  • Learn how to use FLATTEN function in Google Sheets. FLATTEN function helps you flatten arrays to a single dimension, in case of spreadsheets we can take a range with multiple columns of data and move it to a single column.

THANK YOU!!! Didn't know quite what I was looking for when I was trying to merge & alphabetize a group of verbs from a job post into a single column - this did the trick!

Wow you gave me a neat ideia of how to transform a 28x13 table into a list of records useful to plot graphics, dinamic tables, etc. I used to convert the archive into excel then convert it into power query! Live and learn!

Flatten is very useful and the double negative trick too... Didn't know that one.

This used to be an undocumented function. I discovered it ages ago on the Google product support forums and it was my secret weapon for a while. Now it's no longer a secret 😂

Your videos are always helpful for learner like us. Sir, my request to you, please upload a complete tutorial on VBA Regular Expressions. I can't understand it properly from reading my book. It's really hard for me to understand this topic.

Thanks a lot, was wanting to get the position of an item from an open ended array, but flattening it was giving me all data from colA, 4 blanks, data from colB, 4blanks, etc. No idea why it was 4 blanks, rather than hundreds as the range reached the bottom of the page, but it was screwing me up a lot, and I was bashing my head against a wall, trying to use filter to remove the blanks till I saw you just sort.
For my purpose, it doesn't matter if there are dozens, or even hundreds of blanks, so long as they are all at the end.

There is nothing that will do the exact same thing. Custom VBA function what comes to mind.
Depending on the exact problem you're trying to solve there might be another solution.

Is there a way, how to exclude empty cells in Flatten function to have a clean list without removing the duplicates? 🥺

Use "Paste values only" option to copy the FLATTENED data to another Column. Use the FILTER function in the 2nd column to filter out the desired values.
