Nearly sucked dry by Super Metroid -- Suit stays on Nuked by Mother Brain until she can't move anymore -- Suit stays on Beat senseless by an Omega Metroid -- Suit stays on Tackled down a giant shaft by Meta Ridley -- Suit says on Blasted unconscious by Dark Samus -- Suit stays on Infected to near-death by X parasites -- Suit stays on Shot by some random guy -- OH GOD I CANT TAKE IT (faints)
Well considering you need mental stability to keep the suit on, i guess the biggest reason to be mentally inestable is seen a friend betray you or shoot you in the back......but yeah the transformation in this game is ridiculous
For whatever reason, this cutscene reminds me of the episode of Time Warp Trio (the history-themed Discovery Kids cartoon series) where two guys accidentally end up in Ancient Greece and the third guy ends up in a restaurant on the edge of space-time, and towards the end, all three are faced with "certain death". That was my favorite episode of the show because of the "triple death threat". I guess I like seeing characters complain about there impossible situations...
Some isolated moments made Other M worth it. The activation of the Gravity Suit gave me goosebumps!!! Screw the fact that I had just witnessed human sacrifice. The Gravity Suit "entrance" was freaking badasss!!!
@blzdout But Ridley wasn't Ridley in this one. And yes, that was Nightmare in Fusion. And the Adam dram was more intriguing because we knew very little about him and we slowly learn that him and Samus were "close". Now in this one they are Daughter and Father? On top of that Adam had more of character in Fusion even though he wasn't really there. In Fusion he is kinda like a wall that talks and Samus loves him like a father because Nintendo tells us, so we are just supposed to believe it.
@Submitr They're never mentioned by name, only by very vague references. Adam states that, unlike her, he's only human. (Chozo blood) Not to mention, Samus had no other way of knowing Mother Brain controls the metroids, since the Chozo did that to control the metroids when they created them.
@AnthoFlex I read, on TV Tropes, that it induced Fridge Horror. Did Adam die painlessly in the explosion or violently and horribly by having the life sucked out of him by unfreezable metroids?
@ZoeHannahan If I made this game all over again I would only make one change to Samus' appearance; that she would be taller (or at least be the game's tallest human character). I would actually leave the younger Samus completely intact, personality and all.
The room explosively decompresses, and Samus is nearly ejected into space by the air escaping the room. The solution? Gravity Suit... Am I missing something? Her dilemma had nothing to do with liquid or super gravity. At the time, I anticipated that running in one direction against the current of air would kick in the Speed Booster and save me. Instead, the Gravity Suit was unlocked. :'(
Looking back this wasn't the greatest of my decisions. However I'm still proud of saving Samus from creatures she's killed several gazillion times before. Now that I think about it, how did I manage to get to the self destruct mechanism of the sector supposedly swarming with Metroids immune to my weapons? I must just be that awesome!
Well think about it, yeah it might not have been in samus's best character BUT she's human. This game was to show her strong connection and great loss that she had with the baby metroid. In my opinion it was to show that samus had more of a "motherly" feel towards the baby. She saw it went it first hatched, was there through most of its life, and tried her best to protect it. Of course she would grow a strong connection towards it.
Yes and through out the game she gained that strong protective motherly instinct. You ever hear of the saying "You don't know what you have till it's gone"? Same applies for a video game character. She was learning the error of her ways in super metroid and eventually gained that motherly instinct. The baby protected its "mother", the mother mourns the loss of her "baby". Plain and simple.
@FlameG102 It was kinda of implied they weren't REALLY father and daughter in my comment but yes i know that. That still doesn't make any sense since in Fusion (the next game in the supposed timeline) she seems to "love" him more than that and has deeper feelings other than just a father figure.
Anyone else think that Other M just completely ripped off the whole setting of Metroid fusion? Space ship , hidden metroid lab, metroid lab jettisoned , whole lab destroyed? You'd think samus'd be not surprised when adam told her again in fusion...
in metroid fusion u talk to adam but on the computer thing and samus doesn't know that until u beat the game! and 2:20 is the new born metroid from metroid 2! this means that this is before metroid fusion and after metroid 2
Team ninja was really only involved for most of the gameplay. do keep in mind Nintendo still had their hands ass deep in other M, and the Story was nintendo written by Yoshio Sakamoto, who then tried to save face by declaring the Primes non canon "gaiden" stories.
@NicxanXIII Well done? We watching the same thing? It was a cheesy Hollywood moment that sholdn't be in a Metroid game. And even if they wanted this to happen, Samus wouldn't act so whiny. If you remember in Fusion she had moments like this but kept her strength in her emotions, and even acted stronger at times. She kept her cool even when she was meant to die, or when she found out all the crap about Adam. This scene is a great example of how nintendo just ruined Samus' character.
Because it doesnt mess her up in any way. We NEVER really were shown her personality. people only assumed she was this stoic character who is never shaken, only because she never talked. Fusion she did, and it showed that she has a very contemplative personality and tends to muse a lot when shes alone. Other M shows pretty much that, and shows her relationship with Adam more in detail. Plus, the Metroid manga already established that she is very emotional and has PTSD from her past
@SSBB231 what would be the point of keeping that suit? it had the PED in it and after prime 3 she no longer has phazon in her body so she wouldnt be able to use it
@JasondeLEpee I've been missing him since Sakamoto made Wario-Ware. Wario goes from being an invicible money collector to a micro-game manager in the course of 6 or 8 years
@Woodplain I have less of a problem with Samus's "new" personality than most others (at least it seems), but this is still pretty bad on the developer's part. I actually liked switching between first- and third-person modes though and I have no idea why some reviewers gave this game vastly lower scores (e.g. Gamespy, Game Informer, Destructoid) because of that. Still, while this was emotional at the time...time to play the MGS2 theme over this cutscene!
I really dislike they have butchered the look of Samus when wearing the Varia suit and/or Gravity suit. In Other M, the Varia suit's "bulky-ness look" is not there. It looks like an orange Power suit. Take a look at the Varia suit in Super Metroid and Metroid Prime, then you see the correct look of the suit. When carrying the Gravity suit, the colour should constant be purple, regardless if the Varia suit is on or off. Not the purple glow as in Other M when the suit is active.
@blzdout Besides the only reason it would matter that everything she fought wasn't the original is Ridley because i highly doubt it would cause any more stress if it were a real space pirate instead of a fake. But since it wasn't the true Ridley anyway, your point becomes invalid.
I believe if they had kept the original Prime 3 suit with the new Zero Suit Samus (which looks incredible) it would've been even more awesome than it already is.
@ChronoNexus No i expect her to realize what must be done, accept the situation, be sad a little maybe a tear or two (thats normal), but instead of whining and being all "woe is me", she should understand that he had to do it and move on like the strong character she is. Besides i highly doubt the last vision of herself she wants Adam to see is a weak, broken down warrior. I'm pretty sure she would want to act tough and stand strong for reassurance that she will be okay.
@Woodplain ...Let's just stick with human. While it's technically true that women are more emotional, men, no matter how tough they are, can show some.
@Submitr Nintendo wanted to go back to the roots of Metroid...without using the roots of metroid, so lots of shit is left out. WELCOME TO OTHER M, the series killer of Metroid.
So maybe in the next game they could make it so PTSD affects her gameplay as well. At random intervals instead of shooting, she freezes up and cowers, making it that much more difficult to finish the game and/or more game overs! Smells like a best seller! I'm sure if that did happen, there would be people defending that aspect as well. Was the manga even published by Nintendo?
Just one more scene of how Nintendo ruined Samus and all the Metroid games. It shows how Samus has gone from a strong independent woman that takes no shit and deals out the hurt, to the "ZOMG nooo i love you *cry cry* why does this happen to me, why is my life so hard *cry cry*". Its horrible to see such a great heroine fall into the "whiny save me plz" character category.
NOOOO!!!! ADAM!!! D': I STARTED CRYING WHEN SAMUS TRIES TO REACH OUT TO HIM!!!!!!!! This part is so gonna be #1 on my vid, "The Top Sad Scenes In Metroid". Vid coming soon....D':
@Metroidhunter60893 So your saying just take what we are given by Nintendo and deal with it? Regardless to how it changes the character all together? Regardless to how it makes no sense in the story plot? Hell, in Fusion (the next game in the supposed timeline) she literally does the EXACT same thing she does in this game. Meets Ridley, finds metroids, fights nightmare, realizes its a messed up project, and also deals with Adam drama. Sorry, i can't see how defending this game makes any sense.
"It's not necessarily me, you will see multiple people that will actually pay attention to the game and the characters true" Again, bullshit subjective entirely to no-canon interpretations of the fans, not info given by the game. "I did watch the whole video, and the guy that had made it made very valid points about the VOICE ACTOR making samus sound bad." It's the SCRIPT which makes Samus sound bad. The voice actor did her best. And that's FAR from the only thing wrong pointed out in that video
I'm afraid I may have a revelation that may shock you concerning Samus' fight with Mother Brain. You see, if Samus did not kill Mother Brain at that moment, Mother Brain would've killed her, and essentially did kill her if not for the infant Metroid (calling the infant Metroid "the Baby" is hereby not authorized). Survival is not revenge.
Impressions? Are you implying I'm not who youtube clearly shows I am? Shame on you sir! And no, unfortunately that was me in Other M. I was under contract you see, none of us were happy about it. I recall Samus said something along the lines of "Finding Sakamoto and forcing him into a morph ball. Manually." As for me I was just happy to not be a computer this time.
1. I did watch the whole video, and the guy that had made it made very valid points about the VOICE ACTOR making samus sound bad. 2. Saying "I don't know nothing" only further proves my point that you really don't know anything. (it's "I don't know anything" for your information) 3. It's not necessarily me, you will see multiple people that will actually pay attention to the game and the characters true, raw emotions rather than dismiss it as being "out of character". Also, Umad bro? ;|\
03:32 this is what you call Cute lil thing is going to Eat your Brains time. I was thinking this was not going to be as creeopy Has the Prime Games but No This Gave Me chills. Just Started the game not long Ago Too. That Rodent Biord Larva Ridley Form Gave me the creeps When Samus look behind her and it was thare lol. And How did she lose her suit any how.
@Woodplain Sorry but i don't wanna see a great character fall prey to the Tsundere waifu~ bull crap that floods the japanese gaming and anime market. She can cry, thats normal, but she is so emotional that she is losing her to those emotions, something the Samus from every other Metroid wouldn't do. Even when she fought Ridley all those times, saw the baby metriod killed, or when all that drama with Adam appeared in Fusion.
@SuperDenizen well my explination is that the game wasnt created by retro soo yea... or the same to whoever made the 2d metroid games (i own sum metroid games but i forgot the game publisher dudes..u know what i mean). this game was made by team ninja.....get over it....dont get me wrong im a metroid dude (just collect the games and like the games, and read the manga thats all) and i was disappointed by sum of the things in the game like ur complaint.....but o well the game is awesome though..
@3bulletproof16 Yep. That is why i give a shit about this. Because unlike most people, i don't like it when a character i grew up with gets a complete turn around. How you like it if one of your childhood heros/characters/whatevers and made them the complete opposite of what they were?
". enduring and killing mother brain for the revenge of the baby's death as well as saving the universe " That's what YOU and YOU ONLY interpret. Samus had faced the Mother Brain before, yet there was no Baby Metroid. Again, don't use bullshit and PERSONAL INTERPRETATION nontheless as arguments. Claiming I don't know nothing doesn't prove me wrong. And analysing and pointing out plotholes is far more reliable than claiming it to be a movie. WATHC THE WHOLE VIDEO!
The Gravity Suit looks GAY, Samus Zero Suit can reshape itself to her regular armor? why can't it reshape into the Original Gravity Suit in Super Metriod, instead It's just a purple glow.
@Submitr well she did in her past games like zero mission is one and the primes well the 1st prime in ways.............but give it a little brake ok lol she or the games (not this one)....already explained the chozo countless times....its like teaching the same thing over and over and over again lol
That's bullshit. She never gave any signs of that in super Metroid. You want to interpret that, but she didn't. And to anyone wanting to say that was for technical limitations...even more bulshit. Games with more simple graphics and animations had expressed more. And that's just the top of the iceberg on the inconsistences in Samus' personality /watch?v=pX4mhp-8sOc So, any objections?
The more I see from this game, the more it pisses me off. It looks stunning, the 3rd person view has potential and the fighting looks really run. Yet they ruin it with awfully linear gameplay, the opposite of what /metroid is supposed to be, a terrible story, awful voice acting, and worst of all, making the heroine so stereotypical and weak it hurts. Samus being a bad ass and working alone was one of, if not the, best feature she had. Breaking down randomly at the sight of something she's seen, and beaten, many times, is just ridiculous, as is playing second fiddle to everyone else in the story that seemed to matter. That gravity suit is lame as hell too. Why does it just suddenly unlock itself? The suit looked crap in this game anyway, why make it worse with some crappy aura?
The upgrades are off because Samus wanted to impress Adam. Honestly if Adam said something like "Look Samus, we're in a shoddy space station where one wrong shot could fuck up everything. Please don't use anything like power bombs or plasma beams until we had a look around alright?" and I would've been fine with it. The Varia and gravity suit things however are just dumb.
@@xTHEBEASTxx Dude, no, you've got that badly wrong. I know the writing is so awful that it makes it feel that way, but Other M was supposed to be AFTER Super and before Fusion in the timeline. The game literally starts with a recap of Super in the very first cutscene, with her fighting Mother Brain's 2nd stage. That's why her breakdown is so nonsensical. Timeline is: Metroid (NES)/Zero Mission (GBA) The Prime series (GC/Wii) Metroid 2 (GB)/ Samus Returns (3DS) Super Metroid (SNES) Other M (Wii, if it was still canon) Fusion (GBA) Dread (Switch)
Nearly sucked dry by Super Metroid -- Suit stays on
Nuked by Mother Brain until she can't move anymore -- Suit stays on
Beat senseless by an Omega Metroid -- Suit stays on
Tackled down a giant shaft by Meta Ridley -- Suit says on
Blasted unconscious by Dark Samus -- Suit stays on
Infected to near-death by X parasites -- Suit stays on
Shot by some random guy -- OH GOD I CANT TAKE IT (faints)
+Deadman10 LOL
That made my day lol.
Well considering you need mental stability to keep the suit on, i guess the biggest reason to be mentally inestable is seen a friend betray you or shoot you in the back......but yeah the transformation in this game is ridiculous

That was my favorite episode of the show because of the "triple death threat". I guess I like seeing characters complain about there impossible situations...
I thought Samus was the only human left in the whole frickin' universe?? xDD
even though they can kill you, metroids make the cutest noises :3
Some isolated moments made Other M worth it. The activation of the Gravity Suit gave me goosebumps!!! Screw the fact that I had just witnessed human sacrifice. The Gravity Suit "entrance" was freaking badasss!!!

I actually stayed attached and understood it very well, so much I actually start to tear up from this. :(
That was... Funny.
I mean, Samus was investigating side to side and then a cute Metroid "jumps" into the scene xD
@Submitr They're never mentioned by name, only by very vague references. Adam states that, unlike her, he's only human. (Chozo blood) Not to mention, Samus had no other way of knowing Mother Brain controls the metroids, since the Chozo did that to control the metroids when they created them.
YAY! :) Adam said his famous "No objections, right lady?" line
Samus understands Adam. He's more than a friend, he's family to her. A father figure.
He's got to be one of the worst fathers to exist then.
@AnthoFlex I read, on TV Tropes, that it induced Fridge Horror. Did Adam die painlessly in the explosion or violently and horribly by having the life sucked out of him by unfreezable metroids?
Actually she does mention her parents near the beginning of the game. It was a few sentences but she did mention them.
@ZoeHannahan If I made this game all over again I would only make one change to Samus' appearance; that she would be taller (or at least be the game's tallest human character). I would actually leave the younger Samus completely intact, personality and all.

@JasondeLEpee Apparently, some people told Sakamoto for it to be purple but he refused.
12:49 what is that music called? I love it so much.
I must just be that awesome!
it's also after super metroid as the ending of super metroid is shown in the beginning of other m
@Varukiri Well, it's considered canon so it was likely WRITTEN by Nintendo.
Well think about it, yeah it might not have been in samus's best character BUT she's human. This game was to show her strong connection and great loss that she had with the baby metroid. awww i want a baby metroid, and if he tries to kill me I'll put him in the fridge :3
@Submitr most of them were killed by the Space Pirates and some remnants transcend their physical bodies and went to a far beyond plane of existance
in metroid fusion u talk to adam but on the computer thing and samus doesn't know that until u beat the game! and 2:20 is the new born metroid from metroid 2! this means that this is before metroid fusion and after metroid 2

@VileTheReject No. This is between the first and second Nightmare battle. It not part of the ending.
Never played this but correct me if Im wrong but isn't 0:50 the speed booster?
Does she ever mention the Chozo? Whatever happened to those guys
@NicxanXIII Well done? We watching the same thing? It was a cheesy Hollywood moment that sholdn't be in a Metroid game. And even if they wanted this to happen, Samus wouldn't act so whiny. She gave that thing as a mere biological sample at the beggining of Super Metroid, for fuck's sake!
@VileTheReject Sorta. Just to face the Phatoon. I'll make the video when I bother to play the game again since the Wii isn't....a console of favor.

So he died in the Sector 0 self-destruct right? D':
Such a tear-jerking moment...D':
@blzdout Besides the only reason it would matter that everything she fought wasn't the original is Ridley because i highly doubt it would cause any more stress if it were a real space pirate instead of a fake. But since it wasn't the true Ridley anyway, your point becomes invalid.
Han Solo would have made this part a lot more realistic, "Don't get cocky"
I just hope the next game in the series is a sequel to fusion. Since you know what happened in the end. Just imagine it. I think it would be cool.
@SNES Nes Yeah it sure did and happy for it and at least it will be finally finished hopefully or continued
I believe if they had kept the original Prime 3 suit with the new Zero Suit Samus (which looks incredible) it would've been even more awesome than it already is.
because in fusion he was dead and did not have a body
in case your wondering the important part is at 10:27
@Submitr
did you forgot the incident with the B.S.L. station?
9:20 , Adam says "I wish I could battle Ridley" ?
Adam doesn't die, he becomes a computer!.....
no really, his mind is in a computer. :/
I'm pretty sure she would want to act tough and stand strong for reassurance that she will be okay.
g@Submitr She doesn't. It's a gaping plot-hole so large that you could drive a Gundam through it.
@feinecro I made a point ? All I was saying that whatever she faced in Fusion, they have all become X-Parasites. That all. Including Nightmare.
@feinecro Except in Fusion. Everything she faced weren't even them.
THERE WAS ELEVATOR MUSIC!?!?!?
father figure. Never said they were father and daughter. she sees him as a sort of surrogate father.
so what happened after the credits? the game did start over O_o
he he he i knew they genetically enhanced metroids to be more resistant to the cold
@Woodplain ...Let's just stick with human. While it's technically true that women are more emotional, men, no matter how tough they are, can show some.
@Submitr Nintendo wanted to go back to the roots of Metroid...without using the roots of metroid, so lots of shit is left out. WELCOME TO OTHER M, the series killer of Metroid.
a giant slap in the face! who else thought we where gonna fight a resurrected mother brain? lol
See, nobody complains about how they derailed Adam's character, but they totally did. In Fusion, he was not tight-ass with a stick up his butt.
@feinecro ...hhehehhee... did you complain about Optimus and the flames and the long nose and stuff.... lol

Just one more scene of how Nintendo ruined Samus and all the Metroid games. Baby Metroids are pretty fucken cute.
I finally figured out who played Samus's voice! Kristen Stewart!
Oh....my....gosh....
I started bawling
???
That big booty of zero suit samus😇
It is absolute perfection, the best thing in the entire universe!
NOOOO!!!! ADAM!!! D':
I STARTED CRYING WHEN SAMUS TRIES TO REACH OUT TO HIM!!!!!!!!
This part is so gonna be #1 on my vid, "The Top Sad Scenes In Metroid". Vid coming soon....D':
Is this Samus's administration??
I honestly thought that the speed booster and the graphics was the only thing good about the game
Does any1 kinda notice that Adam Malkovich kinda sounds like "Adam Malko-BITCH!" lol
Sorry, i can't see how defending this game makes any sense.
samus aran is hot

The giant living planets the killer.
Man the Gravity Suit sucked in Other M... i liked my purple arms and legs better. Purple Aura ftl.
samus has...feelings?!
i wish i had a baby metroid ;)
Wait, shit what? seriously? A cliff hanger?
wow the comment list is full with the same dudes xD
@3bulletproof16 Yep. That is why i give a shit about this. Because unlike most people, i don't like it when a character i grew up with gets a complete turn around. How you like it if one of your childhood heros/characters/whatevers and made them the complete opposite of what they were?
It's still not consistent with her character(the whole scene is just a gargantuan mistake)
". enduring and killing mother brain for the revenge of the baby's death as well as saving the universe " That's what YOU and YOU ONLY interpret.
@rubyjuly94 yes. :(
That's bullshit. She never gave any signs of that in super Metroid. You want to interpret that, but she didn't. And to anyone wanting to say that was for technical limitations...even more bulshit. Games with more simple graphics and animations had expressed more. And that's just the top of the iceberg on the inconsistences in Samus' personality

So, any objections?
if your gonna do impressions, at least admit that the adam from other m was an imposter
I know this comment is 7 years old but if you followed the lore this game takes YEARS before the the first game for the gameboy
Timeline is:
Metroid (NES)/Zero Mission (GBA)
The Prime series (GC/Wii)
Metroid 2 (GB)/ Samus Returns (3DS)
Super Metroid (SNES)
Other M (Wii, if it was still canon)
Fusion (GBA)
Dread (Switch)
@@leerobbo92 ah OK I never payed super the first metroid game I had was metroid fusion
@darrinstampe Haha agreed.
