It's interesting to see that someone who's clearly strong like the guy at 6:50 doesn't stand a chance for the simple reason that he's too short and his fingers can't wrap all the way around.
Good show mate, I had an accident lumbar disc bulging when trying to lift the same, newbie should take precautions before lifting such heavy weight, its permanent damage and I regret it..
It really is about technique more than brute strength. It's 220 lbs, not 500 lbs. Having a tight grip, letting your legs do most of the lifting and keeping your arm straight and locked. We have a young lady in our gym, she's 17 years old, and she is able to clean and jerk 240 lbs.. Yes it took a lot of training and she's using 2 arms, but she's also putting the barbell over her head and locking her arms out. She will be the first to tell you that much of it is technical. We don't encourage her to do this very often because she is young and her body is still developing. Lifting this heavy at an early age can cause a lot of problems later in her life. PS- before anyone says anything, no, she is not using PEDS.
When I saw the constable, I had to laugh. Not because he couldn't lift it. I applaud him for trying. But, it reminded me of the great Ricky Gervais talking about his older brother, when a constable dropped his ticket book, whilst writing them a ticket.
