    That's right up my street that is. First of your videos I've seen and I loved it. The mantra of my own channel is to "Keep enjoying the wonders of nature where YOU are!" and you are clearly doing that Kim. I'll be sure to check out some of your other videos too! Stay safe, stay well, and stay positive! 👍👍👍😎

    Your enthusiasm for macro photography encouraged me to get out my old 55 mm Micro Nikkor lens. And then I acquired an as-new, pristine 200 mm Micro Nikkor that is out of production. Thanks to you I have been having fun! I put a set of extension tubes in my kit and I can shoot closeups with whatever lens I happen to have with me. Yay!

    Your flowers photos and videos are great. You are so correct, macro photography is very challenging.
    Depth of field is my hang up as it can be very narrow. As far as gardens and me growing flowers ,for me it is a lost cause. Every time I try gardening, the deer come out of the woods behind my house and eat them all. Oh well, at least they keep me company during this lock down. Last Autumn I did take photos of fungi behind my house. I wish you and all your followers best of health and patience. Stay safe.

    • @kimgrantphotography
      @kimgrantphotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much Blair. Shame the deer eat all your flowers but glad you see the silver lining in this. I can't wait to photograph some fungi in the autumn - not done it with a macro lens before. All the best Blair and hope you and your loved ones are well :)

    Again, I love my Olympus TG-4. It has a "microscope mode" that gives you incredible magnification. Plus, the camera is waterproof. I can just stick it in my pocket then wade trough rivers to get to where the interesting things are, pull it out, shake it off, and take pictures. You can get add-on super-wide and telephoto lenses. And you can literally change lenses under water because you never remove the main lens. The add-ons just fit over the front and they are also waterproof down to 50 feet.
    I keep saying the photograph you CAN get is always better than the photograph you "could have gotten."

    Another super video, Kim. I loved your images, some of them quite abstract, which really appeals to me! There were some great images from others too. Your obvious love of the world around you shines through on every video you post, and you have obviously been - to use your word - captivated by micro photography. It's an area I haven't explored yet, but would certainly love to give it a go at some point. Thanks again for posting - no new challenge for next week? Kathleen

    Hi Kim, you didn't put what F stop you used... I have found that with macro, in my case using a Nikon D7100 and a Tokina 100mm Macro and a smallest extension tube , forget f8 - use instead F51 (smallest aperture) with the inbuilt camera flash (take lens hoods off) or better still, an off camera flash... Great depth of field and a better photo all round... Try it Kim...xx

    • @kimgrantphotography
      @kimgrantphotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you very much for the tips Anthony. I need to use the lens more and learn fully how the manual adjustments of aperture etc work on it. Camera flash is something I've never used but will consider it for dull days (thankfully the day I shot these images it was very sunny and bright). Thanks again :)

    Not every vlog needs to be a learning vlog, but sometimes during these situations it's a coping vlog. So glad you are coping well with this. Macro is cool. I used a reverse mounting ring on a Pentax lens and placed it on my dslr Nikon and it did pretty good. I hope to get some extension tubes next since a macro lens is beyond my price being retired.

    • @MichaelChylinski
      @MichaelChylinski 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Raymond Powell you can get a macro converter for about $30, or extension tubes for $20 ish or reverse ring. If you use a flash you need a diffuser, but you can get some great shots with any of those things. I get a lot of good macro from my iPhone with a converter lens. For extreme zoom, you might want a tripod.

    • @kimgrantphotography
      @kimgrantphotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's great Raymond. All the best with it when you get your extension tubes. Photography isn't cheap but there's a lot of accessories out there to get the macro effect with the lenses you currently own (see Michaels comment below). All the best :)

      @rnspowell 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MichaelChylinski Thanks. All this sounds good. I will definitely look into it. I do have an old Bogan the treats me well with a new Bento head. Right now do macro I shoot with my 55- 300mm wool fully extended so it's at least something for now. Thank you again.

    how did you handle the wind Kim, always a problem with macro photography.

    • @kimgrantphotography
      @kimgrantphotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly I'm not 100% sure. As this was the first time I'd ever used this new manual lens I wasn't even sure how to control the shutter speed! It was quite a windy day so I waited for the gusts to pass and then shot then images when the flowers were still. It was all trial and error. I can imagine it must be very challenging on a really windy day though.

    Hi Kim
    Watched your thoughts and comments on Macro last night, inspired me to get out into the garden today, with my micro 4/3 and macro lens, I thank you for that, also hearing your good fortune on the lens and ways of getting macro shots, I thought I’d just also mention that you an also reverse your lens and either hand hold it or purchase and adaptor that allows you to mount the lens in reverse, this will give you macro with current lenses.
    Could I ask you who/what was was the music you played to accompany your photos? I thought it very apt and fitted the theme well. Regards David
