Molly, I'm 68 with a terrible eating schedule. Sometimes I don't eat anything until 2 or 3 in the afternoon, so fasting is really a practical impossibility. At our age I would not cut down on food unless your doctor agrees. If one of the Fathers don't respond here in the comments, you might inquire of your pastor or diocesan office. They may have some guidance on the best way for seniors to fast.
Molly, I too am in my 70’s and realized becoming a “prayer warrior” for different needs eased my feeling useless in this world. Any sacrifice when offered sincerely to the Sacred Heart of Jesus through the Immaculate Heart of Mary is worthy and potentially fruitful. We may not see the results of our sacrifices in our lifetime but trusting in Jesus takes care of that. God Bless🙏🏻.
I believe after the age of 59, fasting is a personal choice & not a requirement. I offer up many different things, as I'm 55 & on insulin, so fasting is an improbability for me. (been on insulin for 40 years, so I've come up with many ways to sacrifice & offer things up in lieu of fasting.)
