The first 23-minute short documentary in Tel Aviv was received pretty well, so I wanted to continue the series with this 29-minute short doc from my experience in the West Bank/Palestine.
Like I said in the previous video, I think this part of the world has become the most fascinating adventure I have ever, ever been on. Check the description for a breakdown of the segments, if you ain't got the time and just want to skip around.
Oh, and regardless of your view of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, I hope you sit back, relax, and enjoy the show (and learn something). Next up: Asking A Former Ultra-Orthodox Guy (who i met in a club) Every Question I Have About Jews and Judaism, and Everything You Need To Know For Your Trip to Israel & Palestine. Two more videos!

And the war between them has created wounds that didn’t heal already. Would be interesting to see how it works there with different religions, languages, cultures and if it works out well or not.

  • @toqabadran2720

This video is a gross misrepresentation of the situation. This is not a "conflict" where "both sides" have "radicals" that "mess it up for everybody." This is a colonization project. The Israeli government isnt some extremist group-- it is accurately representing the violence of Israel's sheer existence. The Palestinian people are not all some "extremist" group-- but they suffer collectively in ways the regular Israeli does not. Lastly, the Palestinians did not get angry because the Israelis wanted to flee discrimination and wanted to stay on their land. Palestinians Jews have existed on the land for millennia with Muslims and Christians. There was no need for the Israeli STATE to come in with the violence it did, to murder and displace millions. I honestly cant tell how you said some of the things in this video and equated the oppression experienced by the Israelis and the Palestinians while literally yourself being in an open air prison.

I recently started watching your videos on the other channel and grown to like your content, that's why this video was recommended for me. But tbh i am very disappointed by your point of views on this trip.. As you have been to both sides of the country and listened to the lives of the Palestinians and isr**lis first handed from where they live, you listened you saw and your final outcome that the problem is as a result of the wall.. it shows how narrow minded your perspective is on human struggle and inequality, trying to portray such deep problem as another berlin wall example.
And your persistent effort to try and be biased show how much you're actually unbiased about the Palestinian struggle. It really basffles me to see a person who has been physically there and decided to ignore all the very evident issues. As a person who haven't been to any side of the country and just listened to Palestinians and watched what i saw on the news -even before the current gen**de- i couldn't for a second be biased about this issue
I think white travellers should stop projecting the world from their narrow mindset. If not then i guess it's better to travel within their white minded countries or stop trying to appear as "world citizen" bs

Its not a religious conflict. Its a colonizing project. 'Israelis' actually had 3 different locations they were deciding to make the country of Israel, one in south America. To pretend that these people have any rights to the land is the equivalent of colonizers who felt they had the right to America. Palestinians have lived their since FOREVER. Many of them were Jewish generations past, eventually converting ti Christianity, and then some Muslim. But LET THIS BE CLEAR, it is NOT a religious conflict. Zionism is not judaism. In fact Jewish people who are anti zionist are gaslighted and excluded from their community for standing up. Its important to understand that its not a conflict: it is AN OCCUPATION, an APARTHEID.

Palestinian Arabs themselves wanted to be part of Greater Syria and then wanted to be part of Jordan that's why their flag is copied from Jordanian flag. Damon, this video gave me chills. I applaud you. This video is extremely poignant and in my opinion accurately represents the conflict. Truth be told, while I am half Italian, my mother is Jewish. I made my bat mitzvah. Technically I am an American Jew but I am far from a practicing jew. As such, accordingly, it is allegedly my god given right to visit the holy land as I was entitled to a free 10 day trip to Israel, called "birthright." I'm sure you have heard of the trip and the organizations. The purpose of birthright is more or less pro-Israeli propaganda. So while Palestinians cannot even get a permit to visit Jerusalem and other locations in Israel, I was given a free 10 day trip there. Suffice to say, I don't believe that these sort of arrangements are helping their situation. On my birthright trip, a trip filled with 40 Americans, we were only told a very pro-Israeli story. This is not helping. If only individuals from both sides could sit down, have a glass of tea, or smoke some shisha together, more would be accomplished. I don't support the occupation. I don't support violence, segregation, separation, and a denial of equal liberty. This is one of the best TH-cam videos that I have ever seen.

Correction @ 1:18 Israelis did not suffer religious persecution, nor could they have fled to Palestine because of it, because neither the country of Israel nor the people existed before 1948. Jews, however, from many national backgrounds, did of course experience horrific persecution. Israel is a colonial project and was politically created at the expense of Palestinians who owned and lived on the land for generations before. Palestinians are oppressed and oppose the occupation, not because they just didn't want them moving in, but because Palestinians were driven away, had their literal homes stolen, became second class citizens and placed under military occupation. I think its great what you're trying to do here, but its important to keep language and history accurate. Religion is not the same as Nationality.

As our prime minister once said "If the arabs dropped their weapons, there would be no more fighting. If Israel dropped it's weapons, there would be no Israel".... This was great, and I agree that not enough people are being objective about this conflict. Everyone deserves to live in peace and live where they choose to. As someone who grew up with Native American teachings land disputes are always a rough thing for me. The land doesn't belong to anyone, everyone simply has a duty to invest in the place they call home and give it respect. These lands give us so much, and because of that we shouldn't be denying others the right to live and find growth in a land they choose to call home. That being said causing bloodshed, violence, producing hate, forcibly removing others from these places to call it yours or to live there isn't right. There is never really a right and a wrong in life, and if everything was that black and white so many conflicts or "wrongs" in this world would have quick and swift punishments.
On to other things, how did you react to the sea? You were lookin' fiiiiine in dem shorts boo! Imagine if Tinder was open to both sides and people just had dates at the wall talk about peaceful resistance. Was there someplace you found the most beautiful or most interesting that wasn't in the video? And your black and white joke at the end made me laugh. Thanks for the video and as always in all the videos produced on this channel going through things with an open mind.

You spent TIME on that comment and I appreciate it ❤️
For the entire time in Israel and Palestine, I kept thinking of how similar it was/is in terms of the Native American land. Every time I explained the situation to friends and family, I used that example.
In terms of my favorite place or moment, I can truly say that the Banksy Walled Off Hotel was just so crazy fascinating to me. That, and when I met the German family in my dorm. I honestly want to go to Berlin and hang out with them!
The only issue I have with traditional travel journalism is that there isn't much room for jokes, as some subjects are extremely sensitive. I enjoy making this type of content, but I also love making lighthearted, feel-good content!

Hey Damon, I really love your channel and I admire your brave initiative going to Israel/Palestine. Unfortunately, you included more than several parts where you/other people you met make completely false statements about the conflict. With a channel as popular as yours, it would have been so much better to conduct thorough research about the situation over there before arriving them, and have the conclusions you made in mind as you go about editing. For example, what you said about Israelis and Palestinians not allowed to communicate with one another on Tinder - a completely false statement. This is precisely how erroneous ideas and statements make it out to the world and further intensify this non-ending conflict.

I don't even know what to comment, there is so much to process after watching this, and so many thoughts...
I'm Israeli Jewish, I'm aware of the unequal and difficult situation at the West Bank. But I never been there, if to say the truth, I'm afraid.
I have Palestinian friends who tell me to come, some say it's better not too, specially to not talk Hebrew, and it made me scared. Also there is some very bad stories.
The thing is, as an Israeli (from all religions) we have the option to not see or deal with it. What there is in the video look like a war zone.
I hope for peace 🙏 for all of us, I hope for mutual respect between us... And maybe after many years of two states our children will take the wall off🙏
And I hope we will found a way to communicate between us without our governments mediation or they will learn to work together.

Because I'm Arab (+German) and Muslim I feel like my upbringing has embedded some prejudices in my mind but I don't want to feel that way. I understand both sides but still. Taking away so much from the Palestinians isnt right in my opinion.

Trump might have been the president who carried out the US Congress decision (adopted by both the US Senate and by the House) that the US embassy will be moved to Jerusalem, but he wasn't the one who made it in the first place. It was a public law passed back in 1995, but president after president were reluctant to carry it out. The thing is, Jerusalem IS the capital of the State of Israel, it has been the capital of the Jewish people for over 3000 years and no peaceful Palestinian state will ever change that. Moreover, even considering any other fate for the eastern part of the city is basically rewarding the Arabs for the ethnic cleansing that they carried out there back in 1948. If they hadn't done that, there still would have been Jews in the eastern part of the city as well as in the western part. Heck, back in the 1840's, a British survey indicated that the Jews were no less than the majority of the population in the old city of Jerusalem. The newly founded State of Israel right away, in 1948, declared its capital to be Jerusalem. With its history, it was never going to be any other capital. So if anything, it's abnormal that Israel is the only country out there that has the world dictating whether its choice of a capital is acceptable or not. In other words, it's the fact that most countries don't have their embassies in Jerusalem that's the affront to Israeli sovereignty, which no other country in the world has to tolerate. Just imagine if, once Germany was reunited in the 1990's, the world would have refused to recognize Berlin as the German capital because of the former division of the city that would perpetuate the disparity and discrimination against the citizens of East Berlin... That's a real problem that Germany has had to (and continues to) deal with, but no one would ever dream of telling Germany it doesn't get to decide its own capital...

The Palestinians are essentially a stateless people. They have their own organized government (though in the midst of a civil war) with minimal international standing, and the UN doesn't even involve them within negotiations regarding the fate of their own people and state. Jerusalem, being the holy epicenter of the world, is desired seeing as it represents some significance in every abrahamic faith's history and or practice. Preferably, Jerusalem would be an open city with no state controlling it, but both sides have their views about this dynamic. If Israel were to just grant the Palestinians some sort of recognition and statehood, then peace negotiations would be in some form (hopefully) more just and on the horizon. But this is just one side. The Israeli people are targeted immensely by surrounding Arab states within the Arab League, and therefore are skeptical of giving away some sort of power in fear that they will once again face travesty and prosecution. In keeping this power, the Israeli government has, ironically, become the prosecutors themselves. I hope that some sort of peaceful wave calms the Middle East, because if not it may come crashing down in its totality due to several encompassing conflicts. Videos like these give me sort of hope that people will realize the humanity within us all and that voices in the general public will someday be truly louder than those in disconnected suits.

WTF? American help for Palestinian hasn't stopped, the US administration simply said it refused to continue funding terrorism, so in order to continue to get US funds, all Mahmoud Abbas had to do was agree to stop paying salaries for Palestinians who carried out terror attacks against Israeli citizens. He refused to, but he can change the situation at any given point in time. He's just not interested in doing that. But that doesn't mean that the money that isn't going to the Palestinians is handed over to Israeli. Seriously, dude. It's one thing not to get the complexities of a conflict with a long history, it's another to state stuff that isn't true at all...

Just out of curiosity, what makes taxi drivers such an authority on the history of a conflict? And if they are, did you also talk to Israeli taxi drivers? Was that not interesting? In any case, the Palestinians don't have a military, they have security forces (closer to police than to an army) which Israel not only agreed to in the Oslo accords, Israel actually handed the guns to the Palestinians as part of that peace process. Tell me, how is it fair, you advocating that the Palestinians use the guns Israel gave them as a part of a peace process in order to shoot Israelis? But the sad truth is that some of those guns actually were turned by Palestinians on Israelis and used to murder them in vile terror attacks. That's a part of why the Oslo peace process ended up dead in the water. How surprising that your taxi driver didn't mention that.

I totally understand people's desire to "see both sides" and it is true of course that there are good people everywhere - but it's like calling South African Apartheid a "conflict". It is not. One side, the Israelis, have SO much more power, access to resources like water and electricity and military aid in the billions from the USA, that we need to call it what it is. It is an occupation, it is apartheid, it is genocide. It is too late for some Palestinians. They have fled their country or been trapped inside, they've been harassed and humiliated, denied basic human rights, separated from loved ones, and have died without seeing them again. We need to support a free Palestine.

Visiting Israel in 2019 is not like visiting it in the fifties or sixties. You were exposed to a new generation of Israelis that might oppose their government and seek reparation and to you seem like good people. The whole concept of making a home for jews by demolishing Palestinians' homes and displacing them in refugee camps is WRONG AND INHUMANE. The reason why a peaceful one state or two state solution is such a conflict because Israel has to make huge reparations for the Palestinians in order to correct the damage it has caused and possibly make them forget the years of oppression they suffered.

  • @ellabartal4652
    @ellabartal4652 5 ปีที่แล้ว +8

So, my solution as an Israeli:
It's weird, because I will define myself as a left-winger, but I do support a different kind of a one state solution.
So, hear me out, it is weird, it takes time to get used to, but honestly I think that this makes the most sense:
A one state solution, two people (Jews and Palestinians), two governments.
That basically means two elections, no need to move anybody (neither Palestinians, Jews or Gazans.), Two prime ministers and all equal rights.
That gives both the Palestinians and Jews a representation in the government, the two governments will work together to achieve maximum comfort to all citizens, and there is no way to a religious outtake to happen, because both governments balance each other.
That's kind of a carzy solution, but it might just work ,given that most Palestinians and Israelis want a one state solution.
    I'm probably just crazy...
EDIT: I'mma like my own comment..

As an Israeli who supports Israel and the IDF 100%, I am applaud and ashamed by the behavior of those soldiers on that tower who allegedly toss their trash in a Palestinian cemetery. If this story is in fact true, it is outrageous and by no means reflects the spirit of the IDF. I'm sure that if the media found out about it, it would make headlines.

    • @talisamohi
      @talisamohi 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@Clara S. I agree that settlers throwing trash around is disgusting, but this is the only correct point you've made. Killing innocent civilians?! Are you kidding me? Clara, I appreciate your good intentions to support and bring justice to whoever you falsely consider as the utter victim here , but trust me, you are another classic example for a tourist who's taken a tour in Palestinian territories, was shown some stuff there, was told some stories and now thinks they know enough to judge who is "good" and who is "bad". Well, you don't have the slightest idea. I'm not gonna even start telling of all the wrongs - ranging from "small crimes" such as property damage and stealing to actual blood shed and murder of Israelis ( not necessarily settlers) -are done by Palestinians much more frequently than you are reported about on the news you listen to wherever you live (however, thanks to the wall, the number of victims has decreased significantly since it was built). For sure, there many more innocent Israelis killed by Palestinians than vice versa. Palestinians who've been killed by the army are not innocent at all. They are terrorists, and they are killed for a reason.
