I listen to this song a lot, waiting for the day I get to play this game and experience what everyone else did so long ago. This comment hits me hard everytime, making me sad and excited for the game at the same time. It's a strange mix of feelings that gives me the chills. This comment hits hard because of the goodbye part, knowing that eventually, we will lose everybody we love, but the other parts make me excited, it makes me think "is that what you really do in the game?" This just goes to show, despite just being pixels, video games can change people, inspire people, make people happy, and most importantly, make people sad.
Thats such an emotional gut punch of a line. Also the unique crying portrait that is not used anywhere else in the game, other than two times during the ending sequence. I was so close to getting through the ending without crying my first playthrough. But what eventually broke me was the flashbacks on the beach. Like the whole part where the partner seemingly had moved on, months after the player disappeared, only to go to the beach during sunset and have all the memories of the protagonist flood back. That was so heartbreaking for me.

same, and i tend to give that credit to the music in the moment. i tear up even by hearing it while im not playing just because i remember the scene unfolding arata iiyoshi is a spectacular composer
This has to be the most real moment ever in a video game. Throughout the whole game you feel the bond between you and your partner just for it to end on such a sad note. I know they reunite, but god this scene breaks my heart. My poor Skitty partner ;-;
ɓlαҡε That’s what Super messes up. The partner is ANNOYING. Obnoxiously so. And it really doesn’t get much better. So the goodbye isn’t as emotional. It was, for me, kinda a relief.
Yuusha Blues What? It’s true. I didn’t like super. I felt they approached the partner wrong, and the emera gimmick made a lot of dungeons luck based if you couldn’t get the right ones. And by the way, I didn’t just not like the goodbye because I was expecting one. Because after not playing the originals, DX made me very emotional.
@@dreeg1896 I expected the goodbye in both RTDX and EOS and it still made me sad, and I've heard the other PMD games aren't really good... I can't wait for EOSDX.
I first played a Mystery Dungeon game when I was about 8. I never finished RRT, but with how poorly I comprehended the fugitives arc, I don't think I would've been that phased by the ending. After growing up a little, I played PSMD start to finish at 16 and it absolutely ruined me. I _just_ finished playing Explorers of Sky, at 23, and I'm still recovering from it.
I'm 23, just looked up the ending to this game after reading these comments because I've never played the game, and even despite not knowing what the game is like at all, I still cried.
I remember how much younger me was so shocked that was the ending of the story. It was not until a few years later that I heard about the after-credits scene and entirely new storyline, and I cannot say how excited I was to hear that! This always reminds me of how everything should not be kept for granted, and you should always keep track of friends and all you hold dear. My friends are everything to me, and I believe it is from this game I learned to appreciate it.
I was actually so shocked that i kept playing refusing this game to end. I was so happy when the story kept going and by that i was able to somehow put this game out of my hands again. True masterpiece!
dude if you really want to hear a song that makes you want to hold on to the friends you've got now for dear life you should hear Smiles And Tears from Earthbound and know the context of it
I just graduated high school. I lost my best friend to suicide in the fall. This song reminds me of him, and I'll never forget the memories we had, even if they may fade. I miss and love you so fucking much.
Greenstar the Mono-Emperor That's my interpretation as well. Considering you and your partner's dialogue at this point, it's reasonable to think there was a romantic element to their relationship.
I’m a part of the video game ensemble at Appalachian State University. This semester, we’re covering multiple tracks from Pokémon Mystery Dungeon, explorers of sky (this one is included). And as you can probably tell by my profile pic, I play piano. Plus the piano arrangement on this piece is really beautiful.
I remember as a young kid, I couldn't ever finish Explorers of Time because when I got to this point I'd always end up bawling my eyes out and resetting my save file, so that I could relive those happy memories with my partner. I was a little older when Explorers of Sky came out, so I told myself I would finally brave through the tears and finish the game. Even all these years later this song sticks with me and I get emotional, both because of the story itself and the fact that it affected me so much as a kid. I wish Pokemon games still had storytelling like this. It felt like there was so much effort put into immersing you in the world of Pokemon and its characters. I still highly value story as one of the key aspects of what makes a game "good" because those memories have stuck with me all these years.
you say "Pokemon games still had storytelling like this" as if the mainline games has good stories. the story is nearly always: beat gym, fight rival, bad guys do something bad, beat them, become champion. the spin offs had good stories
@@somerandomguy-3102I think the older games were really good, but the only generations that even _ATTEMPTED_ to have engaging stories were 5 and 7. I think 5 did a relatively ok job, but the pacing in 7 was so bad that I just couldn't take the story seriously. I think I could call only Gen 5 a proper JRPG, but its still pretty messy.

This is the only game to ever make me truly cry, I remember being a 5 year old in blockbuster just bawling my eyes out at the credits scene after spending the car ride and like 20 minutes in the store trying to finish the game, and then all the emotions I felt seeing what happened afterwards, this game and this song is one the main things that’s fueled my lifelong love for all things Pokémon. This’ll probably be lost in the sea of comments but it just feels good to talk about everything this game and this piece of music has done for me, the impact it’s had on my life.
Pokémon will always hold a special place in my heart. It was the foundation of who I am today. And I cant thank Satoshi Tajiri enough for creating the world of Pokémon. I really wish he knew how much it changed my life for the better...
One of my best friends recently passed away and I'll never forget my first time being introduced to Pokemon when he was facing the Elite 4 in Sapphire, Rest in Peace my friend I'll never forget you :'(
I just finished Explorers of Sky DS for the first time this evening. I’m not an emotional guy, or at least I don’t get very emotional over movies or games, but this, this one got me not just emotional, but in tears, a great ending to a great game.
@Hioozuma More than many movies, series or Adult's games?YES! And that's not all! This ending made me cry,but the ending of world of darkness with Grovyle?!!Made a fucking waterfall come out of my eyes.🤣🤣 Seriously, I cried a lot, a lot. The story of this game is incredible.
I've cried at the end of quite a few games. Wind Waker, nostalgic. Heartgold, great remake. This game? Freaking masterpiece. I felt every feel the game put me through. I felt like i was actually leaving a friend when i started to dissipate... This game has made a special place in my heart that no other game could provide.
The first and still one of the few moments I've ever cried to a video game. The story in this game is amazing. This tune just makes it so much better. The emotions enhanced by this music are perfect.
I nearly cried on this one. This is one song i had a deep conection with. I had depression like some months ago like 6 months and it was really hard to express my feeling even to myself and especially to others but this song made the impossible possible. Everytime i heard this song i went to my couch, hid below it and started crying not just tears but whole waterfalls of water went out of my eyes. This was the was i handled my depression. And it helped, my situation still got worse but without this song it may have been unstopable. This song hits this right deep into my heart because this combination of this nostalgic feeling with the combination of the instruments just was a wonder for me. Nowadays i have won the fight against my depression, found out a way of handling my problems and just dont cry because of my problems i have and how my live is shitty as fuck when i hear this song but crying because remembering of this time I played this game and the sad situation accured at the end of the cutscene. What i want to say, dear reader who reads this. Don’t run from your problems, fight against them and find a way to know how to handle those. You will find a way out of your depressed circumstances and then enjoy your life as I do. Cheers
I got PMD Explorers of Sky for my birthday and when that moment came when I heard the melody from Dont Ever Forget, tears came to my eyes. To this day, this OST gets me a masterpiece and I'm looking forward to a good remake of this OST in the future in a remake of Explorers of Time/Darkness or Sky
Every. Single. Playthrough. I cry at this part every single time. This music hooks deep into your emotions and drags them to the surface and there is nothing you can do to stop it.
I think the music can fit every game because you may not want to stop playing but you have seen everything you saved everyone so now there is no reason for you to stay you have other games/realities to save you have to go even if you don’t want to…
The first and to this day only series to ever make me cry. Mystery Dungeon is by far my favorite Pokémon spinoff series, Explorers of Sky is my second favorite Pokémon game just behind Omega Ruby, and I took this song to heart, no way in hell I'm gonna forget one of the most wonderful, beautiful, magical video game journeys I've ever gone on. As of right now Rescue Team DX is the most important Pokémon games to me because it marked 2 very important things, it marked this series' miraculous return on the scene, and it made Mystery Dungeon the first ever Pokémon spinoff to get a remake (and a damn faithful one at that, eat your heart out BDSP). Really shows that no matter how mid the mainline games get, even The Pokémon Company themselves love this series just about as much as the fans. Here's hoping they also Don't Ever Forget and keep these masterpieces going with as much love and dedication as they've been putting into it since the beginning.
From now on whenever I feel angry, stressed, to proud or happy about something and need an emotional restart, or I just wanna kick my heart in the D$#& with a steel toed boot and get sad I'll play this.
Remember that boot from Spongebob's movie? I'd say you kick your heart in the d*** with that, just a steel boot doesn't represent enought sadness for such a song.
I just finish playing this game for the first time and they weren’t lying. This game can make you cry. I think a part that will stick with me for my whole life is my partner saying “…I have to live… I have to get home alive…” As someone who lost somebody important to me in my life that quote really stuck with me. The whole game’s theme of life moves on really hits home for me. Life moves on even after death. There’s something comforting about that. Such a wonderful game. I’m so happy I finally got to play it. (Especially as a charcadet)
Its now 2022 and what can i say.....this game, this soundtrack is a masterpiece. I first played this game like 6 years ago and since than its one of my all time favorites. The story might be one of the best of all time. I would lie if i say the game didnt bring tears in my eyes. This is were real men cry.
@@xXChickyChuXx dont tell me your part of the people who could ruin someone experience of the game be trying giving him 100 tip on how to play or spoil the game
@@dragondesabysse2258 I honestly have no idea what my original comment was about. I wouldn't give too many tips on how to breeze through the game, or spoil the story in any way. The game is great, and I wouldn't take away from that. If I was to guess, maybe my original comment was directed at people like the IGN reviewers.
"Hey, so we need you to compose a game soundtrack, it's for this niche spinoff Pokemon series that practically nobody knows, so you don't have to go too hard on it" Arata Iiyoshi: 🎹🎹🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
I was thinking of an alternate end that would also be pretty sad. Since you get erased from time, imagine if after you vanished, your partner was just standing there dazed and confused. And didn't know what he was doing, why he was there, and no one else had a clue. He just slowly walks back to Lapras, Lapras doesn't ask about you, and it shows the montage of everything back to normal except every contribution and mention of you is completely gone. Nobody remembers you because you never existed.
I never thought 1 day in my life I will cry over a pokemon game and this one did at the exact moment this song played ,even now 10 years later i'm getting emotional over the song over the moment ,this game is such a masterpiece
Listen to this whenever you lose someone. Why would you listen to this when you lose someone? Now you're never gonna stop crying. I can't beat this game without crying despite playing it more than 5 times over.
"Lets make some 10 year olds cry" "Sir, we made it a bit too powerful it might make all ages cry" "That includes 10 year olds?" "Yes sir" "Then keep it the way it is"
The fact that when this song plays in the game it's the first (if not only) time we see the protagonist *actually* talk and not only know their thoughts, makes it even more heartbreaking.
Everybody in my school knows me for being one of the toughest guy, but they don't know that I came here few times every month for recharging my soul, because this song mean EVERYTHING to me. I will never forget this feeling and my best friend since day 1, Blastoise.
From an era when pokemon respected it's players enough to give them a mature story line with a saddening ending. I pray pokemon can somehow return to this era of pokemon in the future.
Here I am, a grown up 23 years old, crying like the first time I heard it a as 7 y.o. child. GG for making the best pokemon game in my entire existence.
This game made me cry for the following reasons: 1.) The main story/plot is beautiful and is a masterpiece that made me cry 2.) All of the game's characters were all so unique. You can really feel bond u have with you're partner and friends 3.)Grovyle. He was my favorite character second to my partner. His sacrifice made me cry 4.)How the game makes u feel special and gives u lessons u won't ever forget😢
There is one thing none of us are ever prepared or ready when it happens... and thats saying goodbye to someone you care about forever. The only thing you can ever do now after they are gone is to remember them and to carry on thier memory. Thats why you must never forget those you care about. Because you're all thats left to know them. That's what this song teaches you. To never let go of what you know. To never forget. Don't ever forget.
This is actually one of the few video games in my life that I played that almost made me cry and nothing else ever came close to making me feel such a way as this game did. To this day.
Here are some lyrics: In the past, you may have lost a friend, and somehow, your tears are locked away, Even if you try to cry out loud, as you look at the experiences that you... Don't ever forget... (instrumental)
From the day I preordered this, to today of 2020, I will always remember this game gave me one of the most cherished memories someone can ask for . For those who wish they could replay this game as a kid and be new to it I’m there with you. To the great explorers of our time, you all were magnificent. Keep on exploring
As someone who managed to not play this game for so long and beat it today, this game is incredible and one of the few games that made me smile and tear up during the big moments. I still have post game to complete but man did the dissapearence and subsequent reunion scene really hit me hard.
I got to this part on my second playthrough of this game today. Even if I knew what would happen, this scene hit me like a multi-hit move. The music rose again right when the hero said “thank you for everything, ” and that just killed me. This game is amazing.
You know this game is a masterpiece, when you haven't played the game/watched youtube clips of it in at least 7 years, and can still perfectly recall the scenes in your head just by listening to the OST
I'm genuinely not one to cry with anything really, something has to be like DAAAAAMN emotional for me to cry over it. I lost count of how many times I cried to this
I love the subtle detail that every dialogue box your character has is in brackets {} to show that its his thoughts, but when you say goodbye to your teammate, there's no brackets {}, you're actually speaking it.
Starting at 0:17- I'm afraid, my time has come to end It's now here, since we've changed history Wish I could, say goodbye to our friends But I can't... Please, do it for me (This can't be, can't you stay? Do you really have to now leave?) (We've just won, didn't we? I can't just go without you now..) Don't forget, the memories we've made Don't forget, knowing you made me glad And I know, this parting hurts so much But for you, there's journeys to be had (Please don't go, it's not fair, I can't go on without you here..) (In my heart, you're the key, and without you what would I be?) Don't forget, this adventure we had Please stay strong, as you've grown since we met As I fade, I'm glad to have known you Please my friend, don't ever forget. ---------- Been meaning to come up with lyrics for this song for a while now. Finally got it done today, hope you all enjoy. What a damn amazing game..
this was the only game ever to make me cry like that. i was already bawling when we were revealed to be grovyles partner, and when he was gone. now this was the BREAKING POINT. i was genuinely like wailing, like mourning. i will never forget this game, and it taught me many things in life. this game is truly a masterpiece, and deserves to be remade on the switch, or the next nintendo console.
After 10 years, I finally got to finish this game. The ending hurt so much to watch. I was at work as I was going through the ending and that last cutscene. I left my shift in tears that day. The song was so beautifully made and really portrayed the feeling of sadness so well. It was and still is a staple in my memory.

This has to be the most real moment ever in a video game. Throughout the whole game you feel the bond between you and your partner just for it to end on such a sad note. I know they reunite, but god this scene breaks my heart. My poor Skitty partner ;-;

That’s what Super messes up. The partner is ANNOYING. Obnoxiously so. And it really doesn’t get much better. So the goodbye isn’t as emotional. It was, for me, kinda a relief.

What?

I cannot imagine how hard this must have hit every child who played this game. I'm 32, a full-grown woman, and I still cried my eyes out at this part.
Redefined my life.
This game is not only a masterpiecevbut it can make the popple who play it better persons
I was actually so shocked that i kept playing refusing this game to end. I was so happy when the story kept going and by that i was able to somehow put this game out of my hands again. True masterpiece!
dude if you really want to hear a song that makes you want to hold on to the friends you've got now for dear life you should hear Smiles And Tears from Earthbound and know the context of it
Someone played the sequel before the original :P
It's the exact same thing they did in the original. Still cried at both though.
I got mad when the credits rolled. I thought it was such a sad ending. Then the post-credits scene happened and I felt better.
I just graduated high school. I lost my best friend to suicide in the fall. This song reminds me of him, and I'll never forget the memories we had, even if they may fade. I miss and love you so fucking much.

That's my interpretation as well. Considering you and your partner's dialogue at this point, it's reasonable to think there was a romantic element to their relationship.

I don't think a game needs a story to make it good, but a good story like this can definitely go a long way.
True the last part
you say "Pokemon games still had storytelling like this" as if the mainline games has good stories. the story is nearly always: beat gym, fight rival, bad guys do something bad, beat them, become champion. the spin offs had good stories

I think the music can fit every game because you may not want to stop playing but you have seen everything you saved everyone so now there is no reason for you to stay you have other games/realities to save you have to go even if you don’t want to…
Agh, this song brings up so many feels... I remember first playing this game. The Explorers series had such massive hits of feels.
CasualFan RWBY The new one was good. The story was a bit similar. That part you're worrying about hits hard. I don't say why. It just surpirses you.
Started a replay 2 days ago and this game once again made me cry for several minutes.
PMD2 is just a true masterpiece.
I just finish playing this game for the first time and they weren’t lying. This game can make you cry. I think a part that will stick with me for my whole life is my partner saying “…I have to live… I have to get home alive…”
As someone who lost somebody important to me in my life that quote really stuck with me.
Its safe to say we were all babies with this song

Congratulations! You unlocked the true ending!
WTF…
@@icebear6757 I mean, it technically makes more sense, because you shouldn’t be able to remember a person that no longer exists.

A good story can make you shed tears of real sadness for a fictional character.
I dont remember a single thing about the game, just hearing a song for hours while crying in the beach

I got to this part on my second playthrough of this game today. Even if I knew what would happen, this scene hit me like a multi-hit move. The music rose again right when the hero said “thank you for everything, ” and that just killed me. This game is amazing.
