I'd like to see you set up your drum kit in tenor format. Cymbals ,Toms all in Tenor config .
And try to play both basic grooves and then alternaive grooves highlighting the "Tenorrness" of the set up.

I think balance isn't so hard if you keep the bass in the middle. Keeping the total weight as low as possible, that's the real challenge.
I think inspiration should be taken from the so called cocktail drumsets.
