I bought my 02 bugeye last week it’s one of the most amazing car I’ve owned, it came with a HKS exhaust that the previous owner had put on but everything else was stock I currently have three cars and the bugeye is one of my favorites next to my 88 Supra
1 year update, car is at 166k miles and the stock turbo finally decided to start letting go of it's coolant seal and push coolant out the exhaust on hot startups, just threw in a brand new stock replacement on my day off and the car is back to feeling great and still getting me to work every day🤙🏻
Bought a 13 WRX a couple weeks ago. Seemed like the perfect choice (until it breaks.) I don’t like the look or sound of the new ones but still wanted bluetooth and some more modern gizmos. Now if I can just learn how to drive the damn thing.
2:08 Just to add some extra info for everyone; The G in GC, GM or GF means it's the Impreza line of vehicles. The C, M or F is the chassis code. Ironically, C is sedan. M is coupe. And F is wagon. Feel free to confirm this in the General Information section of any Subaru Factory Service Manual (FSM). Specifically in the section that breaks down the VIN (Section 1-3). To add to it, the 8 in GC8 and GF8 are the engine code. In this case: a turbo'd EJ20. In the US, this series has two models, the GC6 and the GM6. This is specifically the Impreza 2.5RS. The 6 meaning an EJ25 (NA) and they made slightly more C (sedans) than M (coupes). Subaru'd yet to bring a turbo charged engine to US shores.
Right now I’m a 14 year old and my dream car is the 22B. I’m also having a hard time explaining to my ‘non-car-friends’ why I like a 20 year old Subaru when they just say things like “I like Ferrari’s”. Anyways, I’ll keep dreaming until then...
Excellent video as usual. I actually came close to buying a '06 STi 14 years ago. That was about a week before I drove an Evolution IX. The STi had a lot going for it. Today, 14 years later, I still get a thrill every time I drive my IX.
Honestly, the bug eye and the blob eye are my favorite as far as looks go, it's very unique. After that I think the Impreza looks like every other new car nowadays. I wish they would come up with a more unique look.
i own the bugeye type had a blobeye but preferred the bugeye looks so i kept that instead hawkeye looks good too imo i feel like the gd cars 2002-07 were the best looking cars
Wow that's a lot of good info. I like how FHI actually listened to fans/buyers, unlike Nissan which has left the 370z to stagnate other than cheesy cosmetic bs. Wish FHI would bring us a 2 door sti coupe!
Informative video but you forgot the RB5, P1, all the spec Cs, Cosworth CS400, Litchfield Type 25 to name a few. I recognise some of these may be UK only but what about the JDM STI versions 1-10?
Got a 2016 WRX about 3 weeks ago and I'm completely in love! Was thinking about waiting to see what the '22 WRX was all about before I made my purchase, but I'm glad I didn't...
Subaru is known for making 4 door sedans and wagons in their performance cars. The rarest among them is the Impreza WRX STI Type R (2 door). Extremely rare as it was only available in Japan if I remember correctly. Probably the only Impreza I would consider buying if able to do so. Still an educational video.
Interesting evolution of Subaru. Got myself a bugeye and im happy with it. But subaru tho has its common problems like the spark plugs which are difficult to change if it is your first time. Blowing up head gaskets and they dont like to race start.... But at the end a verx unique car to daily drive...and thats the cool thing about this car. Its properly fast even stock. It looks fantastic and it has no problem daily driving it. :)
You in the US? If so, you mean a GC6. The G series Impreza's never came with a turbo'd EJ20 (that's what the 8 means in GC8) to the US. The C means sedan btw.
RA stands for Race altered.. not record attempt. It’s the car without electric windows etc as it’s ready to be Race altered. Sometimes called rally altered.
in '06 I bought a '00 Impreza GT Turbo 555. They didn't call them WRX here, and the 555 was a stripped down base model lacking ABS and airbags for a cheaper price. With a price of €26k new, you had a 200bhp+ AWD rally car. I don't think any other brand was cheaper, like Escort Cossies or Lancer Evo's.
When WRC told the media about the switch from a 2.0 wrc cars to a smaller 1.6 in 2011, I felt hurt that Subaru, technically left the sport too early in late 2008, in which they could've been staying for until 2010, if it weren't because of that global recession in 2008 that is
They stopped WRC but Still rallying in USA competition. VA STi will be the final version and pinacle of EJ257 STi that Subaru have been building since blobeye.
Worth mentioning, as it is something many people overlook, that the WRC competition Impreza's stopped being "true" Impreza's in 1996. The 1996 Impreza 555 was the last of the Group-A cars. From 1997 onward, they were all based on the WRcar Kit Car spec. And under those WRcar rules had significant changes in chassis geometry over the previous Group-A models. Particularly in the rear suspension, where the Impreza had consistently struggled in the GC platform cars. It is also worth mentioning that, without Prodrive, the entire legacy of the Impreza in the rallying world would be completely nonexistent. It was Prodrive who pushed the original Legacy to be a competitive car, and practically had to beg Subaru to allow them to move forward with the Impreza as a competition chassis, after seeing the success of Toyota and Mitsibishi with their smaller Celica and Lancer platforms against the new Ford Escort. Of course it was immediately successful in the hands of Colin McRae, and they sold it as a big success. Later on, the WRC drivers and constructors titles would come from the WRcar spec Impreza's, which also wouldnt have happened without Prodrive chairman David Richards involvement in the WRC, as the TV rights holder, pushing the WRcar spec for the sake of trying to entice more manufacturers without the financial burden of producing a special assembly line for a Homologation special Group-A car. This gave Subaru, and conversely Prodrive, a leg up on the regulations adoption, and the limits of rules interpretation. Pretty much all of Subarus success rests on Prodrive's shoulders. Everything from their WRC victories, to their record on the Nurburgring with Tommi Makinen, and their record run around the Isle of Man TT course, are all because of Prodrive. Yet the Subaru and STi brand take the credit for the achievement. Kind of funny when you think about it. A Japanese brands success is because of an old guys shed in Banbury.
I really appreciate your video. I purchased a new WRX in June and absolutely love the way that car drives.. it just wants go!!! Anyway, thanks again for your video, keep up the good work
First gen was the best, but blobeye doesn't come far behind. The first gen had the most types and variants which made it stand out and it looked great. The blobeye also looked really mean, but it just falls slightly behind the first gen.
Blob and Hawk STi's were my dream cars but against all odds I ended up buying Bugye STi. It's really not as ugly as it might look on the pictures. Absolute beast if you stand next to one!
Nice video bro, my dream car is an STi. The first time i drove one was in a auction and i was about 17yrs old not knowing anything about cars. It was a blue blob eye STi, all i knew was that it had an exhaust and a blowoff valve. I did not know what the hell was that noise, but i knew from that the car felt different when driving it. I see the STi emblems everywhere but still did not know what it means. Funny thing is that i started learning how to drive at the auction and thought my self. Now that im 32yrs with kids and haad a few cars for the family i can finally buy soon my dream car. Lets see if the 2020s are any good, if anything i stick with the 4th gen.
Good luck. Iv had subarus for more than 10 years currently a blob eye sti prodrive. Iv only ever seen 1 22B for sale in the UK and that was about 2 years ago and its price was over £100,000 and it was gone within a day or 2.
@@pedropedro9613 Its more like 500k and they are as rare as unicorns. You can pay a 100k for a low mileage P1 which is probably the closest model to 22B

Lmao. My girl jumped on the first "punch" sound when the sti logo or whatever was shown, and I laughed at her and said I hope it happens again. You didn't let me down man. Sure enough, at the end of the video when it did it again, she jumped again and I freaking lost it man. Thanks for that laugh lol.

Can somebody explain why Subaru made the Newage wagon narrower than the sedan? It must have cost a lot to run duplicate assembly lines for shorter axles, and smaller fenders and bumpers... For what benefit?
But is there any kind of aftermarket exhaust system for a subaru that doesn't make them sound like a supercharged weed eater when your going through the gears? Or a popcorn machine when its idling?
My 2011 WRX STI sedan rear badge looks more cherry blossom red than actual red. The STI badge is the only one I have on the rear. Either way I bought mine for the heritage and sound. Lol
