SID being stuck was very disturbing to me when I watched it on its first run here in the US. He was one of my favorite characters even though he was just a computerized satellite
What always got me is the policeman on the motorcycle putting the handset next to his ear , but because he was wearing a helmet he couldn’t hear anything HQ was saying back to him…🤔😂😂
I was an extremely serious program. In one episode the Russian doctor gave the captured UFO pilot a truth serum shot on Straker’s orders. It killed him. The doctor and other witnesses were disturbed. Starker was unmoved. That was very Cold War. Also the wife and lover plotting to kill her husband. Only to shoot an alien pilot who was having an extremely bad day at work
Gerry really did make our childhood Special. Firstly with Captain Scarlet etc then when he went to live acting programmes, U.F.O. was my favourite just a pity they didn't make more . There were loads of questions not answered. Godspeed Gerry 🙏 🙏.
Binge watched this last year. Some very interesting plotlines were forming as we learned the true nature of the aliens we never get to see. Ripe for a reboot IMHO.
@@fredbloggs8072 I know of Gabrielle Drake she was also in Crossroads the TV programme.. I didn't know that she was related to Nick Drake tho.. Thank you
It's really hard to follow all the programmes shown on all the networks, but hopefully UFO will be shown on Talking Pictures in due course, we've seen Fireball XL5, Stingray, Thunderbirds and Captain Scarlet so far
I always admired the design of the UFO alien craft, the transparent dome, in the right light, reveals an upper section shaped like an old fashioned spinning top. So, the perception of the craft will be as a disc from below, or a domed shape, or a top, the three distinct shapes most described in real life sightings. The plates on the lower / centre section emphasise the spinning of the UFO, and the slats described in the video reflect light so well that the craft becomes a ball of light
It would probably be terrible if they did it now. IMO very few modern movies or TV shows are any good. There was a movie in the works about 10 years ago, but it never made it past pre-production. They released a few pics of the new Interceptors & Mobiles, and to be fair, they looked fantastic. Really close to the originals.
I always fear reboots. The Avengers (Steed and Mrs. Peel) was dire, the Man From UNCLE was meh, and the least said about the Prisoner, the better. On the other hand, Battlestar Galactica was superb, and the Mission Impossible films were highly successful. Imagine a modern SHADO, the Paul Foster or Straker position now filled by a character played by Benedict Cumberbatch and the successor to General Henderson, played by Wanda Ventham
UFO - Still the greatest TV series of all time! ..if only Space 1999 had been UFO 2.0 like it was originally planned. I'll never forgive the yanks for destroying what would have been a new series of UFO.
Utter travesty that it didn't get more episodes....Lew Grade and his fawning to the U.S. market had already terminated Gerry's best show, Thunderbirds, and then UFO gets the same treatment. Shambolic and utterly sad.
Don't blame Lew. He gave us the 50-minute Thunderbirds episodes. Gerry planned on the standard 25 minute length because it was believed incorrectly that children did not have the attention span to follow the longer stories. Lew was also probably the only man with the courage to commission Patrick McGoohan's off the wall proposal for a drama series called the Prisoner. Sadly, the reality of TV is that such shows are incredibly expensive to make, and the limited audience in the UK made it essential to sell shows to America, where 'taste', if you can call it that was very different.
The aliens sacrificed a hell of a lot of pilots, with perfectly usable body parts, while trying to kidnap humans for... body parts. That never made sense to me. Were most of the ufo's drones or remote controlled?
Binge watched this last year. Good sci fi IMHO. Think the notion was the true aliens were either non corporeal, or utterly unable to exist in earth's atmosphere, even the UFOs degraded after a few hours. Their signature technology was manipulation of humans rather than come here themselves, for which they'd need spare parts. Fascinating stuff. Ripe for a reboot.
That question occurred to me, and I think many humans could be 'harvested', so the loss of one pilot was set against a successful return cargo of multiple humans. Don't forget that they were harvesting organs almost unopposed until the formation of SHADO. It seems, though, that either the concept was retconned, or the motives of the aliens changed, once SHADO started to thwart the harvests, they tried to end SHADO
@neilgodwin6531 I don't recall the alien "war aim". There was an episode where the guy was taken over and said they were in trouble, but earth refused to help. Possibly no one recognised the signal? I think they were laying threads of the plot, sadly the series ended before they were drawn together.
I think the title craft in UFO is an amazing design! Very sleek and sinister!

I always have loved the UFO saucer craft .
I was very disappointed as a child that I couldn't buy a toy or model of one. I think Dinky missed a trick there.
What an excellent series!
That was the longest and bestest commercial I've ever seen!😊

A special helmet with a builtin receiver, I have actually seen one in real life at a police open day event
I think they are Triumphs
Always loved the scary sounds at the end of the episodes. As a boy it gave me the creeps lol
Excellent series!!
Superb stories characters and acting!

I know we got Space 1999, but a second series of UFO would have been amazing.
@neilgodwin6531 totally agree 👍
I have the complete collection of UFO, my favourite programme of my youth, and the best theme music of all time.
Great show wish they made more of UFO ❤
Love that theme music!!
defo needs a reboot, with modern effects
Absolutely love this series.
Gerry Anderson shows unexplainably hit different for some reason in the best way
You tricked me into watching an ad! That's diabolical.

UFOs crashing in remote Areas makes some Sense, since those cover far more of Earths Surface.
The hot blonde seen in the car with Ed Bishop was Wanda Ventham.. Benedict Cumberbatch, s mother
Wow, didn't know that. And stunningly-beautiful Gabriel Drake is the sister of the late singer/songriter Nick Drake.
I❤ Wanda 🌹 always did👍

I always found the design to be perfect.
So this video is an ad for a model of it.
Hmm, no price so is it scary to ask. 😱?
£125.
@@AHoundOnAHonda OMG and Ouch at the same time. 😂
@@Gary-Seven-and-Isis-in-1968
It was £99.99 on pre-order, but is apparently a 'life-size' exact replica. Of the original model, not a UFO.
Is were beautifull and good 5:31 séries of TV! Happ good Jon and good film
Was it coincidance that Gerry Andersons UFO looks very similar to those seen over Japan in 1970?
Ive always found this intriguing.
No, Derek Meddings and his crew created a craft based on real UFO reports

We technically got 'UFO 2' with 'Space:1999'.
Yes the horror of the retro cars in the future

Let me know when a 1/12 scale radio controlled model of the SHADO Mobile is available.
They're available in the US... currently flying all over New Jersey.
Most of the storylines seemed to be based on real life events, such as the abduction and mutilations, depicted in 'the sound of silence' etc.
So does the model explode twenty four hours after you take it out of the box?
Not if you keep it underwater
I haven't seen this show but I've wanted to.
It’s really really really real.
Should be silver metallic looking not grey plastic Otherwise I’d grab one.
