  • The M45 is due for some maintenance items so in addition to changing the oil and intake filter, we uncover the mighty V8 by taking off the plastic engine covers.

    Btw just for next time or those reading infiniti service manual for the m45 says
    Screw oil filter manually until it touches the surface , then tighten it by 2/3 turn. dont tighten as much or hard as you can

    When doing an oil change you dont have to remove the whole splash guard. You can remove the fasteners on one half and fold the shield down. There is a perforated area on the shield to make it easy to fold and access the pan and filter.

    Under panels are very important during high speeds. They're annoying but there's a point to them! And they keep things clean down there

      The cooling system is designed with the covers in mind. i.e - a low pressure area in the engine bay to draw cooling across the radiator.

      Well shit I better put mine back on then. Didn’t have any temp problems running 120-135 mph for 20 miles though.

    Yes this guy has this all wrong!!! And absolutely do not remove and discard all the covers especially the bottom one. I’ve been driving my 2003 M45 since new and changing my oil too via the small access panels on the bottom you DO NOT have to remove the entire air road shield an NOR should you..it’s there for a reason, air flow underneath the car and protection from road debris. Don’t take it off!!! My car has lasted me 18 years and runs like the day I got it, best car I’ve ever owned. People like nice clean engine compartments and original factory condition, remove all that furniture and you devalue your car, undo it’s function and it looks like crap. Nissan designed the M Series beautifully, change your oil but leave it be...

    *Things you should always do to a 2nd hand car to return lost horses are,* (as you said, Oil filter and Oil change, New Air filter), *but also remove the MAF sensor and clean it* with MAF sensor cleaner when dry replace it back on the car and plug it in, *And clean out the Throttle body* with a throttle body cleaner.. there is no need to remove it from the car, you only need to remove the air intake tube.. I'm not sure if you get these cleaners in the states, they both come in spray cans..

      Cleaning that MAF sensor and throttle body will also make the car run better and get better gas mileage. Judging from the air filter condition I would say the car needs that done.

    On the undertray, I have an Infiniti M35X. I took off the undertray once then noticed there is a small panel right over where the oil filter is. You just undo a couple of plastic fasteners to access the oil filter.

    I tried to cut the opening window on the plastic thinking that would work to get easier to get to the filter without taking off the cover...don't do it...it waste of time...I just took the panel off...

    I have a 2003 Infiniti m45 I was wondering if you knew where the alternator is located ?

    • @EatSleepDrive
      @EatSleepDrive  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it's laid out like the later M45s(which I'm pretty sure the engine didn't change that much) it's at the front left of the engine bay(if you're at the position where you open the hood). Follow the drive belt in the front of the engine bay because the alternator is powered off of that belt.

      Well, you should get a free motor from Nissan then because that's what they told you to use. But dont worry, I only use 10w40 because I'm in the south. The 5w30 is too thin and burns too quickly. You do lose 1-2 mpg though

  • @westschleife

    You can use a heat gun fix the drooping belly pan. On my M45 Sport it would drag over some speed bumps.

    do you ever plan on tuning the car?

    • @EatSleepDrive
      @EatSleepDrive  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not really outside of some bolts-ons(exhaust/intake). I don't really plan to touch the ECU. Maybe if there was more aftermarket support I'd consider it but UpRev is the only tuner I know of and it's pretty expensive for a marginal gain.

      Well I get 16.8 it says when I drive “regularly” the city but I’ve noticed on road trips from San Antonio Texas to Dallas ( 5 hours ) I can get her up to 18.5/19 but it all really depends

    Hey I just me M45 but I have a code P0154 Bank 2 Sensor 1 where and which one is it... Thanks

    • @EatSleepDrive
      @EatSleepDrive  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      In this V8, bank 2 refers to the passenger side. Sensor 1 refers to the O2 sensor BEFORE the catalytic convert. So if you replace the passenger side O2 sensor on the header that should solve your problem. That is assuming that the sensor itself is bad and there aren't any wiring issues. Good luck!

  • @illitero

    It's dingalings like you that take stuff off for no good reason at all and kind of ruin it for the next owner. You were able to see the intake plenum JUST FINE with the cover on. Like, those things are kind of dumb, I agree, but they serve a purpose. Granted, it's mostly aesthetic shit, but by removing the stuff all you're doing is revealing things that weren't intended to be revealed. So your engine bay went from tidy to dirty and exposed with hanging clips and brackets. That looks much worse haha. But on a more serious note: removing those covers potentially disrupts intended airflow, temperature and water control. You're only exposing the engine and wiring to the elements, which is kind of like leaving a dog outside in a storm. And you wouldn't leave a dog outside in a storm, would you? :'( hahaha

      Why is that? The m45 is highly underatted and overlooked. One of the most reliable used cars you can buy, plus I can attest to that seeing that I own one as well. Power, luxury sporty Ness. And BTW you remove the far ones inward towards the transmission and fold it at the fold line that the engineers designed so you don't have to remove all the bolts smart guy😂
