  • “Mommy was very bad.” James Bond (Daniel Craig) meets Silva for the first time in SKYFALL. In the first draft of the script for Bond 23, the villain was simply called “Javier Bardem” in anticipation of casting the actor in the role.
    Directed by Sam Mendes.

      That's a tough call as to the best line, but it was damn good. Bond was absolutely unflappable here. Silva tried his best but he couldn't rattle him. Both performances were top-notch though, and I'd have a hard time making the call on who had the upper hand in this entire scene. The give and take was an even match for sure.

      While that line was superb, the best is the way Bond looks at him and says "resurrection". That hit Silva hard, even though Bond failed his MI6 test Silva knew then and there Bond is far more dangerous under real life pressure.

    One thing i really liked about Silva is how he genuinely had a bit of compassion for bond. He showed bond that M sent him into the field even though he had failed his tests and was not fit enough for duty. He is also sympathetic to Bond when he sees the bullet wound on his chest another courtesy of M

    • @user-gc9qk7fo1w
      @user-gc9qk7fo1w หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I think the compassion is mostly feigned -- he sees great use in Bond and would much prefer to have him working with him. Killing him would be simple here, he reveals that his motivation is to recruit Bond to his cause and killing Bond in Silva's mind is always optional and available to him. His plan is to enter MI6 whether with the assistance of Bond or by other means, but prefers to have Bond's assistance to stick it to M personally for his perceived betrayal. Notice that Silva is fixated on the appearance of Bond having been betrayed and doesn't consider that Bond has M's trust and confidence to execute the mission.
      Actually one of the most believable and realistic villain encounters / tied to a chair scenes in a Bond movie I've ever seen. Hands-down my favorite writing and portrayal of a Bond villain, ever.

    I don't know if Silva was bisexual, homosexual or any kind of sexual at all. It doesn't matter. His intent was to freak Bond out, to make him insecure and shake his footing. When Bond, the avatar of classical masculinity, responds that he has no issues with this scenario and that there is nothing un-masculine about homosexuality, Silva is instantly rebuffed and switches tactics. He starts to exploit Bond's relationship with the women he cares about, namely Severine and M, knowing that is his true weakness.

    After Bond insinuates that he might like men too, the bad guy stops it, and this reminded me of a female friend of mine that managed to escape rape once. She got picked up by a guy with a gun, he stated his intentions and put her inside the car. When inside the car, after some minutes, she realized hitting him or jumping out could be deadly, so she started to say how bad she has been needing a strong man with attitude in her life, "just like you", and started making insinuations about going out on some dates, become a couple and presenting him to her family. After hearing that, the guy decided to drop her off the car and she went home without any physical harm. She explained to me that she understood that the thrill the guy wanted was to have forced sex, so once she willingly accepted it, there was nothing for him anymore. Still, it was a traumatic experience. She went through therapy and only 30 years after the incident she started to share this story with people because no one knew about it. She cried telling me this story, it was intense to listen to, but it seems like sharing this story was the final process of her healing, she is doing fine now, always smiling, laughs a lot, and like telling jokes 🙏🏻

    This scene was so amazing - Silva was trying so hard to convince Bond that what M did was a betrayal, but only in fact reinforced that Bond was her favorite. Clearing him for field duty despite everyone else saying not to? What else is that but favoritism & relying on Bond?

      You can bad mouth bad movie audiences all you want, but they are that way because most movies demand it of them. When a movie demands an audience full attention, the audience will shut up and listen. I'll never forget watching A Quiet Place in the theater with a packed audience. Everyone was trying to be just as quiet as the characters in the movie. Nobody wanted to be the asshole who broke the silence, I could hear people eating their popcorn as quietly as possible. Furthermore - it had a real fun immersive quality where I became afraid of making sound just like the characters.
      The point is - it's easy to underestimate people and prove yourself right. It's great to see a scene like this (better than any in A Quiet Place) and hear your story of how it still effects an audience.
