  • Cheap and pedal drive kayak aren't usually found in the same sentence. But, here we have one of the lowest priced pedal drive fishing kayaks on the market today: the SEASTREAM ANGLER 120 PD. This pedal drive fishing kayak is geared towards the budget conscious kayak angler that wants to make the move from paddle fishing to pedal fishing.
This review is completely non-biased. I have no affiliation with Seastream or Feelfree kayaks and paid for this kayak in full.
I review the manufacturer specs and features, then give a summary of my opinions on the design and performance. Finally, I get it on the water and demonstrate the function of the pedal drive, rudder, seat, etc.
If you like this video, consider subscribing to the channel as I will film many more videos demonstrating how this kayak performs while fishing for many different species and types of waters. I will also create a video or two explaining what I did with this kayak to make it fishing ready.

Good video. I have one as well. Great kayak for the price IMO. Peddle Drive is excellent. Any drive you put your GoPro on will pick up the internal vibrations/noise. That is the nature of camera microphones when attached to any sort of drive motor casing
I find the kayak moves along nicely when paddling as long a you raise the peddle drive out of the water.

I bought 2 December of 2022 and we've had them out a few times and it is rather stable but... that pedal drive needs some R & D. It not only is it tough to peddle. Feels like you are peddling up hill on your bike. It also made a rather loud humm as you peddled it. About what an electric trolling motor sounds like on full. I call the dealer and he said it needs some break in time and it should quiet down. I sure hope so...
I also can't get my review to post on their site. That I found odd.

Thank you for your review. I have the same exact model and I agree with absolutely all your comments. One other thing I found annoying is how much water comes through the scuffer holes while moving forward. (if you don't have anything covering them)

Yes very true. I plan to put scupper plugs in the two bow holes to avoid the showers.

I just bought this same kayak. I agree the seat is poorly engineered. Thanks for sharing. BTW, how did you mount the go pro to the drive? Can you do more in depth of how you did some of the mods, like the storage container and the go pro?

Thanks. The GoPro mount is a 3M adhesive mount by GoPro. In the spring I can make a video of how I attached the storage container.

I've watched about every video for the Seastream Angler 120 PD kayak and would really like to see this one in person before purchasing. I've contacted dealers, however, the dealers I've spoken with do not stock Seastream kayaks. Where did you purchase your kayak or did you purchase yours from an internet site? What time of the year did you purchase yours and if you purchased from an internet site, was there a long lead time?

I found mine used online from Chicago. I'm not sure where to buy other than online at Austin kayak.

With pedal drive removed, is there a blank off to cover the hole to increase standing space?

I realize it's reasonably priced but, really? No cupholder.
How hard would that have been

Is it worth the extra weight transporting over the flash?

I would say definitely for the improved stability and capacity of the Angler 120PD.

I bought one, used it for about a month, sold it.
    Pros:
    1. Inexpensive - I paid 1169 shipped to my door for mine.
    2. Durable hull - 1 piece hull seemed really tough, and it has a replacable skid plate on the back.
    3. Reasonably fast - I topped out at about 5.2 mph, comfortably cruised at 3.5.
    4. Stable - I was able to stand and cast. Not super comfortably, but I could. Cut through waves well.
    5. Comfortable seat - plenty of 8hr days on this, no problems.
    Cons:
    1. Steering - TERRIBLE. The cables broke after like 3 trips, pieces fell off, the handle broke, etc.
    2. Poor assembly - seat and drive didn't sit quite right in the rails. Seat squeaked loud as hell even after silicone spray.
    3. Seat placement - too low. Your legs are pedaling at an almost upward angle.
    4. No dry storage - the whole inside of the kayak isn't utilized. Hard to run wiring through.
    5. Handles- nearly impossible to pick up over your head because of the stupid floppy handles. Makes cartopping harder.
    6. Weight - self explanatory, insanely heavy compared to similar length kayaks.
    7. Drive - it seemed solid, but it was loud and the tension adjustment system seemed janky. It's hard as hell to get in, you have to stomp on it to get it to fit in the hole deep enough to latch.
    8. Unitrack - why did they use these? You have to get adapters to use normal rail accessories, and the adapters SUCK. Doubled my time taking stuff on and off.
You really do get what you pay for. I strongly recommend getting something better than this if you fish frequently. Ended up with an Oldtown 120 pdl, really should have started with that.

Would a nucanoe unlimited or frontier 12, with pivot drive, be a contender? In your opinion.

I guess in the realm of PDF it is inexpensive but still at 1500$ it is to much

does the seat adjust so you can lounge? I dont know how to explain it but does it angle so you can lay back more?

    • @americanvarietyoutdoors
      @americanvarietyoutdoors  2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes you can loosen the seat strap on each side to recline the back. The straps are pretty long so I think you can adjust quite a bit.
