The amount of Kaisers on that mission was BS. That is really absurd levels of top tier units, which no single Usonian mech can counter. The Knox is a really fun mech however.

Supporting Israel and installing the shah of Iran were the main US engagements in the middle east in the immediate aftermath of WW2. We even sided with Egypt in the Suez crisis against the UK, France and Israel. At this time our efforts were more focused on Asia and Latin America. Communism triggered us more than oil until the OPEC crisis in the 70's.

Because of US involvement in the Middle East since the 70's I feel like people forget how small of a presence we had in the region, particularly the Arab world, immediately after WW2. Supporting Israel and installing the shah of Iran were the main US engagements in the middle east in the immediate aftermath of WW2. We even sided with Egypt in the Suez crisis against the UK, France and Israel. At this time our efforts were more focused on Asia and Latin America. Communism triggered us more than oil until the OPEC crisis in the 70's.

Maybe in that timeline the oil reserves that were found in mid 1920s IRL never got prospected, so an actual restrictions on domestic production were put in place.
