      right? how many people have 1440p monitors? I think that people who bought good 1080p ones won't flock to buy 1440p ones to replace what they have.

    Useless

    • @keplaredler6024
      @keplaredler6024 8 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      Well, games haven't really come with DX 12 and Vulkan yet. Doom has Vulkan but the 480 would instantly win that. And 1440p is pretty useless unless it's 4k. 1080p is already better than 900p. So why use 1440p and sacrifice graphics if all you're going to get is higher pixels?

    • @drees84
      @drees84 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +??? yes the rx480 would win the doom on vulkan benchmark. That's because amd's current architecture is better with dx12 and vulkan (whether it's async or because all consoles run amd hardware, or something else I don't know, but the benchmarks show it). It's NOT bias to include it, it IS bias not to -as was done in this 'review'. dx12 and vulkan are the future, and the first game to come out with vulkan shows a huge increase in performance for the rx480. Hitman on dx12 is also better on amd. What's worse, the 1060 also scores higher on doom with vulkan (true only a few fps, but it's higher nonetheless) making it even stranger not to include it.

      Sander Egberts good thing I was able to get the 960 4gb on sale in my place before it ran out of stock. Nvidia is jacking up prices... as much as I hate to say it, consumers need amd or a new god damn competitior to balance the prices. This is ridiculous, taxes are not yet included! I bet the 1060 would be priced $350 here which is crap

    • @cougarb

      +Sander Egberts What? PCs are cheaper than ever these days (not in Canada, cuz of our shit dollar, but in the us) The RX 480 can be picked up for like $270 and has performance of a $320 dollar card. Lol when the macintosh came out it was like $4000 shit

    • @ImranPangilinan
      @ImranPangilinan 8 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Cougarbites we are talking about Nvidia here. The 1060 is now a high end card... no longer a midrange card like its predecessors. On paper it's most of the time AMD > nVidia. BUT (and that's a BIG BUT) the way nVidia utilizes what it has is Much more efficient than what AMD does. It's similar to the iOS vs Android debate. Android flagships now ship with 3-4GB of RAM, and iPhones have 1-2GB, and yet, they perform very similarly if not even faster on the iOS side which seems worse on paper. It's almost exactly the same for AMD vs nVidia

    • @nO_d3N1AL

      I think they are competing with each other. I don't think nVidia will release a lower card soon that would "compete" with the rx480... The 1060 is their answer to the rx480. All reviewers said it, the 1060 has to beat the rx480 without being to close to the 1070.
      If nVidia would release another card, I don't expect it to beat the 480 performance wise.

    • @dshadow01
      @dshadow01 8 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      that's what nvidia damage control wants you to believe. Nvidia's answer to the rx480 was this card but they failed miserably. Paying around 100$ more (depending on your region) for circa 7% performance is extremely dumb. Not to mention amd cards are more future proof (just look at kepler cards, the 780ti is raped by de r7 370 in doom vulkan)

    • @Ritsukashy
      @Ritsukashy 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      idk about ripped to shreds but all ive seen is that it matches the 1060 or gets like 3 fps more in dx12/ vulcan except on hitman idk whats going on with that game at all for there to be that much of a difference. but the 1060 has 6gb ram vs the 480 standard 4gb unless you pay more. also it runs cooler and produces less noise. also not many games using vuncan/ dx 12 and alot of titles coming out still arnt using it and prob wont be for another year imo not saying its a killer tho in reality this is one hundred percent personal choice here since once they do come out with dx12 and vulcan games 480 will match it and it cost less and can crossfire while 1060 cannot sli at all

      Just as AMD got blocked in CPU market even tho AMD contributed a lot to the development of CPUs, took the lead from Intel who played dirty and paid hefty money to the companies that buy AMD products to stop buying. Which destroyed the AMD's income with making their investment of development useless. If They wouldn't kick that lazy ass of Intel, Intel would keep playing its' own monopoly selling us expensive but useless CPUs. End of competition is never good for us, some people don't understand that and keep being fanboys.

      because the Nvidia cards are designed overall better? What do you think Nvidia does with its money? they invest heavily into R&D, your nvidia card is always going to run less hot, use less power, and run more efficiently, the RX 480 can look as awesome as it wants on paper, but in the end its still just another card where they boost the core count, and boost the frequencies to the point where the car is almost on fire constantly, and made no actual changes, where nvidia spent money and time to at least make a change, and to push tech forward.

    • @gametooner

      +Mike Brown 50$? for an overall better designed card, cooler running, less power using and so on? If someone was looking for longevity Nvidia is the obvious choice. If all that's important to you is initial $/FPS go right ahead buy, but Nvidias better power delivery and cooling will easily push this card well past the rx480 when over clocking comes into play.

    • @RiskOfBaer
      @RiskOfBaer 8 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      Yes, because using the newest and least common technologies as a benchmark is a good idea for the review. Majority of the games don't run, on dx12, nor benefit from it, also not so many games utilize Vulkan API yet. So what's the point of making a review focused on that? You both have no idea what you're talking about. Of course, it would've been nice to have all of them included side by side, but not as a primary benchmark for comparison. It's as dumb as judging monitors by their ability to support 5k resolution. That day is far, far away. For the time being, keep your AMD bias to yourselves.

      These AMD fanboys are crying like crazy. GTX 970 is the real price to performance card. I got my gtx 970 ftw+ for $120 second hand (Negotiable) and overclocked it and it performs better than a stock gtx 980. There is no point buying gtx 1060 unless you can get a very good deal , it overclocks good. I'd say gtx 1060 or a cheap 970 , also rx 480 for 1080p , 980 ti for 1440p (you find one for 400 bucks and it is totally worth it because it overclocks like a champ) and overclocked 980 ti for 4K , but if you want to get best single card in the market for a little bit over $600 and don't plan to overclock for 4k gaming as well . get a gtx 1080.

      +Spencerwalker21 they won't and can't because there pascal architecture is already set in stone. So you will have to wait for their next generation to even possibly have half the shit AMD has had on the GPU 's fit years now which is why with the implementation of vulkan and directx 12 is like a free generation upgrade for every AMD GPU owner currently. The new api are based off mantle which is AMD tech, and you better believe that open gl and directx 11 is a thing of the past since both new API 's make it easier to port from console which by the way consoles are full AMD tech which means if developers want their games to run better they will start using either vulkan solely on ps4 or directx 12 on Xbox. And both of those API 's run better on AMD. Look if you want nvidia I can't stop you, all I can do is try to tell you that if you are wanting to make a machine now that is future proofed for the next 2 to 3 years your better option is AMD since as soon as everyone starts adopting the new API and they will! It will work best on AMD at least till the next generation GPU comes from nvidia which will be the 1100 series and even then we can't be sure.

    The fact that AMD drivers get better over time and Nvidia driverst just stagnate and cards lose support after each generation coming out, makes AMD the only logical choice because by the end of the year the Rx 480 will perform better in games and will still be cheaper (if the demand doesnt skyrocket)

    The 1060 is an interesting card, the first release sent to reviewers is basically a 1080/1070 with some of the cores fused off. This is because the chip that was supposed to be the 1060 isn't ready yet and they needed some answer to the RX480. I imagine we'll get a 1065 that has a different chip and completely different performance once they get the proper chip done. As it stands, the 1060's probably making the 1070/1080 supply problems worse.

    What I don't understand about AMD fanboys is that they are always on about "wait until this!" or "dx12 and async!" and all this shit. I understand where they're coming from but it seems like they have always been this way. I'm not trying to sound like a Nvidia fanboy but right now if you want a faster card, then you should buy the 1060. All of this "wait for this thing to come out!" and "don't get this card cause faster ones will come out later!" is annoying because everyone already fucking knows that better things will come out later. I've seen so many people ask for help with their computer builds in reddit posts and comment sections and I always see AMD fanboys saying shit like "this card is ok now but AMD vega is coming soon so you should wait a few months, it's not worth it". If you want to build a system right now with a $250-$300 gpu budget then the 1060 is the better option. All of you AMD fans can say "well this is cheaper" and "dx12!" all you want but it doesn't excuse the fact that the 1060 performs better in ~80-90% of benchmarks.

      you actually don't have to wait
      there are already many dx12 titles that came out this year alone. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_games_with_DirectX_12_support
      and that more dx12's are actually coming in pretty major this year for pc (alot of these titles look to actually be pretty major themselves at that)
      essentially what i'm saying is its coming sooner than you think

    • @melon_teddy
      @melon_teddy 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      also you don't consider the $ / performance
      the 1060 may beat it majorily in dx11 BUT in no way does it justify its price (which luke already demonstrated in the video) because likely.. the 1060 is going to be in high demand (up to $50 or more / especially the founders edition) for 7-10 fps more..
      and considering that the gtx 1060 has less vram to max out games with and has 0 sli support
      Simply put, its the rx480 that holds better value in the end.

      In highly optimized dx12 games the RX480 _may_ come out ahead. We have one example of a highly optimized game (DOOM) where the RX480 does markedly better with Vulkan. Vulkan-supporting games may not be very common though, compared to DX12 games. My impression is that the RX480 will close the gap in DX12 games, or even come out ahead sometimes, if the developer uses the DX12 API (near-)optimally.

It would make sense that Nvidia would want to use them to maintain their image as the dominant player, even though AMD has had superior GPU technology for the past 4 years. Now that hardware is being utilized to its full capacity, and the AMD cards are crushing the Nvidia competition. Dual 480s are beating even the 3-year flagship, the R9 295X2. That is an obscene amount of performance for $400.

Where is the problem releasing a 490 with vega 10/11 one that beats a 1070 and one that beats the 1080. The chip that beats the 1070 only has to be 10%/15% faster than the Fury X to beat the 1070 and the other only has to be 25%/30% faster to beat a 1080. This should totally be do able.

      Chiriac Puiu Again it's a moot point because it is fixed.
      But yes it *did*, and spiked more near 155W, again notice I said *spiked* and was 81W average, I was going off memory so I now have the exact numbers as why the change.
      media.bestofmicro.com/ext/aHR0cDovL21lZGlhLmJlc3RvZm1pY3JvLmNvbS9BL0kvNTkxMzU0L29yaWdpbmFsLzEzLUdhbWluZy0xMi1Wb2x0cy1QRUcucG5n/r_600x450.png
      This however was in a niche scenario with Metro Last Light at 4k, almost certainly it was because the VRAM was being filled to capacity on the 8GB model which AMD knew no one in real life would run the card at 4k for an extended period of time so it probably wasn't tested as rigorously.
      It was probably heavily tested in 4k in crossfire however which probably made them test 4k even less on a single card basis. But the GPU will not be used at full tilt under Crossfire because the cards are like 20%~ of the time waiting on the PCIe bus to relay communications between the two cards.

    If you are trying to decide on which of these two cards to get then it's pretty simple, if you want to play a lot of VR get the GTX1060, otherwise you should be fine with the RX480. The 1060 has support for SMP which will allow it to just destroy the RX480 in VR games that utilize it (though keep in mind most VR games don't utilize it yet), but outside of VR the RX480 offers better value.

    Actually pretty decent card for once. I do want to see how AIB RX 480s do vs AIB GTX 1060s, though.
    Seems that low level API + longevity (and I guess slightly lower price but that will vary) goes to the RX 480, whilst DX11 and overall performance (for now, we know AMD cards age better) goes to the 1060.
    Exciting honestly. Now we gotta wait for GTX 1050 vs RX 470.

      rx480 is better overclocker per Mhz, 1300Mhz rx480 is same as 1500Mhz Gtx1060 and 1400Mhz is same as 2000Mhz GTX1060
      if some AIBs can make stable 1400Mhz cards they will be superb, tho in some games like GTA6 it will flat out loose to anything nvidia.

    480 killer? Not likely. The 1060 is 6-7% faster and costs what, $60 more? The 480 is skill king of the budget/value card, which is what it was made for. Nvidia should stick to the top 5% where they belong.

    • @nikolamilosevic9308
