Very nice series Tobias! I agree with the end card, buy what interests you and what you can afford. Maybe I have a short attention span because I will see a knife I own that I haven’t used lately and become enamored all over again. Collector’s disease , I guess! Thanks for sharing your collection, very nice pieces!
Case collectibles, there is quite an array. I'm liking the Stag movement too because to me they look good, feel good, wear good, and are usually desirable enough to hold their value too. But most importantly you can actually go out and buy one...whenever you want. That beats sitting on pins and needles waiting for a half dozen GEC's to drop knowing that there are hundreds of folks just sitting on their phone waiting for the very same knife...good luck. I'm glad we haven't turned our nose up at Case though it will be best if you can actually inspect the knife before purchasing if it's going to be collected. Thanks Tobias, one of my grails is a Case Canoe in abalone with silver script. she's a beauty.
Well you got there in the end Tobias, very amusing watching the dilemmas you went through, I don't buy that many knives but I agonise over different ones, can be hard to pick sometimes.
A difficult choice picking which knives you like best . I really like the stag handle knives best , I am a sucker for stag handled knives , and like you said Case do quality stag when it comes to handles . Thank you for the 4 part series, I really enjoyed it all .
As an avid collector of Case Knives I thoroughly enjoyed this series and suggested it to my sons and others I regularly direct others to Tobias as a person to watch for a decent idea of what knives a working person might buy Tobias is NOT a knife snob and that’s what I enjoy most about him BtW I own 63 Case Knives
I appreciate your choice of five, but was shocked when you took the large toothpick out. That purple bone Peanut looks awesome though. I enjoyed your 4 part answer an a simple question, sometimes there aren't short answers, and a great opportunity to show a lot more amazing knives. Thank Tobias.
My favorite Case knife is a blue American Workman large stockman that I've been carrying as my edc for many years. It's always done every job I've asked of it. I think my favorite pattern of traditional folding knife is the two blade folding hunter. I have a Schrade Walden Old Timer Alaskan Hunter from about 1970 that I've had since I was 9. I think it's the knife that got me interested in traditional folders. I bought a Rough Ryder yellow handled folding hunter and I really want a couple of Case folding hunters, both the large one and a pocket hunter. I was wondering if you would consider doing a video on the traditional folding hunter knife pattern like the Old Timer and the Case. There are lots of videos on the history of the Buck 110 (which I also have and really like) but I can't find any history on the older style hunters.
Just recieved 3 Case Copperheads for my collection. My EDC is a Rough Rider Clasic Carbon Halfhawk. It is a very useful knife at work. Thanks for doing this series on Case.
Nice choices! Like you when it comes to the mini Copperhead, I will choose the one with the wharncliffe blade everytime. The wharncliffe blade is one of my favorite blade styles. Nothing better for a sharp point and the straight edge makes sharpening easier than most other blade designs.
Great video. Loved all 4 videos in the series ... though #3 sagged a bit. Keep up the great work ! Here are my top 5 stack ranked Case pocket knives in the collection, at this moment : 1. 1975 Case XX USA 5 Dot Laminated Wood Etched Elephant Toe Knife 6250 (One of the gems in my collection) 2. 2019 Bone Stag Bullnose Trapper TB6.522019 3. 2018 Bone Stag Premium Stockman TB6.532018 (RIP Tony Bose !) 4. Caribbean Blue Bone Barlow 61009 1/2 SS (Dig the color) 5. Giraffe Bone Doctors Knife 64105 (Love Case's use of exotic handle materials)
Toby, since watching this I went to SMKW and ordered 2 knives in Abalone and Oyster that may never be seen again. made by RR , just about 25 Bucks now .each While supplys last as the man said..... shorter daily.
Some great knives there!!!! You may have already mentioned but any idea when the Case Jr Scout will be out again, I need to get one they look fantastic. Thanks for the videos, good stuff! 👍
Its funny that I have bought and sold but never kept any. I came upon a Case XX used for advertising in smooth bone., The man I sold it to seemed to be more interested in the company label, but told me he had a large collection of add knives, and all of them Case plus belonged to a club of collectors. Picture a Case handed out by Lincoln as a small gift, as the holy grail.
Tobias, I really enjoyed these rambles! I love the channel, and I'm a huge Case fan, so this was definitely a sweet spot for me! Keep up the great content, man! Blessings
Tobias I really liked the entire series. All 4 parts were either entertaining, educational or both. I was shocked to see the LG. Toothpick get pulled out. Can you tell me is the puzzle piece knife you briefly mentioned still made and what is the model number. Reason I am asking is my 2 GrNdsons are autistic. Luckily not locked in and they are improving with a lot of work. I have the Tinker and am going to get the RR classic Autism Awareness knife. If possible would like to try to find and purchase that Case puzzle piece knife. Any information you can give me on it would be appreciated.
Very Much appreciated....Love Case Knives ...Every chance I get I only buy Case Knives...Excellent quality knives by Far ...there is always something about Case Knives ..Magical about them..Sincerely Robert
Enjoyed watching this series. And yes, I watched all 4 videos in one sitting. :-) I think if you are "rich" and you want to collect the best, collecting the Case knives makes more sense. Not to say only the rich can collect premium name brands because even the poor can find good deals and collect them. The "poor" like myself can collect premium brands but perhaps at a slower rate. I just recently ordered 4 Rough Ryder knives from SMKW and it only cost me total of $65. I could have bought 1 Case knife for that price but I would have probably had to pick out one of their less expensive knives and something I particularly didn't like. The 4 Rough Ryders I picked out were all the knives I deeply liked in style, appearance, patterns, and their "charm". The 4 Rough Ryders I ordered will be the start of my collection. I have owned one Case knife and a few folders in the past but never really got into collecting pocket knives or knives in general. These folders will be knives I will collect and some I will use as everyday carry or special occasion carry. Far as collecting Case Knives, I am not going to go out of my way to collect Case knives as I do not see the value in them. To me collecting these pocket folders are like collecting Matchbox Cars. You never know which one will become highly sought after and be worth tons of money later even though they started out as very cheap toys. So collecting things that cost a lot of money to begin with is not a really good collecting strategy. Collecting cheap things that turn into very highly sought items later is what makes collecting fun. Any person with money can collect a lot of expensive knives but thats no fun. Collect quality made items at low price and most importantly collect what appeals to you. Also collect what you sense will be rare in the future....now that's fun. the 4 rough riders I ordered are: Rough Ryder Copper Fish Knife Rough Ryder Old Southwest Stockman Rough Ryder Classic Carbon Swayback Rough Ryder Patriot Canoe All for $65 with discount. :-)
I am far from rich but I am fortunate. Depending on where you live Case knives are ridiculously priced. For me a Case knife normally cost 3 or 4 times that of a Rough Ryder. And i have to think long and hard before buying the Case knife.
This was a fun series so watch. I really enjoy my case knives as well. Not just for collector value. I have carried them most days for a while. Mostly a copperlock which I cant say I remember you doing a video on. I assume they don’t really interest you? Sod buster junior has lived in my car for a long while as well. As a whittler that haven’t bought a seahorse whittler yet. I may have to finally get a couple. Also don’t think I have ever seen the peanut with scissors. New one on me and kinda fun.
Being one of your favorites; it would be interesting if you might give your views why Camillus is one of your favorite collectables. The Camillus brand returned in 2009 however; they are making modern knives; none are traditional models I know of. ✨🔪
Been watching a couple of years but only subscribed today. Case knife - American made! Case knife - emotional appeal! Case knife - pocket jewels! My favorite today (I get that), brand new sow belly stockman. My second favorite, a very old stag canoe; third, folding hunter single blade and also very old traded from a friend. How's that for all over the place . . . Thanks.
Not a fan of the patterns. But I completely understand their popularity. I do have an older Mini-Trapper with a pen instead of spay blade. I joke that once a person buys me a Case Trapper with Genuine India Sambar Stag covers, I will have one in my collection. Incidentally, I have bought Case Trappers and Mini-Trappers for others as gifts, I've just never added one to my collection. The Mini Trapper in my collection belonged to a friend of mine who passed away. His family gave it to me after his passing.
I've just got my first Case knife, (slimline trapper),, and the fit and finish is poor, I'll be sticking with Rough Ryder from now on,, (and save a lot of money),, 👍😁
Send it back to who you got it from. I hold Case to higher standard than Rough Ryder but my overall satisfaction is about the same. There are issues with Rough Ryders that I would never accept with a Case because of the price difference. But if you're not happy with any knife my advice is send it back!
@@KnifeChatswithTobias Hi, Tobias, I recently got the RR Grandaddy Barlow, in buckshot bone, and it was terrible, (blade rub, etc) so I sent that back, and decided to bite the bullet, and get my first Case,, the edge on this Trapper, is the worst on any knife I've bought, in the last few decades, regardless of price, !! So, long story short, I've fixed the edge, and I'm obviously keeping it, but I was very disappointed with it "out of the box",,, All the best my friend, from across the pond...
@@KnifeChatswithTobias Hi, I've just googled it to find out what the tang stamps mean, and I'm still not sure,, It has CASE XX with 4 dots above and 5 dots below, it's a 61048SS slimline brown jigged delrin trapper, and the date above the bar code on the box, says 03/10/22... It has a hairline gap to one side of the back spring, (which I'm OK with) , and the blade edge is now perfect, it's one sweet little knife, but, I've had RR, which were "perfect" out of the box,, Incidentally, will this hold an edge better than the RR's do you think,,? it did seem a bit harder to sharpen,, all the best my friend,,
