Thank you very much Pratik for upbringing this issue to the bigger level, many so called tech TH-camrs aren't even considering to talk about these issues that are customers facing nowadays
lol what? geekly ranjit was at forefront on calling out companies for this issues around 2 years back when it was started along with motherboard replacement scam by Xiaomi, Scamsung etc where was your para-social youtubers then? Indian youtuber tech community is as unethical and sheet as indian journalism is... filled with nothing but clickbaits and embarrassment while sinking in paid reviews money.
Thank you so much for bringing light on this issue. I have a Samsung galaxy S20 plus. Before even 6 months after buying, the screen suddenly switched off while I had the phone in my hands after a software update and there was a green line on it. Even when I went to my local Samsung Service Centre they denied my claim that it didn't get physically damaged and put the blame on me that I was the one who had damaged it and they did not fix it even when I still had the warranty. After a couple weeks another line had appeared. I went on Samsung's website and under the S20 plus topic there was nothing but complaints about the exact issue I have. Samsung had not responded to any of them and acted like they didn't exist. I went on youtube that same day to search up if any youtubers were talking about it but alas there was only one person and he said that youtube had shadow banned his channel because he informs people of these type of issues that tech companies just slip under the rug. Again thank you for making a video about this.
@ TechWiser I bought a One Plus 9Pro (Re-newed) on Amazon in September 2022. Kept it safe in a Spigen case - no major drops. Few weeks ago one green line suddenly appeared ,a few days later one more. Now I wonder how long more before it becomes unusable. Sadly no official service providers here .
Recently, a TH-camr by the name of @a2dchannel uploaded a video in which he mentioned that 'most phones experience heating issues during software updates,' and as a result, our displays may exhibit green lines. In the video, he shows the connection between the display and the motherboard, resembling ribbon-like lines. In some cases, these cables are soldered to the motherboard, and excessive heat can lead to the detachment of the soldered wires, potentially causing the green line issue.
Actually the reason for this issue has been found. Yes it is an hardware issue, not software and it has do with the display connector ribbon cable. Apparently these ribbons are soldered to the display using some adhesive which when heated causes the contacts to fail, thus lines occur on the display. The reason it happens after a software update in most cases is because during a software update a phone is pushed to its limit in installing the update and this produces a lot of heat. Also it is more likely that the users charge their phones during the update which in turn produces more heat! All these heat results in the adhesive to loosen and eventually these lines occur. For reference: A Tamil TH-cam channel called "A2D" has broken down this issue more elaborately.
@@Paralianpoet there is a solution that only works 50 percent of the time... You need to remove the display and slightly apply heat over the display connector ribbon with a heat gun where the line exists... It might fix the issue or make it worse! The only other solution is to get your display changed free of cost at the authorised service center!
A software update might change the power throughout to the displays. The software regulates the voltage and any small change may cause such green lines popping up.
To avoid green line issue, just don't buy any smartphone with oled or amoled display. This issue is not related to smartphone brand or software updates, most of the time this happens after update on oled or amoled screen phones due to excessive heat. You may not realise but your phone gets way more hotter during update than average usage. This is still just a speculation, but this happens only in oled and amoled displays.
Today I got this green line on Samsung galaxy M52 which is now 3 years old, The phone was on charging And when I disconnected it for use I saw green line, and phone was hot. There is no software update I did.
Rarely established youtube channels speak about this issue. This might be one of the best videos on this issue.. Great!! Bravo.. Proud to be a TechWiser Fan! ❤️
Thankyou for bringing the major issue public. We have to strongly report to these brands.... It's horrifying. People save every penny to get their dream phone and boom it end up issues like this for no reason is a sad and worst thing one could experience.
I don't want to and can't spend 800-1000 dollars each year changing phones. I couldn’t even use samsung s21 for two years and it already has 8 lines on it, without any physical damage. This is very frustrating. I'd rather not use phones at all at this point
I recently encountered a similar problem with my Realme X7 Max. When I posted about the issue on Twitter and tagged Realme customer support, they refused to acknowledge that the green line problem was their responsibility. This was really frustrating, and over time, I noticed that my screen pixels began to deteriorate. Realme is also unwilling to provide a free repair for my phone. It's frustrating to think about paying for the repair when the issue isn't my fault. Now, my phone is essentially unusable and has become nothing more than a paperweight. This is pathetic.

@@itmeanoop at least company should repair it for free of cost!! Will never buy a Realme phone again. At least OnePlus and other brands accepting the fact that the problem that customers facing came from there side and repairing free of cost. What a shame on Realme!!
As geekyranjit mentioned in one of his Q&A this is mp a Quality control issue of oled panels during covid times due to many reasons as every industry was affected at that time, which is plausible. Hope that as the situation is normal now it won't happen in newer phone models, in the coming years.
@hellsingXXX untrue, the older iPhones and the Pro iPhones are not made in India, yet go through the same issues. Also most of the displays are made in Korea or China anyway so in the end the place where it gets assembled usually doesn't matter.
I have one plus 5T that has same problem, which I have ignored the issue as I have replaced the damaged screen from local shop. Now I know it's a common problem
Recently faced this issue with my Samsung S23 which is just 6 months old. The service center refuses to replace the screen under warranty inspite of having zero scratches and absolute perfect condition. The customer care even went to the extent of telling me that they wouldn't be responsible if the screen breaks during product examination and that breakage also would not be their fault - I will have to pay for it. Have been following up with customer care guys since a week without any progress :/ Thanks for making a video on this!
Samsung is very disgusting in this case, the know it's their issue but their service center will first claim it is due to usage or water damage, worse they will bend the phone's back to make it void of warranty if you left the phone to them without recording the whole process. If the service staff ask you to left your phone better record the process and took image of the phone from all side to protect yourself.
@@CODgaming95no, it's not. I got a green line on my OnePlus a few months ago, they made me send the device to Poland, telling me they'll replace it for free, and then sent it back to me without fixing it even if I paid, telling me there's a screen shortage for my device However, they still sell screen replacements for my device on their official website.
Brands do not want to take responsibility. I have a Samsung s 20 plus and I got a green line after a software update. after visiting the service centre the person told me that they could not repair my device for free because it had scratches. I do not know how the brand expects the device to be brand new without any scratches after 2 to 3 years of usage. I always keep my device in a case and have tempered glass installed. I have just started to make a video whenever a software update comes. I had to pay close to 18K to get it repaired. PR and originality are two very different things.
Bro, you could've got it done for free. Should have first complained to Samsung customer care... Then go to service center and say 'Customer care guys said this will be done for free'. Ho jata fix free main.
My Samsung S20+ screen started flickering and became green/white. They denied the replacement saying it has water damage which was obviously not the case. Finally I got flex bonding done from a repair shop in Delhi and the issue got solved. I had emailed TW long back to make a video on this issue.
Yes all brands are making us fool. They are not providing charges. Intention behind is that Indian buyers should buy new phone every year for one or other reason. Because India is huge market for mobiles. Indian should not change mobile at least for 3-4 years. We should not buy mobile without charger. Take any brand cost is high compare to Mobile sold in other countries.
For people like us who resort to importing phone, this is a sort of huge issue. of course we have no service center in our country, we have to ship the device to China for repair. I'm kinda scared of issue rn but yea hopefully this can be resolved.

Factory stock software is stable and tested inside labs, you might not want to update the phone out of the box and wait some time for the issue to resolve. Bet with newer updates will counter this problem sooner.
I personally feel this is a sinister plot. Android brands are doing this to force its customers upgrade to newer phones. Apple also made a similar manoeuvre by messing with the battery life; this marketing ploy resulted in a lawsuit and Apple ended up paying its clients. Android phone users experiencing such issues after software updates should sue the companies.
But Why All of them do it at the same time? too do they joined together on this case? lol , i think this probably due to manufactor cuz most of these brand buy display from samsung.
the reason for these green light issue is because of the overheating during software update or leaving the phone under the sun for a while which melts down the connecting seal in display. you can learn more this from a channel known as A2D. in one of his recent videos he talks about the indepth reason behind it
If that's the case a phone heats quite a lot during gaming. Why doesn't continuous gaming change that?? If software update is the core reason, it should probably happen with most phones going through the update process right?
@@pratikrai6407 yeah dude but in the case of continuous gaming you may not see the effect then and there maybe after a while also it can happen right? it could have melted the seal but not full so while using it regularly causing minor heating at that time you might see it
More then software updates, phone heats when playing games and using cameras, so it should happen mostly when playing or clicking pictures. And if like he is saying adhesive is the problem, even IPS panels should also have the same issue, but they dont have.
@@heavenlyxtacyit happens primarily to people who play games or just use their phones on a hotter temperature areas. I have seen this issue in OLED and I had this issue with my S22+. Thankfully I did get a free repair from Samsung. MY personal guess will be something related to the architecture of the OLED screen as this being a software issue is not something which seems probable.

A software update can't alter the voltage passing throught the LEDs. These are just rumours spreading. The real issues are with the display hardware, like when the display heats up more (even during software update), there is a chance of this happening if its a faulty display.
@@1234567rek you didn’t get the sarcasm. I said instead of those green lines like one plus, the whole display goes green…implying the green screen issue that users faced on their new 13s and 14s. Apple denied taking the accountability of the issue irrespective of the outrage among the people.
Thanks for again bringing the light to this issue. I had the same issue with my Galaxy S20 Ultra which was purchased outside India and hence did not get any help from Samsung Customer Service in India. The issue literally started while the phone was rebooting from the Software update. This is both related to hardware and Software as some software update can make small changes to the power delivery and optimization to the displays. Now, why that is not happening to all phones receiving the software update, no two physical phones are made exactly identical and there will always be minor differences in terms of Silicon used, Display panel used and even the circuit used, due to nature of Solid State Electronics. For example, when you see Laptop reviews, you will see that exact same laptop with exact same display sometimes have smaller deviation in maximum brightness, color gamut coverage etc. So, those software updates affect some models more than others.
OP12 has no reported green line issue in its official forum. I am sure You have posted this serious issue in One Plus portal. Can you please share that link?
Hi pratik, thank you so much for making this video. I have this small request as well. Samsung and most of their phones has this issue of back glass/plastic panel popping off due to poor adhesive after probably an year of usage. Even IP rated flagships like the fold 3, the s21 ultra, the s22 ultra, note 20 ultra ,you name it, everything has this issue at one point or another. I have so many friends who have temporarily lost their data due to slight rains, just because nobody checks their back panels everytime they go out. The slightest amount of liquid is enough to kill even a flagship device after one year of usage. Samsung doesn't care about this issue. I hope you'll make a video on this and understand the severity of this issue. Replacing a screen, that is just a one part change. This kills the entire phone. Keep making awesome content!!❤❤
Thank you for pointing this out. Please, also talk about how the Samsung phones are having white/green/pink line issues. Also talk about how they refuse to provide free screen replacement (even for the FE line up and obviously for A,M,F series) and pin it on the users even when they are so many cases popping up.
Around 1.5 years ago, my sister and I both purchased the Realme GT Master Edition smartphones. I consider myself a tech enthusiast, always eager to explore the latest updates and features, while my sister, on the other hand, is more of a casual user. I advised her not to update the software on her phone, but I, being the tech-savvy one, couldn't resist updating mine whenever a new software version arrived. We both own 5G-capable phones, yet my sister has remained loyal to the factory version, never updating it. Interestingly, she received the latest software update on the very day we bought the phones, but she never bothered with it. She didn't even receive the 5G update that I got. She's perfectly okay with 4G. Surprisingly, her phone performs exceptionally well. It's at least 100 times ( 😉) faster and smoother than mine. She never encounters any lag or performance issues. Still her one is like the very first day we bought the mobile,
I think it's all pre planned they do it intentionally so that you go for their new model. I had purchased Realme XT back in 2019 but after updating it got worse it lags, camera quality got worse and several other issues😂

Samsung display sucks. Last 2022, my cousin bought s21 FE, it's only 3 weeks old and not used daily then suddenly a bunch of green and pink lines appeared out of nowhere.
@@ylleknai9830 all smartphone display comes from Samsung maybe 90% of them even apple and chinese brands use it. They designed and manufactured them.
In my country, if you do trade in with samsung, they'll overlook the green lines on your phone. Basically they'll treat it like the line never existed, and if your phone is in mint condition (minus the lines), they'll just offer you the maximum number regardless. But anyhow, interesting that they cite "software update" as a reason. My guess is probably heat. Software updates can run for a long time and the update itself is a CPU intensive task that heats up the phone. Since a phone typically eject heat from the screen, excessive heat can be an issue, especially if you use a flip cover case or put your phone on places that it can't let the heat out. Temps would rise uncontrollably and could damage the screen since OLED panels are very sensitive to heat. Not sure if the heat can damage cables at that temperature though.
for me the entire screen got a green tint after a software update and the service centre demanded 16k for replacement. There were no physical damages done to the phone either.
Watched the full video. However, you didn't see one possible point, the manufacturing fault, where the product was made. To my concern, before the AMOLED displays were put to phone, they were well tested. After that, brands took it and put it in their phone. But, there could be a possible manufacturing fault.
I faced the same issue with moto Edge 30 as well after android 13 update, But my phone was under warranty & free from any physical damage. So they replace it with free of cost.

Last week, had a friend's iPhone display go all black. (13 Pro/ US unit, using it here in India). She was still able to hear her phone ring but the display was all black. She didnt even update the iOS recently. 32k for the new display. I was so excited for the 15 launch this year but all this makes me wary. Not buying the 15 until atleast another 4-6 months.
Dear Pratik Ji, Hi, Software CAN cripple the display.... or any other hardware part for that matter. While installing Linux/Unix (the kernel on which Android was initially based), it was always a precaution clearly passed down that ONLY install if you know your device specifics. The software, in case of these kernels, controls the entire flow of current / voltage to the hardware, so a minor fault in the kernel code, may actually end up sending wrong current/voltage and will end up blowing the display.... or other hardware. PS: I have seen a friend's CRT monitor blow up (stopped working permanently) while installing Linux... So trust me... it can happen.
Not everyone is flashing ROMs on their phones. Even 3 or 4 month old phones are having this issue with normal usage. This is the manufacturer's fault. Stop giving clean chit to these billion dollar companies whose only motive is to make profits by hook or by crook.
Let me clarify the problem and how to avoid purchasing a phone that may develop this issue in the future. Don’t worry, it’s simple: just check if the display is AMOLED, Super AMOLED, or OLED. If the phone you are considering buying has a Super AMOLED or AMOLED panel, it’s better to avoid it. This is because Samsung, who manufactures all kinds of AMOLED displays, has problems with display quality, causing many smartphones with AMOLED screens to develop green lines. So, if the phone you’re looking at has an OLED panel from any another brand like LG, BOE, Visionox, TCL etc., go for it without any doubt!!! just make sure to check which brand’s OLED display panel the phone maker and are using. I hope this helps, and I’m sorry for those who already have this issue. Please be careful when buying your next smartphone.
@@Kiryu-gf1jt Bro Even iPhones that used Samsung AMOLED display have faced, and continue to face, display problems due to the poor quality of Samsungs displays. However, most of the new iPhones now primarily use panels made by LG or BOE. The iPhone 14 series, which used LGmade panels, had some issues, but these were software related and were resolved by Apple through a software update. We are seeing fewer issues with iPhones because iOS is different compare to android and Apple invests a lot in research and development for their smartphones. They even calibrate the display according to their own standards. Else, you can personally investigate whether other phones with OLED panels from different brands have had same issues or not. This will provide you a clearer picture.

I guess, I only guess, the hardware of each phone could be different by a little margin. And if that is the case a 1 software update I guess can cause some error in some resisters and transistor etc in your phone. These components are definitely a hardware thing but to let them work a software is important which probably controls the hardware with the main chip or microprocessor inside your phone And that means if the software has a bug which can glitch a component, the component will overflow the current to the display segment and can kill the pixels permanently. Correct me if I'm wrong

This is scary . We spend so much money in these phones and you never know when they will become damaged
In some cases, these cables are soldered to the motherboard, and excessive heat can lead to the detachment of the soldered wires, potentially causing the green line issue.
same was said for motherboard issues with poco and xiaomi phones.
Just about to comment this one! Guess I'm a bit too late 😅

If software updates can put out enough heating to cause green line then what about intense gaming sessions?
So put your phone in fridge while updating

No
Me too!
Bro one doubt, this problem can occur on #LCD display mobile?
@@kreysanths3580 yes it is possible
your 10000000000% correct
This is correct. I fell asleep with my hotspot on. Anyway to fix it?
@@Paralianpoet there is a solution that only works 50 percent of the time... You need to remove the display and slightly apply heat over the display connector ribbon with a heat gun where the line exists... It might fix the issue or make it worse! The only other solution is to get your display changed free of cost at the authorised service center!
A software update might change the power throughout to the displays. The software regulates the voltage and any small change may cause such green lines popping up.
But the catch is older devices are getting this problem without any software update
yeah it may also happen cause of overheating of the device
So be happy with your old phone, without lines.
as an electronics engineer i can confirm you are absolutely correct

To avoid green line issue, just don't buy any smartphone with oled or amoled display.
This issue is not related to smartphone brand or software updates, most of the time this happens after update on oled or amoled screen phones due to excessive heat.
You may not realise but your phone gets way more hotter during update than average usage.
This is still just a speculation, but this happens only in oled and amoled displays.

Have been following up with customer care guys since a week without any progress :/
Thanks for making a video on this!
In this way atleast OnePlus is doing something about it.

I have just started to make a video whenever a software update comes. I had to pay close to 18K to get it repaired.

What phone do you import ?
It’s definitely due to software updates. Most people are reporting this issue immediately after an update.
I personally feel this is a sinister plot. Android brands are doing this to force its customers upgrade to newer phones. Apple also made a similar manoeuvre by messing with the battery life; this marketing ploy resulted in a lawsuit and Apple ended up paying its clients. Android phone users experiencing such issues after software updates should sue the companies.

the reason for these green light issue is because of the overheating during software update or leaving the phone under the sun for a while which melts down the connecting seal in display. you can learn more this from a channel known as A2D. in one of his recent videos he talks about the indepth reason behind it
If that's the case a phone heats quite a lot during gaming.

Kudos to OnePlus for officially addressing this issue in such a manner, other companies should learn from them
In my opinion buy a phone with IPS display and it will not happen
They deliberately slow the CPU over time to preserve battery. Because CPU can provide the same performance for decades, batteries get wore real fast

Samsung is repairing a lot of line phones for free. I saw a 3 year old s21 utra got repaired. You can see the proof on Samsung members app.
Not sure if the heat can damage cables at that temperature though.
best to just buy a phone cooler for around 10 bucks and a backup power bank if you want to use it everywhere

Hi, Software CAN cripple the display.... or any other hardware part for that matter.
@@Sujay95 Yups, software is their responsibility
Just avoid oled based display, it just get exact same issues.
@@AchmadBadra No bro, this problem is only in some amoleds manufactured by Samsung, other OLEDs of different brands will have the problem of burn in issues, not any Major problems.
You speak fluently that's awesome. Everything is clear ❤ keep it up bro❤
There is a rumor that these issues are only happening to Indian units..
There are cases in the oneplus community where people havent updated their phones to the newer versions but still they had green line issue.
It's might be because of temperature

OnePlus going to replace screen for free, else if parts not available they will give coupons to upgrade
My Galaxy m52 bought 2022 January started showing a green line one week back. Sent an email to the company regarding this. Not even an acknowledgement e-mail was sent back. I had a Samsung as my first smartphone during the touch wiz era. I never purchased another Samsung ever for anyone in my family until last year. Samsung is like Logan paul. Changes the look but underneath the same shit.
You can observe the green lines frequency gets increased when you press your screen.
I had the same issue with my iQoo7 and got the screen replaced under warranty. As per the service center if any additional pressure is put on the display can cause this issue. It may happen even if you put some armour guards.
yes a green and a pink one
@MohdMoinuddin121 if u press your phone from charging port side to from camera side the lines go away if you want a permanent fix u have to replace screen for 6k
@@sahilsharma1506 What is causing this green line issue? Are brands deliberately making it to make people replace the display at cost? Is it a new business they are doing? Heard it's happening in iPhone as well like forming green tint on the whole display.
My Vivo X70 Pro was also having the same issue after 1 year 8 Months. I didn't get any software update and the issue was very random. I visited the Vivo Service center, they replaced the screen free of cost and the screen is now fine.
Free of cost? how? Was it within warranty?
@@kevinmathew2973 free of cost. It was not under warranty. There was no physical damage, so they replaced the screen free of cost.
why only indian variant phone's are getting green line? is it because companies use inferior quality materials for phones especially sold in india?
TLDR ; He doesnt know the reason
I had the same issue with my Moto G82. Fortunately it was still in the warranty period hence could be replaced. When I went to the official service center they checked extensively for any defects and was only accepted after that. When i interacted with them they said they had at least 10 phones with the similar issue.
Moto g52 and 82 is plagued with green lines

any idea how to fix this? or should I consider lcd replacement? thanks

In my moto edge 30 suddenly there was green line without any physical damage or software update ( last sequrity update was around 2 months ago, before they use to give it approximately every month). I took it to the service centre and it took 2 weeks as parts were not available but it was free. After that when I was trying to setup my phone it turned off permanently , again I had to go to the service centre. I don't know how much time it will take this time .

This has happened with 2 of my Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus smartphones. It's ridiculous that it happens for the phone after Software update & brands deny repairs being it out of warranty. We need better & strict rules for such issues in place.

I guess, I only guess, the hardware of each phone could be different by a little margin.
And if that is the case a 1 software update I guess can cause some error in some resisters and transistor etc in your phone.
These components are definitely a hardware thing but to let them work a software is important which probably controls the hardware with the main chip or microprocessor inside your phone
And that means if the software has a bug which can glitch a component, the component will overflow the current to the display segment and can kill the pixels permanently.
Correct me if I'm wrong
This actually makes a lot of sense

Oneplus user right here. experience in using oneplus 6 before and currently using oneplus 8 Pro. Starting from just 1 line and now, it has already become 7 lines. I totally lost my trust in this brand. Sorry oneplus 💔
Higher refresh rate could be a reason,
I tried to overclock my old phone's refresh rate (+6hz)
And after some time it showed exact lines,
I guess companies are using displays which are not perfectly capable of pushing it to higher refresh rates
Yeah it could be that some panels are.inferior and cant go 120hz
Intresting observation 👀

I have gone through many blogs, videos regarding green line issue in One Plus and other phones. What I can understand is, these green lines come after two incidents, 1. After software 2. After Physical Damage. If the phone drops from your hand, then it is beyond your control but you always have the control not to update your phone.
If your phone get hot, chances are high even if you don't do the software update
2:53 but then won't the consumer have to use a display with lines on it? Stopping repairs is a dumb idea by OnePlus but then again they started using ColorOS sooo....
Color OS ain't that bad. It's actually one of the better ones besides One UI and Stock
@@dvornikovalexei i strongly disagree after using. It's very bad for privacy because it's Oppo's Chinese ROM, it looks ugly and it ain't smooth on my OnePlus phone at all even after a factory reset
@@Vedant9710 "Chinese ROM". Acting like US aren't the biggest warmongers on this Earth and their OS don't track your data. Some of you clowns are hilarious
@@dvornikovalexei first of all i'd like to clarify I'm not from the US. Second of all yes all ROMs do but Chinese ROMs collect data way more. If you don't know about it I don't think you should insult others. Also these Chinese ROMs like MIUI and ColorOS come bundled with Ads and other bloatware which btw these bloatware apps also collect more data, which a lot of companies providing near to stock Android don't have bloatware hence comparatively less data is collected
LCD is best😂
lcd cant even be uses if the display hardware was damaged. complete black out ..
One drop of water and it's all gone😊
Old iPhones had lcd and still had this problem...
But I agree LCD has a rare chance of this happening
The trick is to keep a balanced brightness because higher brightness can cause heat in the small lights .
Also use refresh rate 60@90 not 120 and not always charge phone with supercharge

Samsung straight up said they won't do anything for free. Zero responsibility or accountability for mid range phones on their part, it's like middle class people arent even customers for them.

Dell repaired the display free of cost but still not sure why even it happens in for new devices as well.. did you heard more such cases for laptops ..if yes please make a video of the same as well...❤ you guys
For laptops this happens due to physical damage not because of software updates.
Lines in laptop display is common and the main reason is physical damage or any defect.
