      I live in Amish country in Virginia and they shop at walmart, drive to the grocery store on tractors. When some of them go out they usually hide their clothing through beanies and jackets so its kind of odd to see them driving a tractor with all their winter gear on when its 80* outside. Good people, they keep to themselves and never cause any trouble. We also get charter buses full of them every summer at the local hotel. One year Im gonna ask them what they are doing.

    I drive for the Amish here in Indiana. We had a tornado go through late one Friday night. Many Amish farms were hit, and many large buildings were destroyed. By the following Tuesday, every building was replaced by a new one, and some even had additional buildings added to their farms. This included siding, windows, and doors... excluding garage doors. Still some fences and small buildings to be dealt with, but these people don't waste a minute! They sent a couple hundred men from other Amish communities to help. It used to be that way when i was growing up... everyone helped everyone else. It is sad our communities don't do this anymore.

    To all the people saying they aren't true Amish, it totally depends upon the sect and their bishop as to how many and which modern conveniences they are allowed to use. They are typically allowed to use more modern tools for the purpose of business. I hope they did a good job, I live in the heart of Amish country, just cause they're fast doesn't necessarily mean good, there are definitely Amish crews that run around this valley who do shoddy work (some do very well)

We went to my distant cousins farm who was Amish and heard the whole way about no electricity, no cars etc. Got there and they had newer cars than us plus buggies along with the biggest TV I ever seen that we weren't allowed to watch with satellite dish. They had 2 big lazyboy recliners in front of it. The pig roast was probably best food I've ever eaten in my life though.

    • @kameljoe21
      @kameljoe21 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@koDaffi Many Amish are rich and they sell wares are a premiuim because people some how think its better.
      For example you can buy Amish pints of jam for 7 plus dollars when it cost less than 1 dollar to make and buy the jars. Keep in mind the amish who make jelly buy pallets and pallets of jars and lids for a fraction of what you would if you bought a case. They also buy tons of sugar and tons of what ever they are going to can. They sell this to people at a massive mark up.
      I can a lot and can put up 100 jars of jelly using my kitchen. Imagine what they use and how many more people they have helping, Even after paying them a good wage they make bank.
      The same thing goes with pretty much anything else the amish make and sell.
      Keep in mind most amish are educated no more than just before highschool. Yet they know how to get the worldly people to pay big money.
      As for these construction crews because they work with a lot more people they can do all the work needed in a day rather than several days as a normal crew would and it still cost the same high price.
      The Amish work mostly for cash and taxes that they do pay do not include SS and medicare. Nor do they pay unemployment, workers comp or anything else that a normal company would have.

    They dont charge like a union company. They also don't pay most of the help. Their mostly family members and are doing the daily chores if you will. That is why theres so many on the job site.

    • @bobwild9995
      @bobwild9995 ปีที่แล้ว

      True, one job site I was on, they had "apprentices" working, 14+. They moved over to another site, on a state highway, and Osha nailed them, they packed up the buggy and left town, never to be seen again. The fine was quite large. I'm sure the apprentices were not around when the inspector was there........

    The Amish/ Mennonite community are very hard workers. They raised a barn roof on an Amish auction after a tornado tore it off , took them 1 day. It's a mega barn. Basically as big as a super Walmart. It was in Indiana. Awesome to watch.
