When I was a kid, my imaginary best friend was based on Rick Baker’s appearance in the Haunted Mansion film... I know, I was a weird kid, but, naturally Hatchet Man is a character that’s very close to my heart and it’s nice to be able to prove he’s more than just a portrait in the mansion. 🖤
My man was freinds with the ghost host

I can't say I know much about Phantom Manor Because I'm in California I can say that if you have a guy that Hung himself in The Phantom Manor then that's also the Ghost Host

@@TherealRNOwwfpooh He is the "kind host" and is pretending to not be the Phantom as to keep you from suspecting him, look at the stretching room he says "there's always my way" and starts laughing AND the Phantom appears then says HE didn't mean to frighten you. Besides, the only person he really needs to hide his identity from is Melanie.
Personally, I think that the ghost host is Amicus Arcane, the mansion's librarian. In the book, "Tales from the Haunted Mansion, Volume 1", he refers to himself to the reader, while breaking the fourth wall, as the ghost host. Another piece of evidence is that he is the only ghost that interacts with the reader, breaking the fourth wall like he does during the ride.

Agreed ever since I read tales from the haunted mansion I always thought Amicus Arcane was the ghost host

Yes! I was thinking that too! Especially since he’s very mysterious by not revealing too much information about himself and his cause of death. He knows the mansion well enough to warn characters of dangers ahead. Plus, his persona and drawings give off British, Sophisticated, and morbid, just like the ghost host’s voice!
In Disney World, outside of the Mansion, there is a gift shop for the ride that's all Haunted Mansion themed. Inside the store, there is a picture of Master Gracey, (the one in the Mansion) but there was a plaque underneath the picture that said 'Ghost Host'.

Indeed, we have some official Disney place mats that have Master Gracey, with the label "Ghost Host" under it.
Plus, the officially-released _Story & Song_ Long-Playing (LP) record narrated by Thurl Ravenscroft (the lead Singing Bust of the Phantom Five graveyard quintet, complete with his detached head separated from his white marble base) and starring longtime female Disneyland Records Story Reader Robbie Lester & _Happy Days_ era Ron Howard as dating teenagers Karen & Mike (who have unwittingly found themselves stuck in the Haunted Mansion during a thunderstorm) also, for some unexplained reason, features Pete Renoudet instead of Paul Frees nor Corey Burton as The Ghost Host, who has these lines actively inferring that, at least initially (and even for quite some time thereafter), The Ghost Host was, indeed, marketed as the owner of the Haunted Mansion: "You will not be harmed, but you will not be released until you take a tour of MY home. We have so few visitors. Live ones, that is!" ~macabre laugh~ [...] "In MY home, every room has wall-to-wall creeps and hot & cold running chills. But, it has taken time to give it that comfortable, unlived-in look." ~another dark laugh~
Likewise, a piece of actual early test recording by Paul Frees in his role as the Ghost Host for the American theme parks (excluding Corey Burton purposely doing a nearly flawless [and if I might pardon the appropriate pun] _dead-on_ impression of Paul Frees's droll tone & [again, pardon the fitting wordplay] _deadpan_ delivery for Haunted Mansion Holiday, naturally) has the famed voice actor recite his opening spiel. After he does his "When hinges creek in door-less chambers" prologue & begins his "Welcome Foolish Mortals" introduction, he welcomes us by saying, "I am your Host, your Ghost Host. The LORD & MASTER of this Haunted Mansion. Inside & outside and even between the walls of this possessed manor are ghosts, brought here from the darkest tombs of the Earth. Heinous but delightful creatures, every one. ~dark chuckle~ All 999 of them. We have room for a thousand. Any volunteers? ~the Foyer door creaks as we enter the Stretching Room~ Now you've noticed that this room contains 8 towering walls, no windows & no doors. The world is locked out & consequently, _you_ are locked in. ~sinister laugh~ And so that leaves just one little problem for each of you: To find your way out."
So, it seems not even Disney themselves are really too sure about what's solidly official concerning the Mansion's lore, as there's been glaring contradictions, one way or another, over the past 50+ years of Happy Haunting.
I know this video was made months ago. But my love for the Haunted Mansion has been thrilling for the past couple of hours lol, but I totally agree with you when it comes to The Ghost Host being the hatchet man, the noose really gives it away. Amazing video. I love Disney Theories.
I'd always thought that it was "canon" that the Hatchet Man was the Ghost Host, so it was interesting to find out that there was no official source for that!
Marc Davis is the official source, his concept art for the Hatchet Man is labeled "Ghost Host."

Our script at DL, our host is just that-our host. We’re told that he was with master gracie before Gracie was killed and Patricia took over the “invitations of the 999 happy haunts”. Again, that’s here in Anaheim
I think that the ghost host is the corpse we see in the stretching room. He says: "I didn't mean to scare you prematurely." He refers to his hanging corpse. Just my thought of the ghost host. 👻
The Hat Box Ghost is not likely the Ghost Host, because the Hat Box ghost reappearing and disappearing head, suggests decapitation as the cause of death. The Marc Davis portrait of the Ghost Host with that prominent eye, looks to be inspired by the Old Witch, from the 1950's EC comics. The EC comics included "Tales of the Crypt", "Haunt of Fear" and "Vault of Horror". They stopped publishing those in 1954, because they were considered too gruesome for children.
Little addition to this theory... I actually would say maybe hatbox is the host? I mean, severed head in the hat box... Host died by hanging which can sometimes break their neck (usually just cuts off air)
i think the people who made hatbox the host for the holiday were just disconnected from disney lore

I always thought it was the Hatchet Man, who’s believed to be the Majordomo, so he’d know his way around, but it just be me being so used to seeing him associated with the Ghost Host.
Yet, the Hatbox Ghost being the Ghost Host could be and interesting reveal.
I think Disney just wants us to fill in the blanks and come to our own conclusions. There's no definitive answer.
"Master" doesn't refer to the master of a house. It's a tradition form of address for a boy too young to be addressed as "Mister." In Scotland the lord of a manor house may be referred to as "The Master of... (house)." But the original Haunted Mansion is located in Louisiana, so the title makes no sense. Fan lore identifies him with the Changing Portrait man, but that wasn't the intention of the Imagineers.
I think Disney just wants us to fill in the details and come to our own conclusions. There's no definitive answer.

No matter how many people post negative comments. It’s still a great ride. It’s supposed to be scary, they would have failed if they didn’t scare and delight people. That’s what Disney intended.
the haunted mansions is supposed to be spooky not scary thats why its so great. I have read that in OFFICAL disney book before so it comfiermed.
Interesting Theory But I can say that The Ghost Host would be the Man that Hung himself once we go in the Mansion, My Question is who else could it be when that is where the Stretch room is at the same part where he hung himself, But if I'm wrong then we have a Mystery! Ghost host sounds too neat and well looking to be the hatchet man but I gotta believe they’re the same person.
Ghosts can be in two+ places at once if they wanted to they just prefer to stay in one place they aren’t physical beings so there is nothing that says that they have inability to be in multiple places

no, i think the ghost host is the Master Gracey, and is what i talk about in my principal theory about the haunted mansion. But i don't know, he can be the hanged man.
In the Haunted Mansion gift shop in WDW theres a picture of Master Gracey with a plaque underneath it that says Ghost Host

Honestly, Hatchet man makes the most logical sense
Here is my take: the hachct man and gracy are the same person so the ghost host is gracy because gracy is the young version of the hahct man

Master was also a tern used to adress a teenager of higher station than you but is to young for an official title and the Imagineer name of Gracie was youngest member of the team so the great stone is a joke on his age
