      I would also enjoy a series on the London system by Stjepan. However there is some useful information already out there, for example a few long videos by GingerGM, including one on the Jobava London.

    Watching your videos kinda reminds me of Agadmator's early days as a TH-camr.
    I wish you the very best to achieve great success as a TH-camr or a professional chess player or BOTH - whatever you are going for 😊
    Your content shows effort, talent and heart so I am sure you'll be achieving what you want soon. 👌

    I saw this var in the database, yes - much simpler for White, and after b4 - attacking queen, engine say 0.5+ for White, but practically - Black is shish kabob. way to go mr. Tomic, another great video.

    I love playing this it's so fun. And it's hilarious how the refutation from white 3:14 is the most fun line. Usually you're not happy to see opponent play the counter, but not in this opening. The tactics get crazy.
    For anyone learning it as white or black in 2024 :
    1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Nf6 3. d4 Bg4 4. f3 Bf5 5.c4 (turn 5 and white still moving pawns, 0 pieces developed, king naked in the middle and he had to. As black you need to trust that the d5 pawn is yours no matter what, you don't have to take it right away and lose initiative)

  • @thomasmoehlecke2823

    Hi Stjepan, I’m a big fan of your videos and I think you really have a extraordinary didactical skill superior to many other TH-camrs. Please also cover up the Latvian Gambit. We do have a higher ranked player in our chess club playing always this gambit and it causes me a lot of headache.

      @@HangingPawnsHI. Have a tougher game when they push to e5 Then you have to play the French advance variation, unless you know of a better way to handle it. Love Icelandic gambit. Have more success with it than any other defense to e4. Thanks for suggestions on e5 push. Is pushing to f3 sound leaving f2 weak? Thanks

    I want a backup to the Caro Kann but I'm not sure if I should play this,the petrof or one of the simpler variations of the Sicilian

    • @alessandrofinocchi5608
      @alessandrofinocchi5608 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Depending on what do you pretend from your back up. If you want something more unbalanced and open but still positional, a Sicilian Kan or Taimanov could be a good choice. If you want something not very risky in the opening to complement Caro, maybe the Petroff is your choice

  • @JustanamebroDK
    @JustanamebroDK ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I was looking for a how to win with black in the modern Scandi, but this was quite biased towards white top theory moves - i wanted to see the traps and dangerous ideas black has, especially in the Icelandic
    In general i feel you rarely cover bad moves and how to punish them, but you've decided one side is better (at very high level of play) and only focus on refutation for that side

  • @MM-tt3np

    Sneaky bishop moves and later bring out the queen (after Nd7) will keep the pawn + get you one more pawn later ;)
    7 pawns against 5 and a +0.3 according to Stockfish 17 :P

  • @sammojk
    @sammojk 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One thing I've noticed at 1500 chesscom blitz level. For the Panov Transfer, most people take the pawn (not covered here)! Which is bad for white.

  • @franciscobeaulieu1883
    @franciscobeaulieu1883 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Amazing video. Where do you get all your theory? I brought the Modern Chess Opening book 15ed which is considered the chess bible, but in the book, they don't really have that much theory of the Scandinavian. Do you have any recommendations, please?

  • @hritwikranjan2198
    @hritwikranjan2198 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I found a better option against Bb5+ is to play Nd2. Your plan is to play a6 and b5 then Nb5 followed by Bb7. That pawn gets a lot of pressure and c5 is always there to destabilize White's centre

  • @David-hq8ir
    @David-hq8ir 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Great video as usual!
    Sometimes you speak of computer evaluation as not being objective (7:25), do you mean the engine is just wrong? Why would a human assessment of the position be more objective?

    • @HangingPawns
      @HangingPawns  5 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Because the engine doesn't have feelings. It has the ability to compute and come to conclusions after brute force calculation. It doesn't take into account that some positions are harder for one player. For example; the engine says that it's equal but one side is attacking and has numerous options, and the other is only equal if finds the only move every time. That is not equal in my opinion.

    5.28 I think white should not allow the queen isolated pawn because white’s good bishop has ben traded. And it is generally hard to create an attack when your good bishop out side of the board.

  • @yorickstrangefield2976

    I'm surprised there is no mention of the well-known *Portuguese Variation* (sometimes called the Portuguese Gambit): *1.e4 d5 2.ed Nf6 3.d4 Bg4!?* which is what I play 100% of the time. If White tries to hang onto the pawn with *4.f3* some very sharp gambit variations can occur, and most of the time White will not be booked up.

    The point of the Icelandic gambit is traps. You trot it out in bullet or maybe blitz as a surprise. Of course it's not entirely sound, and it's definitely not the optimal way for black to play the modern scandi, but that isn't really the point.
