    Here's a great tool for learning openings: chessbook.com/hanging-pawns
    Chessbook allows you to import and practice your repertoire. It focuses on moves people actually play as well as your mistakes. Connect it to your lichess or chess com accounts to correct the biggest gaps in your repertoire!

    One suggestion. If an educational video about an opening is primarily intended for a player with black pieces, it is more pleasant and clearer to have the chessboard rotated so that the black pieces are at the bottom. Just as the player who will use the opening perceives them.

    Back in Dec 1974, I "temporarily" began to play the Scandinavian just until I could make a few adjustments to my play in the Taimanov Sicilian. Over 45 years later, I'm still pushing that d pawn. But great intro. I already know just about everything to know about the Scandinavian, but "it's what you learn after you know everything that counts."

    At first I hated this opening, but I gave it a try and now is my only response to 1.e4. Such a fantastic and flexible opening, is great for begginers because the ideas behind it are very easy to grasp and the pawn structure is very similar to the Caro, the Slav and the QGA so if you play it, you can easily start to play that other openings and built a great repertoire based on ideas and plans for that specific pawn structure.

    10:00 I'm a 925 rating scandinavian player, exactly for the reasons you mentioned at the beginning. It shuts down any 1.e4 opening, so I need only one response. I did stumbled across that 3.Nf3 move and it is indeed quite an annoying variation. I'm still studying a response to that, because I couldn't improvise a good one. But that only appeared in an weekly tournament in my chess club, against a 2000 player.
    Usually, against people around my rating, they don't know what to do right of the bet. And the ones that do, don't know as well as I do. When I can setup the typical pawn structure, it often leads to a very solid position where whites get frustrated and launches unsuccessful attacks, often sacrificing a bishop against a well defended castle. I'm not gonna lie, those are tense games where I'm trying to brace the storm, but they usually go my way :)
    I play the 3.Qd8 variation.

And all my losses are justifyed by the explanation that black has the advantage if white doesn´t atack fast; i aways tryed to play a slow game, reaching the endgame with terrible pawn structure and having nothing to do. • @DerTeke
    @DerTeke 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you very much for the video. However, I have a question. I was practicing the Scandinavian as a solid black opening for the past few weeks. You were saying that for white, the Scandinavian is unavoidable. But what about the turn D4 after E4. If I´m not mistaken, this leads to a quasi-french opening. I generally move my white bishop to C4, the opponent defends his pawn with E5 and I "block the passage" with D3. After that, we are basically in a French-Opening-Situation. I´m a beginner learning the Scandinavian for the very reasons you were giving in your video and I hope that I didnt make a mistake here.

    where do you find/figure out the main ideas of openings? I'm new to opening studies, i usually only practice tactics and feel like my strategical analysis is very lacking.

    for people who are new, i really recommend you to learn fundamentals/principles of chess and INTERNALIZE it before diving to ANY of the openings. it allows you to evaluate positions and think of why a certain move is played easier and you will understand the game better.

    Why is ...c6 played so early in the opening? Can it be postponed? I know the Queen can hide on c7 or even further back. But why so early this move?

    Can you not transpose a Scandinavian player out of their prep into Blackmar-Diemer with 1. e4 d5 2. d4 - or am I wrong?

    What happens if after 1. e4 d5 2. e5! This will transpose into something else and we would be out of the Scandinavian. Correct? Also, after 2. e5 what is the strongest way for black to continue? ... And which system would this transpose to? Thx

    I wonder how 2. e5 would play out; I discovered it when one of my friends tried it out against me.
