Yes it is somewhat possible, (depends on the situation) however the equipment and skills needed to reball a new processor to a board outweighs the cost of a new laptop / PC. Also, most of the time a new gpu chip isn’t compatible with the board. (Specific pin types etc)
I wish laptops were upgradable like they were from back in the day when you could actually upgrade the CPU over even GPU in this case. Now of days you'd be lucky to have even an option to upgrade your memory.
@BlitzAce-pj9jr gotta love planned obsolescence. They only put 8gb in laptops under $1000 so you have to keep buying the cheaper laptops every so often. It’s really infuriating
Before Graphics Cards and Processors were permanently attached to the motherboard. In 2000 until 2018 and today, Laptop Motherboards are modular to replace the CPU or GPU, and other things to complement or power them such as batteries, cmos batteries, hard drives, and Ram too. But after 2018, most laptop brands no longer use modular motherboards, because it is considered not very efficient or takes up space. And also non-modular laptops (without replacing the cpu and gpu and removable batteries) are considered more compatible and simple while the price of production costs is quite cheap.
Good short Isaac, I suggest having a bigger heatsink to accommodate the temperature of that GTX 980m, there are a few in Ebay but if all is well, no need. Happy gaming and may that gpu serve you well.
I did some further testing with MSI kombustor to see how bad the 1 heatpipe cooler is and it started thermal throttling under load so I got the dual heatpipe cooler with the larger cooling block and the fan is now able to keep the temps under 80C about 78C on average at 100% load
That new GPU is going to be running HOT with that original heatsink. I'd suggest swapping it out for an HP EliteBook compatible K4100M or M4000M heatsink. The heatpipes are bigger and the aluminum part will cover the entire card, including those toasty VRMs.
Last december i upgraded my MSI GT 70 laptop's GPU from Nvidia 970M 3GB to Nvidia 1060 6GB. I bought it from AliExpress on the black friday promotion for 135 euros, then sold my old nvidia 970m for 65 euros. The olny downside is that i have to mod the drivers, otherwise the card is not recognised in windows.
interesting fact about the graphics card that can be removed from the laptop when buying a gtx 1080 for a laptop or if you had it you had the full performance of the gtx 1080 because the laptop version of the gtx 1080 has the same number of cores, the same vram and consumes the same amount of power
Yep! The 980 I have is the mobile version, it’s still good but doesn’t have desktop performance. I can play a lot of games in my stream library in excess of 60 fps

Wish MXM stayed relevant. Unfortunately despite being a standard, many require BIOS tinkering and heatsink mods to fit if from a different brand than the make it was intended for, and they're often overpriced. But at the right price for your model they can breathe new life into an old Precision laptop, especially ones that take those MXM B. You can even possibly get some rtx. 10 series for sure
@@bestsupergaming His laptop was probably made when GTX 580M was out. I think it is a good question to clear out because the new GPU CARD can cost as much as £90.

Planned obsolescence that’s why computer parts only get marginally better so you keep buying more. I’m sticking with my 3080 until like the 8000 series. Then I might move up.
Long answer: to add planned obsolescence which will make consumers buy a new laptop every 2-3 years instead of every 5-10 years. Which in turn makes them more money. Also, you could argue that having every component swappable makes the laptop thicker and heavier but that’s no excuse in my opinion.

It definitely did, it works great. The gpu is not in the supported list but the hardware can definitely keep up. PCI 3.0 is backwards to 2.0 so that’s kind of why it works. If it was 4.0 it definitely wouldn’t
@@IsaacMega You see, sometimes, the reason the Bios is locked is because of potential overheating. The laptop's heatpipes won't cope. But if it worked, just monitor the temperature and apply a throttling software if problems arise. I had to do this OS speed throttling after a CPU upgrade once. Couldn't go over 2.1 GHz. That’s with cheaper laptops, Google is not always right. Older workstation laptops can have the CPU, RAM, GPU, and storage drives swapped out. Some even have three 2.5” drive bays.
I thought about setting up a second fan and separate heat sink for the gpu so I could have better thermal headroom. That would give me the ability to solder on more heat pipes. Effectively making it possible to run a 1080 in that laptop. Edit: however, I would lose the optical (CD) drive.

RDR2 is pretty demanding for an 8560 heck even for my 8770w. If you’re looking to spend more than $300 which you’ll need in order to upgrade, you should definitely consider building a used pc out of an office computer. I was able to do it for about $300, it had a 1660 super but an rx580 is better.
eGPUs are cool but if you have the room, it’s better to just get a pc at that price point. They make tons of different adapters for eGPUs so they work with a lot of laptops. However most laptop cpus are quite slow to handle a desktop gpu. So that brings me back to my first point. Get a pc. The gpu will thank you.
I have hp 840 G2 and it has Amd 1 gb card, recently I gave it for repair, now my laptop doesn't detect it, is it possible that repair man has removed it?
@@IsaacMega but I don't know how it looks like, I know ram, cpu, harddisk ssd, but don't know about gpu. I read somewhere that most laptops graphics cards are integrated and can't be removed.
Nothing is wrong with the onboard system, it’s gaming that’s the problem. Games constantly get more complicated and demanding for computers to play. Hence why we upgrade them to meet our needs. Same goes for software and browsers but on a smaller scale
New to computers? There's multiple reasons why a laptop needs a dedicated GPU as opposed to an integrated one. The choice of two GPUs, demanding tasks such as CAD or gaming, hardware-accelerated physics calculations, etc.
Bro my laptop is Dell 5480 some sources says that it supports swapping . So can you please help it out that how to get GPU for that and what max gpu can I able to install

Thats crazy that your laptop has a 16x PCIE , the fact that you cna change your graphics card or even have a external one is just crazy. Sad that laptop companies are just greedy bastards who want us to spend more on a brand new laptop
@@IsaacMega that still gives an pcie signal and is strong enough to handle the full power of the gpu not like mPCIE that can use a limited power of that gpu. Mxm to pcie adapters do exist.
@dankinel3263 at that point get a better laptop. The 1080 MXM is scalped to heck and it’s not worth the price cause it’s way more than the desktop version that u can find for $100
The 980M can handle a lot of games at 1080p60. Haven’t done extensive testing just yet but it runs car mechanic sim 2021, American truck simulator, BeamNG drive all very well.
@IsaacMega in this particular moment o can't get a desktop, I will look forward for some laptop on the black Friday, or else I will stick to upgrading to the 980
i try p3000m and mod driver and with gpu-z i read memory size 0 mb and bus width unknown also bandwidth unknown what is the problem please can you tell me
Unfortunately that’s what happens when laptop manufacturers get greedy and don’t want people having the same laptop for 15 years (ie the one in this video)
For the people wondering why I look like a noob taking four hours (actually about 3 hours) installing GPU drivers here’s why: The gpu I purchased (knowing well what I was getting into) is an MSI 980M 4GB. The 4GB model is not included in the INF files for the 980 on nvidias website. (Code 1617, the code 13D7 is for the normal 980M) So why didn’t I just get the drivers from HP? Well the gpu that I installed is not on the support list on HP’s website so I knew I was going to have to find a way to brute force the drivers to install. I went in circles with various driver versions for about 2 hours (my internet is slow) before I found a laptop modding site that walked me through how to code and decode the INF files to tell the driver it was safe to install. And there you have it, if you even read all the way through this lol. Edit 2: There is an easier way to install the drivers using device manager.
Can a graphic card and (i3 processor i. E to be replaced) can be put in an Aio asus pc pls help bro mr with this doubt coz im not getting any answer for it on the internet and i think u can only help me up😢
Depends if it has a socket and isn’t soldered to the board. If it has a swapable cpu, gpu and ram. U can do it. All you have to do is take it apart to find out. Look for “tear down” or disassembly tutorials

eGPUs are cool but if you have the room, it’s better to just get a pc at that price point. They make tons of different adapters for eGPUs so they work with a lot of laptops. However most laptop cpus are quite slow to handle a desktop gpu. So that brings me back to my first point. Get a pc. The gpu will thank you.
Bro just sleep 💀💀💀💀
I have hp 840 G2 and it has Amd 1 gb card, recently I gave it for repair, now my laptop doesn't detect it, is it possible that repair man has removed it?
Best thing to do is check the inside yourself! What repairs did the repair man do? It might tell us right away if that did happen.
@@IsaacMega but I don't know how it looks like, I know ram, cpu, harddisk ssd, but don't know about gpu. I read somewhere that most laptops graphics cards are integrated and can't be removed.
@farazsshaikh if it’s integrated then they probably didnt remove it. You need extremely expensive equipment to do so
Why does a computer need this? What’s wrong with the onboard system? I don’t have any issues doing my work with the integrated graphics
I quite literally said that but thanks for your input. 😂
im actually confused rn, why does your think pad have hp branding?
🤣🤣🤣
Dell upgrade 🤔💀
Bro this was like 2 years ago
Not everyone has 4090 money 😭🤣
Gigabyte G5 kf5 2024 is upgradable ???
Probably not, you might be able to upgrade ram and storage
Im new to this. How do you find what GPU area compatible with your laptop. I want a nvidia for my intel but no clue where to get it from.
You get them on eBay, I’m still working on a full video explaining how to do it properly
@@IsaacMegaamazing please keep working on the vid i really feel nvidia dropped the hall with the mxm line i think it only went up to the 1070-2060mxm
It’s a really long video cause I’m explaining every single upgradable part in a laptop
Bro my laptop is Dell 5480 some sources says that it supports swapping . So can you please help it out that how to get GPU for that and what max gpu can I able to install
Do you mind telling me which laptop that is?

I have a similar laptop and for some reason my laptop gives me shit ton of BSOD and then it switches gpus from quadro K3000M to a grid k2.. Any tips if how to fix that
You’re gonna need to update the gpu drivers. I am working on a video on how to do that if it doesn’t download at all
Its an old laptop that why its possible
Old laptops ftw
i have the same laptop and i also want to upgrade from the quadro k2000m to an better card but i was wondering wich are compatible could you help me?
Any of the 900M series gpus work. Just make sure to get the two heatpipe cooler for anything at or above a 970M
I am STILL working on the video explaining how to get the drivers working
I Have checked my Laptop There is No Complaints about souldering(Sorry if I Bottled that (Messed Up))So i should be fine
It’s not a complaint really, if the gpu is soldered to the motherboard you can’t install a gpu
Would a 4090 laptop gpu work?
🤣🤣🤣 Your funny.
Honestly I wish it would to be honest
Thats crazy that your laptop has a 16x PCIE , the fact that you cna change your graphics card or even have a external one is just crazy. Sad that laptop companies are just greedy bastards who want us to spend more on a brand new laptop
It’s not a PCIe slot it’s MXM, and yeah it’s nice to be able to upgrade the gpu. Not all laptops have an MXM slot
@@IsaacMega that still gives an pcie signal and is strong enough to handle the full power of the gpu not like mPCIE that can use a limited power of that gpu. Mxm to pcie adapters do exist.
This is true, and yes I know.
Framework has a replacable GPU module now for their 16 inch laptops. Way more convenient than this whole MXM rigmarole.
Sounds cool, but not everyone’s made of money.
did i see a HDD?
Yes but that’s a secondary drive. The OS is on an SSD that’s stored below a card reader
@@IsaacMega oh ok
Where do u buy the gpu?
Ebay
@@IsaacMega thx
Your welcome
I have the same model of laptop, and i was thinking about upgrading the gpu too, there is something any better than the 980?
Yes the 1080 but the laptop can’t handle it thermally
@@IsaacMega so i shoud also change the cooling system, is it worth or its better to change laptop directly?
@dankinel3263 at that point get a better laptop. The 1080 MXM is scalped to heck and it’s not worth the price cause it’s way more than the desktop version that u can find for $100
The 980M can handle a lot of games at 1080p60. Haven’t done extensive testing just yet but it runs car mechanic sim 2021, American truck simulator, BeamNG drive all very well.
@IsaacMega in this particular moment o can't get a desktop, I will look forward for some laptop on the black Friday, or else I will stick to upgrading to the 980
i try p3000m and mod driver and with gpu-z i read memory size 0 mb and bus width unknown also bandwidth unknown what is the problem please can you tell me
No no, the driver modding is done through device manager, I am working on a video that walks you through on how to do it
how to fix this
memory size 0 mb and bus width unknown also bandwidth unknown
@laminecrazy16 u need to force the driver to install if the basic driver doesn’t work. That way the computer will know what the gpu is
Where can i buy that gtx 980
Bro , I'm having asus rog g75vw with gtx 660m
Whats the highest card I can put in it
how do you handle the power ?
It’s the 980M, the lower power version.
Runs at 105-110W at 100% load just fine
thanks God i dont have modern laptop lol
Real, I can’t believe how proprietary laptops are nowadays
Is it possible to upgrade hp omen 15 with new groahic cards or processor ?
Look into forums about people upgrading your laptop.
@IsaacMega apparently it's not possible someone told me so I don't want to be disappointed 😅
Unfortunately that’s what happens when laptop manufacturers get greedy and don’t want people having the same laptop for 15 years (ie the one in this video)
What computer is this?
Look at the bottom of the pinned comment
Where did you get that laptops gpu
eBay
I thought laptop gpu is not replaceable? im confused
Only in certain laptops can you swap the gpu
For the people wondering why I look like a noob taking four hours (actually about 3 hours) installing GPU drivers here’s why:
The gpu I purchased (knowing well what I was getting into) is an MSI 980M 4GB.
Edit 2:
There is an easier way to install the drivers using device manager.
It's a shame that Windows just doesn't come with its own drivers for everything.
The drivers had to be force installed cause the gpu wasn’t on the laptops support list, even though it actually does work.
What laptop is that?
Pinned comment, at the bottom.
What laptop is this??
Bottom of the pinned comment
bro what model your laptop
HP Elitebook 8770W
What about gpu out of laptop in a pc?
Idk if they even make an adapter for that. If they did it wouldn’t even be worth it considering how jacked up the prices are for MXM gpus.
better than gtx 1650?
About the same
i ma get a gtx 980 ti@@IsaacMega
Mobile or desktop gpu, cause if u want an RTX 3060 for $100 get a 1080
Can a graphic card and (i3 processor i.
Thx for the kind information
Please make a full video brother
It’s still in the works and will be worth the wait for sure
@@IsaacMega tq for quick reply.....love you brother ❤️

Can i upgrade gpu in my laptop gtx 1650 ti old gpu nividia geforce gt 645 m 😢
Check the MXM version, see what higher gpus are on that MXM version and buy that gpu
bro can you tell me that hp elitebook folio 9470m support graphics card or not?like 2gb ones
