say that these days, he's happy when his knees allow him to play a little soccer with his young son.
