Bicycled through there, Sausalito to Santa Monica, 50 years ago. One of California's true gems!

wow, that's amazing! When I was there one of the bridges had been closed into Big Sur so we could bike with zero cars. Magical!

@@RealSamanthaBrownAnother special memory I have of that area five years later is a visit with Ansel Adams at his home in Carmel. After finding his name in the phone book while driving through one morning, he was kind enough to suggest an afternoon visit with him where his showed me his studio and darkroom and signed a couple books I purchased in Carmel that morning. Having hiked some in the Sierra as a teenager, meeting him was really a huge thrill for me.

I was lucky enough to have been born and raised in the Bay Area and specifically Santa Cruz. It’s a beautiful and breathtaking wondrous place to have lived. You left out the giant redwoods that are a part of the bay as well. I now live in Arizona but I am lucky to have both my husband’s family and mine still back there so we visit often. Our kids love going to visit Santa Cruz even more so than our yearly week long trip to Disneyland. It’s a very special place that I am fortunate enough to call home.❤

I am blessed to have had the opportunity to enjoy two road trips from LA to SF on the Pacific Coast Highway 1. Will always cherish as the most memorable road trip.

Grew up in PG. My family has been there for 10 generations. I felt like Big Sur was my back yard and playground.
I remember when the aquarium first opened. They let locals visit for free...everuine was very excited about it.

Interesting story about the kid in Carmel-by-the-sea, but the ENTIRE town was overlooked! No chain stores are allowed there. Yes, there are coffee shops and restaurants, but they’re not Starbucks and Olive Garden. (thank goodness!). Independent, family owned, and exquisite. No garish plastic signs are allowed, even the Shell gas station sign is made of wood. There are no traffic lights, or street lights, or addresses on homes. At night the town is DARK, except for dim lighting, and lanterns. The town is heaven on earth.

My grandma grew up in Carmel. Her Dad built a modest chalk rock house that still stands today as is a historical landmark. If you Google her name, Nancy Sand, and Carmel, there's an interview with her telling stories about growing up there. Our family has been here 10 generations now. My great grandma used to tell me stories about Carmel and how not many people wanted to live there when she was young because it was cold and windy. Lol. Times have definitely changed.

@ Carmel is a very small artist colony/ small town. Yes, it is very dark at night, but kids aren’t out, teenagers aren’t out. There are lantern in building windows, it’s VERY charming. It’s not a typical small town. Homes there START around $4 million. It’s a lovely place.
