I love how at the end it didn’t focus on who won because rocky doesn’t care. He just wanted to go the distance and be with his girl. He just wanted to be there and show what he’s got.
Rocky 1 and 2 are two of my favorite movies. They show such heart and soul. He went through so much to get this one out and I think it shows throughout the movie itself. 🐾🐾🍻
"You're gonna eat lightnin' and you're gonna crap thunder!" Fun Fact: Sylvester Stallone was inspired to write the screenplay after seeing the Chuck Wepner-Muhammad Ali fight on March 24, 1975, at the Richfield Coliseum in Richfield, Ohio, near Cleveland. The details of that fight is beyond the scope of this comment, but the Creed-Balboa fight parallels that fight in many ways. Making Lemonade Fact: In the film, the poster above the ring before Rocky fights Apollo shows Rocky wearing red shorts with a white stripe when he actually wears white shorts with a red stripe. This was an actual mistake made by the props department that they could not afford to rectify, so Sylvester Stallone came up with the idea for the scene where Rocky points out the mistake himself. The comment about Rocky's robe being too baggy came about the same way - the robe delivered to the set was far too baggy for Stallone, so rather than hope people wouldn't notice, the character himself simply points it out. Guerrilla Filmmaking Fact: Most of the scenes of Rocky jogging through Philadelphia were shot with no permits, no equipment, and no extras. The shot where he runs past the moored boat for example, the crew were simply driving by the docks, and John G. Avildsen saw the boat, and thought it would make a good visual, so he had Sylvester Stallone simply get out of the van and run along the quays, while Avildsen himself filmed from the side door. A similar story concerns the famous shot of Rocky jogging through the food market. As he runs, the stall keepers and the people on the sidewalks can clearly be seen looking at him in bemusement. While this works in the context of the film to suggest they're looking at Rocky, in reality, they had no idea why this man was running up and down the road being filmed from a van. During this scene, the famous shot where the stall owner throws Rocky an orange was completely improvised by the stall owner, who had no idea that a movie was being filmed and that he would be in it.
MoMoMyPup10 ...Nonspeaking extras need only a waver. I wouldn't be surprised that got them as they were going. I know of no lawsuit about this movie and extras, so they either signed or didn't mind being in this movie. Go in Peace and Walk with God. 😎 👍
One of the best movie franchises of all time!! Sylvester Stallone was so persistent and strong about him playing Rocky that he held off until they agreed, even though he was so broke. Now decades later, this movie still holds up so well and draws in new fans because of how great it is and how perfect he is in this role! 😅
Fun fact: the producers tried to convince Stallone to delete the girl's scene, saying that it unnecessarily dragged out the film and that audiences would be bored because "nothing was going on" (i.e., there were no punches) in it. Stallone refused, and the public reaction proved him right. Many even said that the character won them over then. A man who worries that a girl who isn't even her family swears, shows that he is not a jerk with good fists, but someone with a good heart. James Stewart said that it was from that scene that he began to like the film.
Well said, I think that can be applied to everyone else who feels like life is a constant boxing match with plenty of jabs, hooks, and uppercuts that leave us black and blue, but we still get back up and we keep swinging until we've finished the fight of life in a glorious blaze of glory
Yayyyyy!!! You finally reacted to Rocky!!! Thank you! I love the whole franchise! Rocky has been my lifesaver; motivates me during the toughest times of my life. Keep punching! 🥊🥊
Great reaction! 😊 I love this movie series! One of my all-time top 5 of favorite movie franchises. One thing I love about this movie in particular is that it's not only a movie about boxing. But it's the beginning of the love story between Rocky and Adrian. Sylvester Stallone is perfect as Rocky Balboa. And Carl Weathers is also fantastic as Apollo Creed. Fun Fact: Sylvester Stallone wrote the entire screenpl for this movie in three and a half days. Definitely looking forward for your Rocky/Creed journey. Looking forward to your next reaction. 😊
"When that bell rings and I'm still standing then I'll know that I wasn't just some bum from the neighborhood." That's not Rocky Balboa talking it's Sylvester Stallone laying out his hopes
Glad to see you do this for the "Road to 'Creed III'". The "Rocky" franchise is certainly dated in many aspects, but it's also endearing in so many more aspects. There's a reason why it's endured as long as it has. Enjoy the ride! Seeing Rocky go from his own journey, to a supporting player in the "Creed" films is truly something to behold.
I loved the Rocky movies the first time I saw them! I'm rooting for you, Timothee! Go get em, champ!!! 😂😂 Seriously though, I love that you're including these reactions in your TH-cam channel. I definitely love a good underdog story with a lead protagonist you can root for, and with a nice little romantic plotline you can root for.
Talia makes a better Adrian than she does a Connie. A few years after Godfather and she nailed what would become her signature film role. Her and Mickey (Burgess Meredith) were really the only known actors at the time, and it still carried the Best Picture Oscar. Stallone's remarkable journey begins.
One thing cool about the first Rocky was that they didn’t have much money to put into the film (less than 1 million), yet the box office value was 225 million! Shows how everyone loves a genuine, underdog story
While back I got a punching bag I was actually just beating on it a couple minutes ago but One thing I learned since I got it is that it's a workout it's not just all about throwing punches like a good 30 seconds just really going at it and you're tired like I mean tired. I mean granted it only takes 10 seconds to recoup after that kind of Aggression but none the less you know a few minutes of beating on A bag and you're tired I imagine that rocky is training cardio because when hes in the ring the fight could last up to 15 minutes and he has to have the stamina to keep Punching dodging weaving and not get too tired.
It was problematic regardless. If someone tries to leave, you don't prevent them from leaving and corner them. I'm not sure what the writers were going for there.
Director of this and Part 5 is the same director as Karate Kid. Cardio is just as important as the skills in boxing as this was still when they could go 15 rounds so potentially 45 minutes of fighting. Championship level fights only go 12 rounds now.
Great reaction! You’ll love the rest of the series . If you haven’t seen the 2002 movie “Snow Dogs” that should be put in a poll to watch. The rest of your subscribers might not like it but it’s one of my favorite
Fun Fact: Sylvester Stallone made a announcement for best supporting actress at the Oscars. But he’s not alone… Muhammad Ali was there at the 49th Academy Awards
I love 1 and 6 and the Creed movies. I think you inadvertently know the other actors, Talia Shire was Connie on The Godfather and Burgess Meredith (Mickey) played The Penguin on the Adam West Batman TV show and movie.
It absolutely is more of a love story. Because of the bombast of the later films like "Rocky III" and "Rocky IV", the first movie kinda unfortunately gets lumped in with that "sports movie" excess reputation. But the first film really only has boxing at the very beginning, and the very end. The crux of the story really is Rocky's relationships, not only with Adrian, but his support system like Mickey & Paulie as well.
Cardio is important because if you get tired and short of breath in the middle of the fight you get your ass kicked by the other guy. A fighter can manage to beat a stronger and more skilled opponent if he has more stamina and he waits to tire the other guy out and takes advantage of it.
Apparently Stallone was was chasing acting jobs for years, finally got the one as stand in being the guy getting beaten up and he couldn't stop smiling during that scene because he was too happy he finally got to be in a movie. Afterwards he wrote Rocky and only agreed to have the film done if he would be the lead role. They wanted the movie so they had to take him to. Apparently.
The reason Mick told Rocky to stay down before the last round is for 2 reasons, he was obviously fine, and can use the extras seconds to catch his breath without getting pummeled by Apollo and get up in the last few seconds, and it runs down the clock too. It definitely wasn't because he didn't think Rocky could win, it's a tactic.
I’m not sure that’s the reason. I think he was trying to protect Rocky from taking any more punishment. Rocky had taken an absolute beating and despite their tumultuous relationship throughout the movie, Mickey cared for him.
Fyi every egg white is 1 gram of protein so we used to eat 20 boiled eggs just the white part to get our protien also. And raw eggs always in our shakes
So boxing rules rely on points if the boxers go through the full amount of rounds (thus why cardio is so important, don't want to be gassed early), usually there's an odd number of judges who tally all the landed punches they see as points per round, due to the odd number it'd be very rare to have a draw - but not impossible. In this case Creed won by split decision, 2 judges voted he won while one judge voted that Rocky won, however, in the context of the movie it didn't matter, Rocky didn't need to win he already got to prove himself and be with the woman he loves. I would encourage you to do the sequels because most of them are good too, Rocky is Stallone's best character and his relationship with Adrian is wonderfully pure. But you're not too wrong with the similarities to the Karate Kid, though it's more that Karate Kid has some nods to Rocky, in fact they shared the same composer, Bill Conti, for some movies, and some of the songs used in the Karate Kid movies were initially proposed to be used in Rocky movies.
There's a video I feel you ought to check out while doing this series, about how across the (at the time it was made) seven movies in the franchise, Rocky illustrates every major style of montage as defined by Sergei Eisenstein. Fun fact Rocky 1 is very expended too Much money to make. Stallone decided to sell his dog at the pet store to make money for the film, that dog appears when Rocky went to see Adrian. When the movie was success he went to buy bring back his dog but the owner put Stallone dog higher money price to buy, Stallone was angry at him and he decided to pay his dog and together reunite.
It doesn't matter if he wins or loses, he still gets paid the 150k. That's how boxing contacts work. Win or lose, your pay is your pay. Also yes, a lot of boxers, especially back in the day did not have sex while training for a fight. There is some science to it.
Rocky’s kind of like Pollyanna lol. Trying to bring people happiness even if they don’t seem to appreciate it. XD Yeah, I still think Rocky was too pushy with Adrian on their first date, apparently he was going to shoot his shot IMMEDIATELY rofl. Not that it would be the best idea IRL whatever the case, but I assume they’ve at least known each other for some time. It’s funny that Rocky says you have to be an idiot to box for a living when we see how savvy Creed is.

This is kind of painful for me to watch because it hits me that Stallone could have been a great actor. When this first came out people were saying he was going to be the new Marlon Brando.
I think the film is good, but not Best Picture Oscar winning good especially over films like All the President’s Men and Taxi Driver. When it comes to this series of films it is best to go One Two and then stop. The score is great though and Burgess Meredith was nominated for Best Supporting Actor for Mickey.
