oh my gosh youve ACTUALLY changed my life! Ive always hired drummers cause I can make the tracks and drum the ideas myself but dont wanna just shove samples on a triple kick in a 4/6 groove cause i don't have that kind of time 😭 but now i can just make these drummers sound sick and edit from there! Thank you!!
So kind of you to take the time to do this! What a game changer this video was, I didn't notice the "producer" part, and how I can add fx/plugins to each drum! Also, I want to add, you can "convert to midi" any part in case someone had a specific vision of how a drum part should be in a certain section.
Yes, I've started adding distortion to my garageband drums and it certainly adds color. Since I started using your tips to make Garageband Drummer sound real I've recieved lots of compliments on how my production skills are improving. Thanks. Your channel, The Band Guide, is the best channel for helping people new to production learn how to really use a DAW.
I can't tell you how much I appreciate people like yourself. This is so helpful and and to the point. It's in depth enough to get to a point of satisfaction in the drum sound quality from an actual drummer. Also, No requests for subscriptions or classes to take to pay for. I really dig content like this. Thanks, buddy.
Amazing video! Very detailed! Thanks for that! However, note that you can change the stereo perspective of overheads using Logic's gain plugin and change LR. Very easy.
Hi Collin, thank you so much for this series of making the LP drums sound real. Your instructions are clear, and this has helped immensely with my LP Drummer and another 3rd party (EZY Drummer) drumming track. This is one of the best video series around logic - full stop.
For certain songs I’ve added some grit to m drums. But you’ve brought them forward in the mix. They sound powerful. That’s what I need. This video has been very eye-opening. I cannot wait to try this in my current project. Thank you!
Just wanna thank you for taking the time to do this guide. I used to edit and mix drums on BFD back when Sonar was still a thing. Getting used to Logic meant relearning a lot of tricks. Your guide anchored me back to the fundamentals in a very easy to understand way. Looking forward to checking out more of your content!
I've edited this comment. I ran through these steps with a drum track I had. This really made a difference. Thanks for such clear tutorials. You've really demystified producing.
I’ve been playing around with GarageBand for a few years on & off. I was never happy with how it sounded. Your channel is changing that as you clearly explain how to deep dive into settings. Thanks so much
Hello! Your channel has open up a whole new toolbox for me. I like the approach to get the sound more realistic cause i didnt really understood exactly what it was that makes the sound so dead before. And a lot comes from a dead drumsound. I use distortion on the snare sometimes but for me I think the overhead microphones adds that dirtyness and aliveness that I like. When I played acoustic drums i had a very high tuned snare in all ways. Over and under and even the ”carpet” was very hard. So i like attack not so much ”fuzz ”on the snare. And i played skin and rim as most seems to do now. But distortion is really a genius way to make the drums sound more realistic. Great info Boss!
Looking forward to this series Colin. The GB version was awesome, so this should take it to the next level. This is one of my favourite parts of production. You could even store this as a template at the end of the series, so you have a starter kit ready to.
Your video on garage band drums made a MASSIVE difference, so glad you're doing logic videos as I'm ready to upgrade now. I'd have never imagined distortion would do this to drums 🤩
@@TheBandGuide I was actually holding back on upgrading because your garage band videos are my goto reference so I just stuck with garage band lol, thanks so much Colin these are priceless!! 🙏🙌
A good shortcut for me personally is go to producer kits, and solo Room A or Room B I use my Roland TD8 as midi trigger pads…It sounds sooo good as practice…not sure yet ref recording as I don’t think you can edit pads in Producer kits, please correct me if I am wrong though 👍🏻
GREAT SERIES ON LOGIC DRUMS! I there a way to save the drum setup created on this series of videos, so that the work will not have to be repeated every time I open a new session?
For the first time since I've been following you these past few years, you lost me. Maybe it was information overload, IDK. Will have to watch this a few more times and see if I'm tracking with you. As always though, awesome info, Colin.
Great video. Do you know if there's a way to the producer kits on ipad Logic. Can't figure out how to seperate the drums into each drim having its own track on ipad...
Great info! I tried to “claim my checklist” by clicking the link, but when I enter my email it says “This value seems to be invalid”. Just not going through. Too bad, I was really interested in checking out your stuff.
Great information Colin. Just wondering if there is any difference in using Direction Mixer to do the 180 degree turn and using switch left and right in the Gain plugin.
Some great tips and advice in this video. I had to replay it a few times with a project open in Logic, just to follow along, but it all made sense eventually - and just finding out about the producer kits was a real step forward for me. Previously, I'd been isolating all the drum elements by cutting and pasting things like kick and snare into separate tracks! Thanks Colin.
Good tips Colin! Quick question - I was working on some guitar parts along with Logic drummer and things were sounding wonky and out of time on playback. I was thinking OMG is my rhythm that bad? But finally realized the drums were not perfectly in time. When I converted them to midi and quantized them, they suddenly sounded in time. So my question - is the default state of logic drums humanized already so that they are not already quantized?
Hmmm. They should be nearly perfectly quantized as a drummer. I have noticed some people have accidentally adjusted the "swing" knob or selected one of the grooves that has swing to it. Is that possible?

Your content is pure gold, mate! Cannot thank you enough. Continue the awesome work!
this is great I needed this process. I have zero patience and I appreciate that you don't waste any time.
Excited to share it with you! And absolutely not- time is the most important thing and I'll never waste anyone else's!
Really effective way of adding life to drums without hugely altering what’s already there. Many thanks
Holy moly this is way better than GarageBand drummer and having to make each of those tracks that Logic gives you.
This is a bad ass tutorial! Thank you so much! Really makes a world of difference!

Good info, thanks. I do like how you get to the point in your video faster than most TH-cam videos (of all types, not just music)
I'm not here to waste anyones time!
Great info!! Yes, I’ve used distortion and it sounds so much more real. Love having all this content in one place!! 👍
It's wild distortion can do that, right??
Awesome guide! I can apply this to Addictive Drums 2 as well. Tysm.
Great information and bus set up. Valuable techniques from an an actual drummer. Thx a lot !
definitely will be coming to your channel for help regularly.
🙌🏼
incredible video man, using your tips now. thanks.
Glad you dug it! In the middle of dropping a new video on logic every day this month, so you're right in time!
OUTSTANDING Video!
Thank you!
great video. best yet re: drums
Absolutely fantastic tutorials. Many thanks 👏👋👋
Great teaching, thanks man!
Highly Informative, thanks for sharing

Is there a setting to enable hitting the bell of the ride cymbal instead of the side?
Great information Colin. Just wondering if there is any difference in using Direction Mixer to do the 180 degree turn and using switch left and right in the Gain plugin.
Great point, John! I don't believe there would be

Great vid but can you save your custom kit? Looks like you can but I may be missing something, thanks.
Yep! Just save it as a preset within the plugin
can you do a similar one for the drum machine DMD?
Would this approach work for hip hop drums ?

Most records are mixed audience perspective. Not drummer perspective
Are parts three and four out on YT?
Part 3 just landed yesterday and part 4 comes out next Thursday at 9am!
Well at least real enough to show to the drummer what to do/what you want that you'll hire when going to the studio to record the master
