    You could remove that forearm and soak the receiver in a bucket of rust remover for a coupe days. Brush the inside of the receiver and then soak the internals with Ballisol let sit again brush again then blow out the receivr with compressed . Oh plug the receiver end of barrel spray Ballistol in barrel fill
    it up. Let sit verticaly overnight, next day the with your rod and brush pump down and up be real carefull with the crown not to damage it. Dump Ballistol
    out using patches and rod stroke them until till the patch comes out clean. Reasemble and give it some trigger time BTW good looking piece best shooter
    of all the winchesters!
    Good Job

    Did you order a box of 38/40 "Bullets", or a box of 38/40 Cartridges...?? If you just ordered the bullets, you will need cases, primers, and powder.... just wondering

    Go out and get a can of Kroil. It comes in an orange can. Absolutely the best penetrating oil out there. Take an old coffee can and pour kroil up to the top in it. Soak the barreled action in it over night. Wipe off all the the excess from the screws and receiver and that should do it. If not carefully apply heat to the screws

    Hi, try Kroil on that screw. If that doesn't work, I've had good luck putting a soldering iron on the screw to heat it up. It will isolate the heat and not damage the bluing on the rest of the receiver.

    Have you tried to release the spring pressure from the screw that holds the hhammer and the trigger mechanism?

  • @budyoung9372
    @budyoung9372 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Before attemting to remove the mainspring screw be sure the strain screw is backed off, (located just forward of the mainspring screw) then clamp down on the rearward portion of the mainspring just aft of the screw head over the rear of the tang, vice grips work well here but take care not to scratch the tang. this will remove all spring preasure off the mainspring screw. Re-install in the same manner.
    This procedure will prevent stripping the the first few threads of said screw.

    you are as good as any gunsmith I know of. I service explosive powered nail guns in my job and pretty much learning how means takeing it apart and learning on the way. I just bought an 1892 .32-20 and i wanted to see if there was any info on them on the net and you are a champion in my books, don't let lack of knowledge hold you back, the more you fiddle with something the more you learn. great video and i'm only half way through!

    if you get a torch and heat it up until it is blood red let it cool off about 5 minutes and it should come out. heat up both ends. i am welder for 30 years and that is how i would do that.

    I appreciate your patients with that screw, I could not wait, or take it to a gunsmith to do what I could do. There is concentrated heat, and specialty impact drivers , and then my brothers philosophy, "if it's stuck , force it, if it breaks , it needed replaced anyway. Great old rifle and great video. I obviously needed to know something you already knew.

    Hello, my name is Lionel and I inherited my Grandfather's gun a Winchester 44-40
    model 1892 and according to it's serial no. 36....... it was made in 1905. It is in really good condition, ( original ), and I have been firing it and have cleaned the barrel.no rust, operates great. Here's one thing though, I can only put 13 bullets in the tube and one in the chamber. Are the bullets today a little bit bigger? Is it suppose to hold 15 in the tube? Also, could you tell me the approx. value?

    can you do a video on complete disassembly and assembly of your Rossi 92? I tore mine down about 3 months ago, had to go out of state the next day. and when I got back couldn't remember what I did and still have no idea how to put it back together. I can't find any videos on a 92 and I don't want to pay $40 for a gunsmith to put it back together for me

    Apply heat by using a cherry red punch or bar. Apply to thread side, add some penetrate oil, let sit, till cool. Repeat till it comes out easily. May take a few tries. Also tap a proper fitting screw driver a couple taps while having a bit of pressure in torque.

  • @LoganHerbert
    @LoganHerbert 12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Also if you take the screws out on the front of the fore grip you can take the fore grip and mag tube out, thats about as far as i got with mine. was scared to mes with the buttstock but you gave me confidence. so i hope that helps a bit

    Since this is 2012, I assume by now you have learned what an impact driver is (about $20.00) and that screw would be out in 15 seconds

      Those screws weld themselves in the receiver. Very hard to take out, and with age, they are very brittle.

    In addition, the gun has a 44 W.C.F on it, and unlike yours I have an octagon barrel .
    I also have a 10 Gauge double barrel Lefever Arms co. ( Damascus ) . My Father shot it approx. 1953, but I never have, he said it 'bucks like a mule' , he passed in 1987, and I don't know what a mule bucks like. I'm thinking of getting some 10Gauge shells and fining out. Thank-you for your time Lionel N. Cross Chatham ON ,Canadada

    do you know the value of winchster model 1892 serial #785278 calibur 25-20WCF in good condition.

    @whiterook85  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hello Lionel, Hard to say how much it is worth. If you’re close to a bookstore check out the Blue Book of Gun Values. A good source for letting you know the approximate value, one thing you have a winner with the 44-40 caliber, you can add +25% to the value. The 44-40 is a large cartridge so the 13+1 sounds right. Enjoy the rifle!

    We definitely need a video on a complete disassembly and reassembly of the 92. I am stuck on the sequence of the reassembly...Thanks

    Never shot a 10 gauge either, I would think your Father's description of kicking like a mule is right with buckshot or slugs. Regular birdshot like number 8 shouldn't be too bad for you. Start with that then decide if you want to try the stronger kicking shells. Check the description for the video for a link to Guns International, should give you an idea of how much that Winchester is worth. The prices are a bit high, but will get you close. Good luck, and thanks for checking out the video.

    Great presentation!…I just disassembled a model 94 that was gunked solid, even the screws were frozen so in order to loosen them I spot heat them with a propane torch and using a metal screwdriver I gave the head a sharp rap and they were easily removed.

    Hello, that is hard to say without knowing a few more things about it, round or octagonal barrel, is it a takedown etc. It was manufactured in 1915. Do a couple things, if you’re close to a bookstore check out the Blue Book of Gun Values. I have a link in the Description section of the video (Guns International). You can go to that web site to compare yours to the ones on the pages that are similar. The prices are high I think, but it gives you an idea. Thanks for watching and good luck!

    @jeffnles1, thanks for the tip and the instructions you posted on the channel. I will give that a try, before I try some of the other suggestions, this one seems a little less forceful than the impact driver.
